About Jacob
Hi there and thank you for considering me as your personal mentor in the world of digital artistry. A long time ago this world was just a hobby for me as well, and I hope to help you develop your skill set into something much more. I have over a decade of exposure to the rapidly-adapting professional photo and video world, with experience spanning from the smallest of freelance jobs all the way to mainstream feature film production and post. You can spend a lot of money in workshops or online training, but nothing comes close to the value of one-on-one personalized training. Because I enjoy teaching, I make an effort to keep rates affordable for the value of education given. If you're a photographer wanting to make your photos look like the pro photos you see online or a videographer looking to advance your work to the next level then wel
come aboard!

I look forward to meeting you.

I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with Jacob. My husband gave them to me as a birthday present and it was tons of fun. Jacob was able to answer all of my nitty gritty questions, as well as general tips on improving my skills. The lessons were enjoyable and I learned tons. I've gone from shooting in complete auto mode, because I didn't know how to do anything different, to shooting in aperture priority mode with much better results. My Christmas portrait of my kids will be much better this year thanks to these lessons. If you're looking for an affordable way to improve this is a great option because you'll learn a lot in just a few one-on-one sessions. Jacob was also very flexible in working with me on the schedule for the lessons. Thanks Jacob!

About Nick
My name is Nick and I am a freelance photographer located in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. I am new to the TakeLessons platform but have many years of experience as a photographer and photography teacher.

I specialize in travel, fine art and sports action photography. I am a life-long photographer having worked for a weekly newspaper, a motorcycle racing magazine, as a wedding and event photographer, and as a sports photographer. Over the last 15 years I have photographed local town events, Middle and High School sports, college football, fund-raising events for non-profit organizations, motorcycle racing, bicycle racing, running road races, Rock ‘n Roll bands, and high school senior portraits. I am now focusing most of my time traveling around the world and making and exhibiting my photographs of the local landscapes and people. Many o
f my images have been published in newspapers, on various websites, and exhibited in many art galleries.

I enjoy teaching students how to "make" photographs, drawing from the skills and techniques that I have learned from my real-world experiences as a photographer. My students learn how to use their camera as an expression of their artistic vision. They will learn all aspects of workflow including research and preparation, camera settings, composition, post-processing, printing, and framing. The goal is for each student to create images that they would be proud to exhibit or display on their wall at home.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer, please contact me for further information, to discuss your goals and objectives for making pictures, or to schedule a session. I offer both in person and remote lessons. Thank you.

Nick was awesome. Helped me choose the proper camera settings to optimize conditions and maximize the quality of the image. Educated me on controlling settings for various light conditions and depth of field. Very helpful and well worth the drive. I will definitely call on him again to fine tune what I've learned once I have a chance to practice.

Nick is patient, knowledgeable, and a great photography instructor. I've learned more from him in a couple of lessons than I've learned from a couple of books I've been using to try and learn on my own. Well-worth the time and cost for personal instruction. Highly recommend.

Eric was helpful. I had a quick intro in to what I needed to know for my project and what tools would be most useful.

It would have been ideal, if I had known ahead of time that he was not well-versed on all features of Adobe Creative Cloud, but at least I know what is possible with his expertise.

Otherwise Eric conveyed a professional competence and was easy to talk to.

About Stacy
Hi, my name is Stacy! For 4 years, I pursued a BS in Computer Science as part of my goal to become a video game developer. I received the Stephen P. Hepler Academic Award in Computer Science, the most prestigious award in the CS Department at Wayne State University. However, before I could finish my degree, I injured my hands from typing too much. During my recovery, I discovered that I really enjoyed helping others learn programming. My world has never been the same.

For the past 4 years, I've been mentoring students for the online code-learning organization Udacity. I've provided feedback on student projects, assisted students on the discussion forum, and worked with students 1-on-1 in video and text chats. Through these, I've helped thousands of students with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python for Udacity's Front-End Nanodegree and I
ntro to Programming Nanodegree programs. Because of my experience, I've also assisted in training and advising other mentors at Udacity.

How would tutoring work? First, I want to know what you want to do and what your goals are. From there, I'll make lesson plans that help you work toward those goals. If you're not quite sure about what direction you want to go, that's OK, too. I'll help you figure it out.

That said, I empathize with my students in their struggles. I'm not going to talk over your head, instead working to break down complex topics to make them easy and fun to understand. Also, I'll help you shoot down those doubts you have about your own abilities. I want you to realize that if you can put in the time and the effort to do something, you really can pull it off!

So what do you say? Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Blake is a very dedicated filmmaker, he has experimented a lot...and you can feel it because he's teaching is simple and clear. He's very prepared, ofcourse, but you know: many pro out there are also well "prepared".. you could go to cinema schools and find some teachers and they are probably prepared. NOW fact is Blake is not a normal teacher who is teaching you what he knows just because he's prepared to do that. Blake is an hyper-active and truly passionate filmmaker who's able to transfer enthusiasm together with notions..studying filmmaking with him has been more like diving into the deep waters of filmmaking and storytelling...not just fontal lesson on theory and technical stuff..he didn't fed students with tons of notions "do this, do that, shutter speed, iso, how to slo-mo, fps and blabla" ... we went out, hands on, we started to shoot...also people who never shot before. I got inspired to do more.. to go out and try and make mistakes and shoot and shoot more..believing in my vision, in my ideas.. so much that I started to get my sh..t done! After few months I started to get my first payed video-jobs too..now I don't want to say that this happened like magically after his course, of course you need to push yourself, but lemme say: if there is one person I owe my motivation to is absolutely Blake. He shared his knowledge with me, he inspired me to realize my own experience. Also after the course, he has been available for questions when I needed back-up on things I was not sure about..and this is really nice ((and in my experience not common at all ;)) Thumb up!!

About Igor
Hi again,

(by the way, i'm writing this assuming addressing the person that i will work with, if you're a parent or somebody else reading this, please imagine you were the one that needs this service).

So in the previous section i think i described myself pretty thoroughly. I will use this section to let you know what you can expect from me, so you have a better idea of who i am and what i can do for you.

I will focus on YOUR needs

What does that mean? I remember when i was learning English and they were teaching me a lot of irrelevant stuff. I learned things like: " Sally likes apples and Bob likes cakes" It's all nice, but what i really wanted to know was what to say to a teacher when i want to go to the washroom. But nobody ever asked me what i want to learn, they just told me what i should learn. And that's fine, there is a plac
e for practicing things like "Sally likes apples", but if you have an area where you want to improve in. Tell me and we'll practice. We can roleplay! I will ask you questions and you will try to answer as best you can and i will correct you. I will talk with you in English like i would talk to a friend (like my friend did to me when i was learning English) and you will pick it up much faster! I will go as slow or as fast as you can handle. You can tell me about your day. Or ask questions. We will try a few things and find what works for you!

I am a fan of compound learning.

What does that mean? Here is an example! We can learn what the words: apple. Juice. I. Want. are individually. ORRRR we can learn a sentence of: I want apple juice. Instead of trying to make your brain remember 4 objects separately, you will only have to remember 1 object that contains all of those smaller objects. That speeds up learning a lot. Of course, it depends on your level. And we will start with the very basic stuff. But as soon as you get the basics, we will move on to this. And before you know it, you will start speaking in complete sentences. And once you speak, you will read, write and be on your way to think in English.

I will be patient with you!

I will go at the speed that you can handle. There will be homework too!
