Students will identify a place that is special to them and represent the place and what makes it special through words and oil painting
“My students love this program! Truly, what an amazing gift this has been to our art community! Never have I felt so competent in incorporating art integration into my curriculum.”

About Kelvin
I am a highly organized, outcome-driven and motivated professional musician and educator with solid experience in the classroom. For the past 25 years, I have been employed with Amati music academy and seven years on the faculty of University of St Francis.
I am very comfortable with all aspects of the current music syllabus, including teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone color, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition. I am fully qualified, with a Bachelor of Education in Music, Double Masters in music performance and education from University of Nottingham.
I am proficient in classical, jazz and Celtic fiddle violin and possess solid skills in piano (grade 8-13) Royal conservatory system.
Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I str
ongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. Professional perform experience: The Chicago, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Three tours with Moody Blues, YoYo Ma etc....
The most important thing I look for in a student is communication skills, as well as talent. I like to nurture students and help identify their individual strengths, which is a key factor in shaping a musical persona that will make its mark both on and offstage. I do not advocate a uniform technique for all students. Physical differences and learning styles are always taken into consideration. Potential is as important to me as early achievements and experience. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, discriminating artists. I discuss practice techniques often and develop individualized scale routines. I encourage initiative and expressive musicality as well as precision. Above all, music needs to bring obvious joy to the student, regardless of the difficulties.”

Learn how to unlock your creative potential and release the artist inside you while also learning how to paint.

Deron C. has been exploring oil painting for over 20 years and has been teaching others how to express themselves creatively with it for over 10. He will lead you through a creative process that encourages creativity and allows painting students the freedom to paint in an intuitive way. Paint what you see whether the reference material is a photograph or a three-dimensional still life.

If you've never painted before, Deron will guide you through the basics of painting, color theory, and the elements and principles of design while helping you exercise and strengthen your creativity.

If you are a painter that needs a little advice or direction TakeLessons.com instructor Deron C. will help you evaluate your work, answer your questions and provide guidance to get you on the right track.

About Deron
I am a San Diego native and have shown my paintings extensively throughout San Diego. It wasn't until several years after I graduated from UCLA in 1994 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, that I really tried to show my work in galleries. Most recently, my work has been in shows at Project X Gallery, The Museum of the Living Artist, The San Diego Art Department, Sanctuary Gallery, Limbo Fine Arts, and Sushi Gallery. I have just started to show in other cities, most recently at the Rialto Theater in Corpus Christi, Texas and The Nico Gallery in Seattle, Washington.

Along with my painting career, I have created children’s book and magazine illustrations, done graphic design work, and taught others how to express themselves creatively through art. I have been creating curricula for children’s art programs and teaching them. I also have been te
aching adults how to paint at the San Diego Art Department for the past 10 years and, in the past two years, with Painting &Vino.

Through my decade of teaching painting, I have honed a teaching style that encourages students to balance creativity and imagination with technique and skill. I strive to help students discover a process in which they are able to express themselves creatively while also teaching paint application techniques, color theory and the Elements and Principles of design. I am often in front of 50+ people at a time presenting my painting techniques within a limited amount of time.

I look forward to coaching you whether you're someone who hasn't painted since you were a kid or you're a seasoned painter who just needs a little help, encouragement or direction.

It was great! Deron had me pick out a subject and send him the image ahead of time. He had it printed out and ready to go when I got there, along with the paint colors, brushes and everything. Very impressed with his organization. He went at just the right speed for me and we actually made good progress. I'm looking forward to the next lesson!

I provide classical instruction in portraiture, still life and landscape in your studio or mine. In this traditional approach to drawing and painting, what will be taught and focused upon are perspective, value and composition in order for the student to develop strong visual language skills. The program of study begins with a specific focus on drawing, since drawing is the foundation upon which all great traditional art is built. Throughout this training, emphasis will be placed on accuracy, or more specifically, seeing and rendering correctly such things as line quality, hard and soft edges, proportion, positive and negative space through abstract form and the use of the full range of values.

About Jeff
I'm a graduate of Dean College in Franklin, MA and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I majored in art history and studio art with a focus on portrait painting and illustration. I continued further study at the Andeeva Portrait Academy in Sante Fe New Mexico, the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art in Van Nuys, CA and the Sadie Valerie Atelier in San Francisco.

The program of study for drawing will include: Demonstration of one, two and three point perspective, creating the nine step value scale, cast drawing in charcoal, the still life in charcoal and drawing the portrait. The topic of composition will also be covered. I’ve done commissioned work for Audi, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the American Repertory Theater, the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Kessler Financial Ser
vices, Harvard Business School Publishing, Shilo Baptist Church, the Chelsea Soldiers Home and others. Samples of my work are available to view in my profile. Additional samples are available upon request.

He challenged my daughter outside of her normal comfort zone in a super fun way and she immediately asked for more lessons after the initial trial. Will definitely continue with more lessons.

I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical oil paint skills. I specialize in realism.

About Mariana
I am a professional artist. I've been studying representative fine art at the Art Students League of New York since 2013.

My students can expect to improve week to week in their drawing and painting techniques. While gaining knowledge of the fundamental principles of perception—light, plane-structure, tonal value, perspective, proportion—students will learn to construct images that realistically and accurately interpret objects in space. This solid foundation will enable students to express their personal creative vocabulary more clearly and effectively.

I teach students of all different ages and experience levels.

My personal passion is realism in classical and contemporary art but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better artist!

Lessons with Mariana were very helpful. I started as a beginner and she helped me to learn basic theory behind drawing, as well as to develop my skills and gain confidence. I studied graphite anatomical drawing and advanced a lot in that technique since we started a year ago.

Hello! I have been drawing and painting for most of my life. I attended school for visual art and have been extensively trained in various styles of making art (from "realistic" approaches to drawing and painting, to my own personal approaches in different "abstract" styles). I love to work with any medium: oil paint, acrylics, charcoal, graphite, ink, pastel, watercolors. I have won various awards for my art, including two Young Arts awards and numerous Scholastic Art and Writing awards.

My approach to teaching art is very open, and is based on what your goals are with the lessons. Let me know what you are interested in and I can shape the lessons around your needs. Feel free to ask my any questions. Looking forward to getting to know you!

About Daisy
Hello! I am a singer, musician and artist, originally from New York. I absolutely love and live for making music and art of all kinds. One of my greatest joys in life is exploring the bounds and possibilities of music -- especially using harmony, rhythm, emotion, and story.

My goal with offering singing/music lessons is for others to feel encouraged to use their voice and make their own music -- whether that mean in a formal setting, at school, at home, or simply for personal joy or curiosity (a very important reason). Everyone has an endless range of musical capabilities and sometimes one just needs the tools or confidence to develop them!

I can work within any range of genres or styles. Let me know what type of lessons you are looking for! I particularly believe in focusing on ear training and close listening to music that you pe
rsonally enjoy -- a kind of fun and immersive teaching -- rather than hurling technical information at you. However, we can discuss theoretical and technical concepts as is necessary, since these can be important tools. We can also go through exercises and warm ups, and perhaps record songs or work up covers. Whatever helps you on your path in music!

Whether you have no background in music, are interested in composing your own tunes, working up covers, or are a student -- if you are passionate or even just curious about music and/or trying something new, send me a message! I would love to talk to you and schedule a meet-up (in-person or online).
