Professor Jean-Luc is phenomenal. I think the material he has chosen to give lessons with is very clear and has helped me improve a lot. Before every lesson he makes sure to send you the material for the next class, which helps a lot specially when you are learning online. The main reason why I chose him is because he is a french native speaker, which was extremely important to me because all my life I had french teachers that weren't french, so my pronunciation was a little bit weird-- I feel that I have improved a lot these 4 months :). I started learning French when I was 11 years old and Professor Jean-Luc helped me refresh my mind--it is interesting how he helped me remember many small grammar and writing details. I am very satisfied! Thank you Professor.

About EMILY H.

Waltham, MA

I've been teaching/tutoring for a real long time. I meet my students where they are - being able to recognize how each individual is able to take in information & adjusting my approach based on you.

I want you to learn & push yourself, while also having fun and being able to laugh at growing pains is part of the learning process to me.

About EMILY
Having been a teacher/tutor for many years, including improv, theater, elementary school math, English & reading comprehension. My style is patient, yet focused on learning and pushing boundaries, while making sure my students have fun and enjoy learning.

I was Adjunct Faculty at Clark University for 5 years in the Visual and Performing Arts Department, after that I unofficially tutored many of my friends & family in various subjects, mostly math and essays.

It's important to me to learn how the students I work with learn, organize themselves & absorb information, because everyone is different. There is no right way to teach each person. I want to take the time to get to know you as a student, so we can work in the most productive way possible. I love those magical moments where a challenging concept clicks, or when a student finds th
e fun in a subject that may have felt tedious - they've found a reason to WANT to learn. I want to bring that positive energy to everyone I tutor.

I majored in French in undergrad, studied abroad in Dijon, where I became fluent, and have traveled back many times, to preserve my French language. My strengths are in the beginning stages, where you're learning all of the basic phrases and things begin to come together. I also prefer to teach French through French, rather than translation through English.

I've been a writer & avid reader my entire life. I was always the friend that edited my friend's papers/grammar, loving to discuss the language and learning/understanding why we write things the way we do. I have a good eye for detail as well, which helps with proofreading.

I want to bring positive, fun thoughts to your education. It doesn't have to be difficult and tedious - we can learn and grow, through the lens of excitement. If you work with me you, you will get a patient, compassionate tutor that wants you to be the best version of you that you can be. We will work together to ensure that happens.

About Aksel A.

Close
Dorchester, MA
View Full Profile

I am a life long French speaker and graduated from Lycée Descartes with honors.
With a deep knowledge of the French language and its intricate ramifications, I will be your guitar coach to help you get where you need to be and master the French language from reading, writing to writing and speaking.

About Aksel
Experience

Master professional guitarist with 25 years of experience playing a large variety of genres such as classical, blues, jazz, country, heavy-metal, flamenco, and more.

Cosmopolitan modern musician, songwriter, and improviser with a worldwide background including European, Latin, African, Middle-Eastern and Asian genres.

Exceptionally trained musical ears allowing seamless integration and pairing with bands and music setups.

Experienced guitar instructor and mentor focusing on achieving personal goals of each of my students coming from various skills, ages, backgrounds, and locations

Great band leadership and team-building skills based on goal driven and a win-win approach.

As a music guitar lover, I have been sharing my passion for my art gradually as soon as I ramped up my instrumental mastery. I have been free
lancing with guitar mentorship and tutorship for about 10 years now, and have had students from all over the world.

I mainly specialize in 2 types of students:
- Entry level students who are just getting started. Sometimes these students don't even own an instrument, sometimes they barely know what a guitar is made of.
- Players with a few years of playing guitar abilities who stalled for various reason: not enough practice, not enough motivation, bad habits initially acquired that hindered their progressions.

I can play a large variety of genres, from blues to jazz, metal to flamenco, classical to folk, etc. I stress on acquiring good habits early on while adapting to the student specific skills, or sometimes, limitations.

Teaching Method

I usually group all guitar skills in 3 different categories:
- Chords
- Arpeggios
- Solos
I then break all the unique intricacies and specificities based on the student interest and existing skill. Everything else depends on the student's favorite genre.
My standard procedure is to pick 3 songs from a genre that the student wants to play, ordered by level of difficulty, and break them down into fragments that subsequently constitute the homework for the next sessions.

My specialty is to make sure the student eventually becomes self-reliant and independent. I teach them the power of their ears. I teach them techniques to help them improve their ears to be able to play any song that they would like in the long term. There is a bit of theory involved, but it's mostly practice.

I am totally passionate about teaching, and I provide that spark that motivates my students into getting the best out of themselves.

I follow the students own desires. I use a modern customer-oriented approach based on win-win and long term success. The guitar student is an aspiring virtuoso. As long as he/she focuses on the image of the perfect player he/she wishes to become, I am committed to the full extend to motivate, encourage, help, assist, suggest improvements, correct mistakes, answer questions and everything that will speed up the student's ramp-up into becoming that perfect player.
