If you're interested in programming and have never typed a print statement before, or if you're a college student who needs help with your current programming assignment, I'm your guy!

Currently, I specialize in iOS development at a tech company in downtown Boston. In college, I worked pretty much exclusively with Java and JavaScript. Solving tricky problems is my day job and I'm excited to help teach you how to think like a programmer!

For beginners, I can introduce you to the thought process behind programming. One of the most important lessons when learning is to be able to take a problem and break it into smaller, more manageable problems. To work on this concept, we can start with simple word problems and try to break it into simpler steps.

For college students studying programming in some way (computer science or math majors), or for people that already have some knowledge and just want to improve: something we can do is cover the basics to separate technologies that ...

About Nathan
I'm Nate!

Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a kid. I started drum lessons when I was in second grade and eventually switched to learning bass in seventh grade. I've been playing bass ever since (so for about ten years now).

In high school, I studied music extensively and worked one-on-one with many of my teachers to gain a better understanding of the subject.

In 2012, I was accepted for Jazz bass performance at UMass Amherst back. After a semester of intense music study, I switched majors and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a focus in Software Engineering.

In high school and in college, I tutored students via an online tutoring portal (similar to TakeLessons). Subjects I've tutored in include 5th grade and 7th grade mathematics, as well as college level music theory.

I look forwar
d to meeting you and learning what it is exactly you wish to improve. I'll do everything I can to help you achieve that goal and hopefully have fun doing it!

I am a programmer analyst. I have an IT sole proprietary home office business called LINK. LINK deals with the design of computer software including programming analysis, databases, and data analysis. Link applies mathematical modeling that relates to computer software. This includes One-Dimensional Databases; Multi-Dimensional Databases; MS Works; MS Access, DataStage; Data Science; Data Structuring; Data Management; Data Compression; Data Arranging; Data Search; Extracting Data; Big Data; Spatial Data, Data Integrity; Data Anomaly; Utilizing SQL in Data Science; Data Correction; Applications of the Theory of Probability to Data; Bayesian Data Analysis; Application of Monty Hall Paradox to Raw Data; Data Storage; Data Control; Blocking Bad Data; Importing & Exporting Data; Creating Live Data; Complex Data Problems; Mutually Inclusive & Mutually Exclusive Data; Data Wrangling; Data Pattern Identification; Descriptive & Predictive Data; Data Security; Data Visualization; Structured & ...

About AHMED
I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.

Although I am a statistics major, programming is a big part of my curriculum as my concentration within statistics is computer science/machine learning. I've taken more than my fair share of Computer science courses at Carnegie Mellon University and even my statistics assignments often require heavy programming. My current job is as the sole web developer for a growing company and this includes front and back end development as well as database management.

About James
I am a student at Carnegie Mellon University and have been teaching or tutoring for close to a decade now. This includes paid and volunteer private tutoring, classroom teaching, teaching assistant, and even a summer camp for elementary and middle-school students to learn computer science and programming skills. I also competed in math club during high school and was particularly successful in my senior year competing in statistics (6th place in the individual Nationals statistics event).

Whether you want to catch up with your current math course, get ahead and learn more advanced math, or aiming to ace your SAT/ACT I'd be happy to help. What I enjoy most is to have a friendly, peer relationship with students rather than being seen as just a tutor so you can expect to have fun while learning. However, what is most important to me is not l
earning how to solve problems or getting high grades but rather knowing that my students UNDERSTAND the problems and solutions without simply memorizing. And you can take that as my personal guarantee.

Some might call me a "math nerd" (to which I take absolutely no offense) but I have other interests as well. Most recently I've taken up golf but I love playing any sport with friends. I also watch nature documentaries and comedies. And of course I also love videogames (Overwatch, COD, FIFA) as well as boardgames. To some parents these might seem like useless facts but as an experienced teacher I can tell you that connecting with students on unrelated topics has an invaluable effect on the student-teacher relationship and will make for a smoother, unfiltered learning atmosphere. Not to mention it's much more exciting to refer to a sports analogy for a word problem rather than the unrelatable problems people are unfortunately used to ("person A buys x ft of fence...").
