Chris’s trumpet pedagogical practices are derived from multiple sources. For his beginner students, he utilizes “Essential Elements for Band” from Hal Leonard to create a solid foundation of sound pedagogy and engaging music to start their musical adventure. “Essential Elements” features both familiar songs and specific exercises to focus the student on the unique characteristics and unique sounds of their instrument. After the student reaches an intermediate level, Chris implements method books by Arban, Clarke, and Irons into the practice routine to further improve technical facility and be able to perform more challenging and advanced pieces. For those students interested in learning how to play jazz, Sporer supplies them with ear-training techniques, sheet music of jazz standards, and listening material for reference. He also demonstrates characteristics of this type of music including musical patterns that can be applied over common harmonic sequences and landmark solos for ...

At 40, I decided to pick up the tuba that I’d kept since playing in college. I wanted to get off to a solid start. I found in Bryan a solid teacher with a wealth of all sorts of musical knowledge. I implemented the lessons into practice and felt myself grow stronger in some areas than I had ever experienced in my first 10 years of practice and learning. I was also able to see a marked improvement in my bass guitar skills by applying many of the same concepts to the playing of that instrument. These lessons have been a great investment for my musicianship.
Kunjan
Bryan has very unique lesson plans and can channel his musical thoughts very clearly. He was very understanding and reflective of my needs. He then presented me with a series of mental models and exercises which i am certain will make me not just a better pianist but a better musician and also help me appreciate music better.

I would highly highly recommend Bryan and i will certainly continue the musicial journey with him.

Caleb is a warm, kind, patient person who is an exceptionally talented musician and teacher!

My son started playing trumpet with Caleb in 5th grade. He is now a junior. He currently plays with the Whitney Young Jazz Band, as well as with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra-Jazz.

Falling in love with playing trumpet has been a life changing experience! He has a deep love of music and he has a wonderful group of friends in the band. He couldn't have done it without Caleb's help!

"I have taken the trumpet lessons with Bobby S. for about two years now. What I really appreciate most about Bobby is his patience. As an older student, it can be very challenging to learn trumpet. Bobby presents his lesson in a way that is easy to understand. He takes the time to explore what my difficulties are. Then he presents me with ways to challenge them. Bobby also has a good understanding of music theory. He explains and demonstrates musical concepts very thoroughly."

"Caleb is an amazing trumpet specialist and a wonderful wonderful trumpet teacher. My son who is now 12 started taking private lessons with Caleb in Dec 2014 as a complete beginner. He has progressed so much in a little over a year that he is the best trumpetor in his middle school. And he may be performing in a jazz band with high schoolers this fall. This is greatly because of Caleb. He is incredible with children and teens. He is patient, fun, and firm. We are so glad we found him."
