My first priority is to inspire and motive. Find out the students wants and needs, then tackle them head on. As we do this proper technique is a must, it is the difference between a good guitarist and a great guitarist. Music theory and understand the language of music. The better we know the language the better we can speak it. Learn songs and music is a must ...it is the reason why we play.

This was an excellent first lesson. Frankie was patient, engaged, knowledgable, and very helpful. He was able to assess my skill level after talking a bit and had a clear plan to help me begin to learn to play the banjo and understand why I am playing what I'm playing. I'm looking forward to practicing and seeing where this all goes.

Solid knowledge from 18 years of playing guitar and I Graduated From Berklee College Of music as one of the first African Scholars.

About Albino
Albino was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.

Drawn to the sounds of neighborhood street musicians in Maputo, Albino began to play in a number of local bands. As with his home-made guitar, Albino wanted to combine styles and incorporate diverse elements in his music. For his talents to grow, he knew he needed experience new places, cultures, and sounds.

While studying music education and Performance at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he heard about the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA, where he could expand his musical horizons
. Soon after, he was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts.

At Berklee, he was exposed to a variety of influences, but wanted to go deeper into the roots of jazz and expand his knowledge of music. He auditioned and was selected to participate in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which is directed by Danilo Perez and the residency teachers, including Joe Lovano John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The Institute emphasizes an artist's original vision in jazz, and has helped Albino find his own unique voice in the art form.

Albino still felt the absence of his own Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the United States of America today, he began to bridge that gap.

Today, Albino's music succeeds in combining many disparate parts into an organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-Jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.

Albino's original composition “Mozambique Dance” was recorded by Jazz Revelation Records, a student-run record label at the Berklee College of Music, for the 8th annual album released in 2011. He also recorded “Awusiwana,” his own composition, for the Berklee 2012 summer album. His debut album, also called Mozambique Dance, is to be released in Spring 2013.

Albino is an active musician, and has performed in several countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Italy, the U.S., and Mexico. He has also produced and recorded various projects in Mozambique and in the United States. In 2012, he will graduate from Berklee College with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and Performance, and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

Patient, Supportive, and Encouraging.

It was what I was looking for when looking for a coach. Although, I wasn't trying to be the next American Idol, I did want to not butcher anymore of the songs I love to sing. I had taken singing lessons in the past and was hesitant with this experience, the issue was my instructors wanted me to learn what they wanted to teach and honestly didn't make for the best experience.

Albino made this experience different, our first few lessons were focused on learning some basics skills and drills. We explored what songs might be suitable to start off with given my range and where I was and started to practice and practice and practice, until i felt comfortable. The more comfortable I became and the better I became with my drills, the more options we explored, the more of the songs I wanted to really sing started to come into conversation and I felt as though I was and continue to make progress.

Albino has never made this about himself. He has never pushed his own style on me and I can really appreciate that. He genuinely enjoys helping you achieve something you never thought you could or were nervous of doing. He pushes you just enough that you feel challenged and want to continue doing it.

I've come so far in such a short period of time and I have him to thank. This is the man you want to be coached by if you're looking to be pushed in the right direction without feeling like there is only one way to get to where you want to be.

Some press:

Phil's compositions showcase a variety of ideas and are quite effective at setting up the soloists to explore the various permutations suggested by his tunes. His compositional originality is matched by his incisive playing which ranges from "inside" lyricism to hard edged, riff based, screaming rock and satisfying surreal textures aided by his intelligent use of electronics."
- David Kane, Cadence Music

"With demonstrative technique, Phil is cognizant of the tradition but thinks outside of the box."

Although I'm not technically a student of Phil's, I learn a lot from him every time I play and teach with him. We perform regularly at Berklee, where I'm a professor, and we give concerts and masterclasses all over the Northeast together (most recent was at Cornell). Phil's a warmhearted, patient, brilliant teacher and an outstanding and creative musician, seamlessly putting together everything he knows--jazz, shredding, classical--there's no boundaries for him! He's great at explaining things, and he never belittles a question, no matter how dumb you might have thought it was. Phil's a great friend and a great teacher. -John Funkhouser, Berklee College of Music, Boston

In addition to being the most talented guitarist and musician I have ever had the opportunity to play with, Phil is an astoundingly good teacher. I've played guitar for 8 years and taken private lessons the entire time. Phil has been my teacher for the past 2 years and in that time I have progressed as a musician more than I could have ever imagined. Phil has been the biggest factor in my decision to major in music, due to his unrivaled musical talent, his kind, unassuming, (and funny) demeanor and his seemingly limitless knowledge of the fretboard. He is well versed in so many genres of music, and has such an effortless grasp on improvisation. Any guitarist, from immediate beginners to seasoned professionals, can learn so much from Phil. I've had 5 lessons with Alex and have already seen incredible improvement. Alex's methodology is to teach lessons but taking a song you really would like to learn, and walking you through the steps necessary to be playing it seamlessly and quickly. He throws in musical theory and other important elements of learning the instrument in there as well. I love that he always emails me a rundown of our lesson via email after the lesson so I can be reminded of things when practicing. He is extremely accommodating with his schedule, which I also really appreciate. Overall, it's been an incredibly enjoyable experience and I recommend Alex to anyone trying to learn!

As a recent graduate from Berklee College of Music, I am well versed in many styles and can cater to many fields of musical study. My principle instrument is guitar and I have been playing for over 10 years. Between my college education and private lessons from my younger years, I am able to balance building skills and having fun learning the instrument. I believe the most important part of learning an instrument is the desire to practice. To achieve that I want to give my students lessons that they find fun and engaging while they expand their knowledge and understanding of the instrument. All ages and skill levels are welcome I look forward to helping my students advance their guitar playing in any way they want.

About Benjamin
I’m the lead guitarist, co-founder and bandleader of a 9-piece live hip-hop band in Boston. We have a monthly residency at a prestigious venue in Cambridge and will be going on tour this summer.

I graduated from Berklee College of Music in May of 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Music Performance and a minor in Music Production. I have been playing guitar for over 10 years and have learned a variety of styles through that time. These include rock, alternative, blues, jazz, fusion, R&B, hip-hop and funk.

One of the reasons I have pursued music so passionately is my first private teacher from whom I took lessons from the ages of 11-17. He was able to strike a balance between playing for fun and learning concepts on the guitar that I use to this day. My lessons are heavily influenced by this style, the most important thing you can do when le
arning an instrument is play every day and it’s important for that to be an appealing prospect. I want my students to enjoy what they learn in my lessons to the point where they are excited to practice and learn more. I will cater my lessons to each student, building a curriculum that is both fun and rewarding while being completely unique to that student. I welcome all ages and skill levels and am looking forward to helping my future students achieve their musical goals however I can.

I love teaching music. I first picked up my first guitar when I was 13, and haven't put it down since! I've had many different teachers over the years, but the ones that helped me grow the most, were the most patient, understanding, and encouraging. These are the values I bring to the forefront of my practice. I believe making music is something that everyone is able to do, when they find the process and conditions that work for them. It is my job to help you discover those things, and have fun in the process!

The guitar is a miraculous instrument because of its distinctiveness and versatility. It can sing lead, or backup the rhythm section. The direction you choose to pursue on the instrument is entirely unique to your experience and perspective. I've learned to create a wide range of sounds on the guitar from blues and rock to folk and soul, by playing with many different types of musicians over the years. I look forward to helping you learn the patterns and principals of music ...

About Scott
Hello fellow music lover!

My name is Scott, and I'm a musician with 15+ years of performance experience. I've studied performance at Berklee College of Music and performed in various configurations from funk/soul ensembles, to folk-rock bands and I write my own music that I perform as a solo artist.

I love teaching because it allows me to share my love of music and help people grow creatively in the direction of their choice. My feeling is, if you're choosing to invest in your artistic development, it should be an enjoyable experience based around what you're interested in learning about. To that end, all of my lessons are customized to the tastes and preferences of each student. We'll identify the goals you'd like to work towards, the music you want to play and take concrete steps in line with your creative vision.

My areas of e
xpertise include folk, blues, rock, soul, funk and pop music with particular interests in songwriting and improvisation. However, I'm versatile and open minded, so I'm willing to apply my skills to help you learn any style or sound that you are excited about!

Cheers,
Scott

Scott taught me introductory drums. Scott is warm, funny, and adaptable - he made learning fun and easy for me. I didn't feel dumb when I made mistakes, in no small part because Scott was very encouraging and pointed out the things I was doing well!

Another reason to take lessons with Scott - he's incredibly talented and plays multiple instruments. For example, I wanted to practice playing drums in a "band" setting, so Scott grabbed an electric bass and we started jamming.

10/10 would recommend, especially if you like laughing a lot while you learn a new skill!
