I took AP music theory in high school and went on to take ear training and music theory at Syracuse University, where I received my BFA in Theatre. I have Sibelius, a music notation software, and am very proficient in it because of my music theory knowledge.

I graduated with a BFA in Acting/Theatre from the theatre program at Syracuse University (SU). At SU, I also studied in the Setnor School of Music, taking choir, music theory, and competing with a collegiate a cappella group. Through my undergrad degree, I studied at the Globe Theatre in London and spent a semester taking classes with Broadway and TV/Film Casting agents in New York City. I have performed professionally in Scotland, New York, and toured many theatres and schools in Chicago, Wisconsin, and Indiana. I have experience music directing, directing, choreographing, and teaching acting and voice for elementary/middle/high school students and programs around the Chicagoland area. *** Lesson Details ***

I am energetic, positive, and specific. Singing can be easy and fun and I hope to instill that in all my students. I like to get work done while still smiling and laughing. In lessons, we will focus on properly using your breath and body to have the best technique possible. Whether you want to sing classical repertoire in your all-state choir, get into a competitive musical theatre BFA program, win scholarships, audition for Broadway or Disney, or belt a pop song better in your car/shower, I can definitely help you! Between 1 to 6 months, you can expect to have a stronger and fuller voice/sound, feel more confident singing/acting, and perform with more ease. We will stretch your vocal range so you begin to sing even higher and lower than before! I like to start the lesson with warm-ups and vocalizations, work in a little music theory, and then work on repertoire. I have many repertoire books and can help you choose songs that best fit your age, gender, and personality. However, you can also have the option of bringing in pieces you need to work on for auditions, shows, or just for fun! I encourage students to record the lesson so that you can practice between lessons and record notes if you are learning a song. I think music and theatre allows people to express themselves, gain confidence, and use their creativity/imagination. Great technique is a solid foundation for developing skills and individuality in your craft and a long career.

I had a great first lesson. She listened to my goals and concerns about my voice and then in a short half hour lesson worked me though many exercises that really helped me address my concerns and are helping me reach my goals. She is friendly and easy to work with but good at keeping me on track.

About Jill
I've been in and around music all my life. I started violin at age 5, part of the first generation of Suzuki violinists in the United States. I've loved being a professional violinist and violin teacher for over 30 years! And I've also founded and directed three community music schools in Newburyport, Boston, and Manhattan.

I hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, and I'm lucky to have had wonderful experiences during my formal training! In my undergraduate years, I was awarded a full 4-year scholarship for string quartet and chamber music playing, which was invaluable as a real-world training. In graduate school, I was fortunate to learn so much as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate violin students.

I have also been an innovator in musical education, and I've felt honored to coach numerous already gift
ed violin teachers who have sought me out to improve their techniques for best teaching practices. From my 30+ years of private violin teaching and observing how children learn, I developed a super fun groundbreaking class in New York City for 2.5 to 5 year old beginners called Crackerjack Kidz! And a few years ago, I wrote a text to accompany young students and their families.

I continuously work to be a master teacher dedicated to the very best methods, using a variety and combination of techniques and strategies tailored to the student's musical success and enjoyment.

While each lesson is different, we always try to spend a little time warming up, making sure we're comfortable and free of tension, reviewing what we've worked on, and layering in new concepts each time. the mid-70s. I became an assistant to composer and author of "The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization" copyrighted by George Russell. I also leaned music theory traditionally. Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my early childhood.
My mother, Anisia Kondrat'ievna,
possesses both beautiful vocal abilities and perfect pitch , although she has never had a chance to develop her natural gifts any further. But I have heard my mother singing, and these moments remain one of the most touching and impressive musical experiences, that I have ever received, and remember to this very day.
Only after a considerable life experiences, abound of trials and mistakes, at the age of twenty five, I have come to a clear realization, that music remains my greatest passion, and that I would have to become a professional musician. With help and support of friends and colleagues, I have entered Community College in Soroki city, Moldova Republic, where I have studied Choral Conducting for Amateurs. I have graduated from school in May of 1988, having written a few instrumental and vocal compositions of my own, and, quite unexpectedly for myself, was invited, that summer, to visit Moldova State Conservatory, with the prospect of audition for the Composition Major. After the meeting with the Chair of the Department, I was offered an opportunity to be accepted to the Master Degree Program in Composition, provided I will have completed two years of preliminary studies of Music Theory, Music Harmony/Voice Leading, and many other related disciplines.
Why do I bring all of these facts to this Essay? I know for the fact now, that I was not ready for what was awaiting ahead of me, back then. There was no way, that I could cope with the demands of Composition Program curriculum. But I have had love for music, that my parents have implemented in me throughout my childhood; I have had natural abilities, that Heavens supplied me with: and I have had a chance to make my dream a reality, providing I do everything that I will have to, during the following years of struggles and study.
The decision was made, and my studies have begun. I have come through every mistake, defeat, and mind-barriers imaginable, and if it would not be a continuous stream of professional help and support, that I have received from my numerous teachers, mentors, and professors, along the years of study, my goals could never be attained to any modest, but real degree.
Whenever I have a chance to teach, tutor, or assist other musicians with their study, my past experience always reminds me, that any person may experience some difficulties of various nature with the learning material, from time to time, and that those difficulties should be addressed by student's teacher with the highly individual approach, however time-and effort-consuming it may be. Patience and respect, in regard to the students, have become as important aspects of teaching to me, as those of discipline and professionalism.
My studies have come to an end; I see now, that the world of music is an endless entity, for it has no boundaries, and we all have to maintain our further progress, in order to move to our chosen destinations, and to help others with their own advancements.

My name is Michelle, and I'm an "older student" at the internationally renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. For years I was a professional, full-time cellist and music teacher in Southern California.

I have had the opportunity to do so many cool things with music over the years! I get to travel to other states, play in beautiful places like Carnegie Hall, give lectures at music schools, play in music videos with famous rock bands, even record for video games like League of Legends, and cues in prime time television! Wow, how lucky am I? It all seems surreal. How did I get to do all of those cool things?

It's because I had so many awesome, loving, caring mentors who were there for me all of those times I got down on myself and felt like giving up. Those moments on the road to fulfillment ar
e huge stepping stones, moments I will never forget and always have to lean on when I am filled with doubt. The power of an encouraging word of a mentor is priceless, and I believe the blessings I have are a testament to the presence of compassionate mentors in my life.

I've been teaching music for almost ten years, reaching hundreds of brilliant kids since I started teaching. I've always tried to be for my students like those mentors who were there for me.

My teaching philosophy is centered around fostering a connection between music and happiness. The necessarily includes loads of encouragement, fun, the occasional happy dance, discovering musical intuition (basic improvisation and listening), a holistic knowledge of music (basic theory and history), anxiety management, and life-long lessons about the value of concentration and hard work. I believe in getting to know my students personally, and usually take some time out of every lesson to catch up on my students' lives. This may seem like a waste of time, but in fact is extremely important for the student to feel as though they belong in my studio and, in a broader sense, the world of music.

My 9-year-old son has been taking cello lessons from Michelle for the past 1.5 months or so. I find her to be an excellent teacher. Michelle shows a genuine interest in my son, asking him about how he's doing and has the excellent ability to break down complex musical concepts into small, teachable increments. Not all teachers can do this and Michelle does it very well! She is encouraging and never demeaning, but is careful to point out weaknesses and models how to improve. She keeps the lesson going and packs much into 30 minutes. Her rewards program for younger students is highly motivating for my son! I have a BA in Music myself, and would highly recommend Michelle!

Michelle is a great teacher. I just feel I can make progress and really can learn from her class. Even though it is just my second class with her, but i love to have her classes. I can feel that every class she has some plan and know what kind of information should be covered by the class. Even though I am adult beginner, she treats me seriously to really teach me something. And every small thing, she will explain to me and make sure i can understand. It is very important because even though i am an adult, i am still the beginner and know nothing about cello. i love her class a lot and think i can really keep learning with her. BTW, her class is also very interesting and i can feel that she is a very experienced cello teacher.

Alexander has been teaching my 13 year old son cello for the past 8 months. He is by far the best instructor we have ever had. He is the perfect blend of patient, understanding, encouraging, and talented. I love that he praises what is done well and corrects what needs more work. I have received an award from Berklee College of Music's Community Affairs Dept. for my teaching work in the Boston area (see photo). I graduated Berklee cum laude honors and w/ 2 degrees, Drum Performance & Electronic Production & Design. I teach a wide variety of techniques & cater each lesson plan to each student, to maximize our time together & help make the student the best musician he/she can be! Josh is a great teacher! This is my very first approach to learning how to play an instrument and he goes over every concept very clearly and patiently. He also explains the technical background behind every concept and includes formal assignments for me to practice from one lesson to the other, which really helps optimize the time spent in the studio as well as speed up the learning curve. I would strongly recommend him to other students!

Hello! I'm a singer and actor who performs everything from opera to musical theatre to jazz to straight theatre. I have performed as far away as Bruges, Belgium.

As a teacher, I have taught privately and in the classroom for the past 14 years. I have taught for the Metropolitan Opera Guild Urban Voices as a Master Teaching Artist, for the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Days in the Arts program, for Watertown Children's Theatre, and for the North End Music and Performing Arts Center where her students have shared the stage with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Boston One City Choir.

As a performer, her favorite roles include Anita in "West Side Story", Jo March in "Little Women", and Carmen in "Carmen".

Miss Alexandra was such a patient and helpful instructor. She was extremely knowledgeable and went over the basic rudiments of piano. By the end of the lesson was able to execute a few scales and play a few pieces from beginning to end! I hope to take voice lessons from her as well!
