Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !
Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.
A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science, and I have taught math anywhere between pre-algebra and calculus (including Precalculus) for 5 years. I have received perfect scores on both SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math Level 2 (SAT Subject Test). I have taken AP Calculus BC while in high school, and I have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT, and I actively participated in many math competitions through elementary, middle, and high schools.
Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests. I always carry around books containing extra problems depending on the students' levels and goals. I often introduce relevant SAT Math 2 problems to help

I believe in in-depth learning. In-depth learning helps my student build the foundation necessary to succeed in their future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, many of my lessons feature derivation of formulas. For the lessons that do not involve formulas, I present a few simple concepts from which we can derive and solve many other problems. My lessons also feature numerous questions to enhance student engagement and to improve student confidence of having them solve the problem on their own as much as possible. I then drill my students with practice problems and get them to explain until I'm fully convinced that my students truly understood the material.
Though I specialize in gifted students, I also have worked with students from all kinds of background. Most of my students are either high school or college students, but I also worked with younger students. I also helped some students implement organizational tips and develop study skills necessary to succeed in their future classes. My students are from all over the world--China, France, Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and United States. To this day, my closest friends are still the international students. English is my second language as well, and I certainly empathize with students who struggle with the English language.

I taught myself pre-calc/calculus in my freshman year in high school. I know firsthand how difficult it is to learn math, but I have overcame these challenges myself and will guide you to overcome them too. I stress understanding/intuition rather than memorizing boring formulas as that's how I learned it myself.
I also have 3 years of math/computer science tutoring experience, which will surely come in handy!
I enjoy tutoring and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!

Matt is a rare gem in the tutoring world. He has an amazing style of teaching. He really goes in depth. My 11th grader son has a lot of respect for him. According to my son, "Matt is a genius". I always ensure to provide the highest quality lessons and ensure that the student easily understands the materials. I'll provide materials that I know will assist the student to master the concepts.
Learning requires the student to put in effort. Any assignments I give, I will expect them to be completed. I understand that sometimes one of "those weeks" comes around where life hits us in the face, but it's not every week.
You've come to me obviously to learn something new, and I intend to go above and beyond those expectations. I want the lessons to be more than just sit down, do the work, and then leave. That's not a great way to learn stuff, in my opinion. Expect to be brought out of your comfort zone a bit and experience things you never experienced before.
