Basic math, preparation for algebra at any level

About Daniel
My name is Daniel B. I have my A.A. Degree and I am currently a junior at Washington University in St. Louis. I am majoring both in Psychology and Biology with a strong emphasis on counseling, research and medicine.

Daniel was the perfect tutor for my son's prep for the GED. He was patient, prepared to help with test taking skills along with the actual content of the tests, and made himself available on a very short notice. In addition, Daniel is just a nice, respectful person that was a pleasure to interact with. I can not say enough. Highly recommend him!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I graduated with a degree from UCLA with high honors (Dean's Honors List, Magna Cum Laude) in Integrative Biology & Physiology. I also took many classes at UCLA in education, linguistics, history, and English. I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through rigorous UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken include: AP Physics B (Score = 5); AP Chemistry (Score = 5); AP Biology (Score = 5); AP Calculus AB (Score = 5); AP Statistics (Score = 5); AP US Government & Politics (Score = 5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~~~~~~~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science, and I have taught math anywhere between pre-algebra and calculus for 5 years. I have received perfect scores on both SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math Level 2 (SAT Subject Test). I have taken AP Calculus BC while in high school, and I have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT, and I actively participated in many math competitions through elementary, middle, and high schools.

Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests. I always carry around books containing extra problems depending on the students' levels and goals.

I have taught students anywhere from 4th grade to adults, including college

About Nayoon
“I would not have passed my test in such a short time without her. I hired her a week before my test. She was very professional and very smart, and she used different technique to help me remember.”
- Fabiola

“My daughter is so happy about her A in math. Thank you for everything you are teaching her!”
- S., Newton, MA

I'm an MIT tutor specializing in math and test prep, and I have taught math (anywhere from prealgebra to calculus) for 5 years. I have gotten perfect scores on SAT Math, SAT Math 2, and ACT Math. I also have taken AP Calc BC, AP Chem, and AP Bio. I have been an active member of math team throughout secondary school, and my sister and I solve math problems for fun in our spare time. I am especially experienced with the gifted students.

I believe in deep learning. Deep learning helps students build strong foundation
s to succeed in future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, I show how the formulas are derived and drill the students on concepts until they fully master the materials. If you think we may be a good fit, please click the green button on the right!

I am certified by the National Tutoring Association. I was a Math major and graduated with honors. I was selected to attend a special Math camp at Stanford University. I worked in the Math lab in college and taught Calculus 101. My specialty now is elementary and middle school math. Pre Algebra covers the range of basic math skills put forth by Common Core guidelines. I am a certified Substitute, K-12, and teach the range of math lessons required by Common Core. Many math challenges at this age are the result of bad habits, poor handwriting and lack of organizational skills. Confidence in math at this age is also a key factor. A great relationship with a tutor can provide the confidence necessary to tackle math and set the foundation for future success in high school and college. We can always find a way to make math fun!

About Kristine
Greetings future student! I come from a long line of educators, from elementary school all the way up to college professors. My background check is on file with Wyzant.

I have been in the field of education in one way or another for as long as I can remember! I am certified by the National Tutoring Association and am certified in TESOL/ESL. I was a teacher's assistant in college and also worked in many of the resource labs on campus to help struggling students. I am a certified Substitute teacher, K-12, and also teach English to Chinese students online. I have degrees in Math and French, and graduated with honors. I have traveled abroad extensively and lived in a variety of cities here in the US. I am an Academic Coach and cover the range of skills needed to help support students in school. This includes both school , in-house, resou
rces for support and outside support, if needed. I will tailor our lessons based upon your individual learning style and goals. Confidence is the key to success in school, and often a great relationship with a tutor and academic coach is the foundation required for skilled navigation of our educational system. Both parents and students alike benefit from a great tutor / coach relationship. I look forward to learning more about you!

Kristine has a gentle touch and puts my daughter at ease with her math struggles. We have tried several other tutors before settling on Kristine. As parents, we have a lot of anxiety about our daughter's school performance as well. Not only has Kristine helped bring up my daughter's grades and confidence, she has helped guide us on how to best use free resources at school to help our daughter. She has been instrumental in turning a negative experience with our daughter's school into a positive one. I do view her as an Academic Coach with a variety of skill sets. We have recommended her to others and have received similar excellent reviews.
