At 40, I decided to pick up the tuba that I’d kept since playing in college. I wanted to get off to a solid start. I found in Bryan a solid teacher with a wealth of all sorts of musical knowledge. I implemented the lessons into practice and felt myself grow stronger in some areas than I had ever experienced in my first 10 years of practice and learning. I was also able to see a marked improvement in my bass guitar skills by applying many of the same concepts to the playing of that instrument. These lessons have been a great investment for my musicianship.

Bryan has very unique lesson plans and can channel his musical thoughts very clearly. He was very understanding and reflective of my needs. He then presented me with a series of mental models and exercises which i am certain will make me not just a better pianist but a better musician and also help me appreciate music better.

I would highly highly recommend Bryan and i will certainly continue the musicial journey with him.

French Horn:
A brass instrument made of tubing wrapped into a coil with a flared bell. The double horn in F/Bb is the horn most often used by players in professional orchestras and bands. Pitch is controlled through the combination of the following factors: speed of propulsion of air through the instrument, diameter and tension of lip aperture in the mouthpiece. The pitch of any note can easily be raised or lowered by adjusting the hand position in the bell. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

I have been studying horn for over ten years, and learning to play music has truly changed my life by giving me a powerful voice for creative expression as well as by instilling a strong work ethic and the drive to succeed. I am eager to give back some of what music has given to me by passing on my knowledge to others! I received my Bachelor's degree in Horn Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I studied with Kevin Rivard (Principal horn, San Francisco Opera) and Robert Ward (Principal horn, San Francisco Symphony). Lessons with me will be tailored to the individual student's level and goals. Getting my students excited about music and making lessons fun is very important me, as well as instilling a ...
