With all music majors, we have to be prolific in our theory. I teach a basis of theory to all students. I like to work on theory and ear training at the same time as they both go hand in hand.

About Beckie
Hi!
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, clarinet, and voice.

I recently graduated from UCLA with my masters in music on French horn. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with two degrees in music- music performance on French horn and music education.

My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 15 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.

I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and California Philharmonic.

I currently am a freelance musician. I perform with different orche
stras and groups all around the Los Angeles area. I am also apart of a horn ensemble called the Thursday Horn Club. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!

I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to go at the pace of the student. I am very patient but I expect the student to practice during the week. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.

For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.

I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)

I also have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

I’ve observed Beckie teaching French Horn and Trumpet. She is extremely capable and, especially with her younger students, very nurturing and encouraging. She is very knowledgeable and clearly explains the techniques and principles she is teaching. She is also very patient.

I had next to no experience on the horn, and I had learned and improved greatly from the first lesson. From my experience, should you need to jump into horn from the bottom, Beckie is the ideal teacher because of her attention to detail and positive attitude that makes progress exponential.

I really enjoy working on music theory with my students.

About Carrie
*****I don't have a current background check through take lessons but have an active ongoing background check through another employer ******

I've been teaching and performing professionally for over 10 years. I have my BA in music and business. I have had some amazing experiences along the way. I've worked with world renowned vocal coaches, sang at Carnegie Hall, and played on various cds to raise money/awareness for charity projects. I'm grateful for all of this, but I love working with students on their music most of all. It delights me to see a student have an "aha" moment where they realize that they have what it takes to be great. I'd love to work with you, but if I don't I hope you reach your goals and have fun doing it ! ~ Carrie Jo ~

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid back teacher but you will definitely learn
a lot. I just believe if it starts to not be fun, what's the point? Music isn't just about perfect theory and note placement it's about enjoyment. That's why I tailor make every lesson specifically based on my student's goals. I have students that like a more traditional approach so I use standard method books with them. I also have students that want to learn how to play by ear so we use a less traditional method and I teach them chord structures and how to move around easily on their instrument. My favorite thing to teach is vocal lessons but I love teaching piano and guitar also.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught on an upright piano or acoustic/electric guitar. Student should bring own guitar. No pets. Waiting room out front for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I've performed at Carnegie Hall and I've had the opportunity to work with world renowned vocal coaches. I offer that as well as techniques that I've developed to help you reach your goals quickly and with great skill !

My 10 year old son loves playing little riffs on the piano but really didn't want lessons for fear it would be too much like school. Peter has been awesome about tailoring the lessons so that my son can choose the Music he likes and move forward from his place of interest. Peter is a skilled and gifted pianist, and my son is totally inspired to keep playing and put in the work to improve.

I have been working with Peter for a little over a year and although I'm moving away, I will be continuing my sessions with him over video. Over the past year, I've had the most incredible mentoring experience with Peter and would highly recommend him to students of all ages. I used to play piano as a kid and quit when I was in middle school, and Peter has helped me regain, maintain and build on my skills. He takes measures to keep me accountable in my practice and also nurtures and encourages me creatively -- his experience as a composer comes in handy and we have dope jam sessions. In addition to his musical teaching practice, Peter is also training in somatic and trauma healing modalities that infuse his work with students with care and attunement. I know some parents who work with him keep him around their kids as a life coach and buddy as well as a music teacher. He's the best and I will miss seeing him every week in person!

I specialize in contemporary music theory and also have an intermediate knowledge of classical theory. Students will learn the basics such as roman numerals for chords, all the way to advanced concepts such as chord scales, modulation and chord substitution. Unless otherwise requested, all lessons will be taught using music notation.

Lessons can be in Rock, Jazz, or Pop styles, and on acoustic or electric guitar. Music theory is included to the extent that the student and/or parents are interested. Lessons can be at my h
ouse or yours.
Thanks!

Hello Friends!
I have taken music theory classes throughout my undergrad and graduate school. I have found that music theory is the roots and foundation of most music from the western hemisphere. I am passionate about understanding the way that music functions and am willing to share all of my knowledge to my students! I believe that music theory can be learned in a fun and engaging way!

About Azeem
*See further below for lesson details!*
Azeem the Flutist: I am a Master's student in Flute Performance at the University of Northern Iowa. I have been playing the flute for 13 years and teaching for 7. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Folk, Jazz, Blues, Beatbox, Hip-Hop, and other styles of flute. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer, I was the Grand Prize Winner of Santa Barbara Performing Arts Scholarship Competition in 2013 and won 3rd prize at the University of Northern Iowa Concerto Competition in 2016. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in United Kingdom and Italy. As a performer of other styles I h
ave played in a couple bands (“Dannsair" Irish Folk Band and “Azeem X Underbelly”) and supported these acts on tours.

Azeem the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the flute and production/composition (Logic Pro X and Sibelius). I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students enjoy learning and making beautiful music. I have a high level of knowledge and skills that I am willing to use to teach students from the most beginner to the most advanced on the flute.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson plans are based around your skill set. I expect my students to practice, but I make sure they're always having fun and enjoying playing. My goal is to get my students playing music as fast as possible so they can see results immediately and get excited!

Note: I am trained and specialized in teaching flute. Although I have basic skills in Production and Composition, my main speciality is Flute Performance. I always like begin lessons by addressing the foundation of a flutist’s musicianship, tone, and technique. The method I use is proven to give students of all ages the best possible start to music and maximize their potential. If you are looking to develop a great foundation of musicianship, style, and technique on the flute then you will enjoy lessons!

It was fun time learning music, especially the flute. I wasn't familiar with the music at all like I was an illiterate in music. Many Thanks for Mr. Azeem for being patient with me and walk me through every basic knowledge in music deliberately. In the end, I am happy to have a new skill in my life which is playing flute. I wish, I have more time to practice more flute and playing professionally. Also, Mr. Azeem is a decent and a respected person in all kinds, teaching, interpersonal conversations, and understanding the difficulty of playing flute for the beginners.

My approach to musical theory is to make it logical and applicable to guitar or banjo. Specifically, I focus on theory related to the style that you're interested in. The way to truly unlock any instrument is to understand that instrument completely, in which theory is a great tool.

About Timothy
Tim has made a career as a professional musician since receiving his M.A. in Appalachian Music: Roots & Influences from Appalachian State University in the spring of 2014. With experience as a Guitar Center instructor since 2015, an AmeriCorps member with the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, and an Instructor of Record at Appalachian State, Tim is able to pair his deep knowledge of diverse musical styles, techniques, and theory with his adeptness at teaching. This enables students to quickly increase their skill and gain a deep appreciation for the music they are learning. His teaching approach centers on aural training, and encourages a student-driven curriculum.

Professionally, Tim is a Larrivee Guitars sponsored artist, and has performed all across the United States with the acoustic roots band, Redleg Husky. In 2016, the group
performed 223 shows alone.
