I emphasize reading and use of the rudiments. I also teach the Moeller Method and how to apply it to all the rudiments as well as to the drum set.

About Phil
Phil B. has Bachelor's Degree in Percussion Performance that he earned at Central Washington University in 1991. Soon after graduating from CWU Phil relocated to the Seattle area and has been teaching and performing professionally in this area ever since. As a performer Phil has worked with many different artists known both internationally and locally in a very wide range of styles, such as Stephen Pearcy (voice of the 80's Metal Band Ratt), top local big band The Jazz Police, Popular Las Vegas Entertainer "Zowie Bowie, and the late great blue legend Isaac Scott (voted into the Washington Bl
ue Society Hall of Fame 1991). Recently Phil has been working with some of the most popular dance/show bands in the Northwest, including The Goods, That 80's Show, Galaxy 54, Vanity, and Gold Digger.
As an instructor Phil worked as a clinician and private instructor with Music Works Northwest and the Seattle Drum School. Currently Phil teaches privately in several different studios in the Seattle Puget Sound area.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Complete 5-piece Drum Set

*** Specialties ***
I teach the Moeller Method. This is a system of technique which involves three basic wrist motions. The basics can be taught in one lesson, but the application takes a lifetime. I also teach all popular styles of contemporary drum set, such as rock, jazz, funk, r&b, and many different Latin styles. I work with students on reading both on snare drum and drum set and also get them playing along and transcribing with recordings of whatever style of music is of interest to them.

I am over 60 and always wanted to learn music, especially the drums. Phil is not only a great teacher, but also has shown remarkable patients for someone like myself with absolutely no music talent whatsoever.

I've been a drummer and percussionist for over 20 years. I've studied African rhythms with Ghanan drummers, and have taken many years of tabla lessons at the Ali Akbar College. As a drumset player, I've studied with many of the best teachers alive, and can teach any style from jazz to hip-hop to punk and onward.

About Jeremy
A Berklee College of Music graduate and a professional music instructor for over ten years, I can help you to reach your musical goals. I tailor lessons to suit your needs covering everything from skill development, music theory and musicianship, to expanding your repertoire and composing original work. I play and teach drums, piano, bass and guitar. I am new to Seattle, having just moved from San Francisco where I performed regularly at a wide array of venues such as Great American Music Hall, Freight and Salvage, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Bimbos, Bottom of the Hill, Savanna Jazz,
Amnesia, Ashkenaz, Mystic Theater and Cafe Du Nord. I play many styles of music. Jazz, rock, funk, punk, blue-grass... you name it. I can show you how to play what you want to play.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe in a strong musical foundation and that learning to play music should be fun!

*** Specialties ***
Whatever style the student is attempting, I stress proper technique and understanding of theory.

I teach all levels of students. Beginners to advanced playing professionals.

About John
Education:
Private Lessons.
1950 J.Burns Moore(Snare Drum)
1953 Sam Ulano, New York, NY, (Drum Set)
1954 Cozy Cole, New York, NY, (Drum Set)
1960 Al Gardella, New Haven, CT, (Drum Set)
1969 Saul Goodman, (Principle Percussionist New York Philharmonic), (Tympani)
Teaching experience:
1960 1963 Percussion instructor Milford CT. Shoreliners Drum & Bugle Corps
1967-1975 Private instruction New Haven CT.
1991-present Private instruction.

Playing experience:
I have been playing professionally since 1960. Beginning with innumerable casual gigs around NYC, NJ, and CT. I then
"graduated"
to a brief tour (3 months) with Victor Zembrusky and his Polish Eagle Orchestra (a major polka band, polka is an
early form of Punk Music). As a member of the "house rhythm section" at Dangerfields Club in New York I was privileged to
play dates for many headliners including Peggy Lee, Al DeMeola, Mel Torme, and others. I was also fortunate to have been
selected to play for Peggy Lee during a brief 6 week tour throughout New England. (Peg's regular drummer had to leave her
tour in NYC. Regrettably he returned in great health despite my having consulted a voodoo priestess to insure otherwise.) I was
a member of the Connecticut Hurricanes Senior Drum and Bugle Corps durring their 1966-1967 National championship
seasons.

Since moving to Washington in 1984 I have played and recorded jazz, pop and classical sessions all over the Northwest.
Notable local Artists I have accompanied include: Anne Pell, Denny Gore, Peter Toyne, Ken Olenforf, Johnny Z, Lee Brumley,
Hans Bremmer, Chris Smellow, Richard Thompson and Bonnie Murphy pianists. Bud Hellner, Alan Simcoe, Joe Euro, and
Peter Toyne guitarists. Peter Manning, Niel Conaty, Ted Enderly, Paul Lewis, and the late Leroy Vinnegar on Bass. Local
vocalists whom I have had the privilege of supporting include: Bonnie Bridges, Trish Hately, Jenny Davis and Toby Schnider. I
have also played for many community performing arts organizations including The BPA, The Bainbridge Chorale, Bainbridge
Orchestra, Orchestra Northwest and various musical productions.

My pedagogic method is to build my students' technical and intellectual vocabularies. Thus I teach "from first principles". I
believe that in order to make musical sense of an instrument that can play no definite pitches the musician must be fully
equipped to express herself in terms of all of the possibilities for expression the instrument possess.
Philosophically, it is my objective to fully prepare my students to enjoy the music making process. We study musical styles,
history, song construction, criticism, and ensemble playing.

Adjudication experience:
Drum Corps International, Drum Corps Associates, State level solo and Ensemble competitions.

Professional Organizations:
Percussive Arts Society, National Association of Music Educators,United States Association of Rudimental Drummers

I am a junior at Pacific Lutheran University, in the Music Education program. I have been playing for nearly 10 years and am currently a member of PLU's Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Steel Pan Ensemble.

My hopes in creating these page are to find students, nearing or currently in the middle school age range, who want to learn the basics of percussion playing, timpani, marimba, and snare technique, as well as reading/theory, and instrument maintenance.

About Timothy
Timothy H. is a Senior Music Education major at Pacific Lutheran University. He is originally from Grants Pass, Oregon, but spent his middle and high school years in Bremerton, Washington. He now lives in Parkland where he works and attends school. His main goal is to share his love of music with students and teach them the skills they need to be successful in solo work and ensembles. He is dedicated to the education of music, and is looking to cultivate a lifelong love of music in his students.

I have not observed Tim while he is teaching, however, I've known him for three years as he's been in our scholarship program. He is dedicated and motivated;I think he will be an excellent role model for children. I am delighted he's chosen teaching as his profession, as I think it's a very good fit for him.
