I have over 10 years experience teaching drums to all different ages. I received the “Outstanding Youth Advocate” award from Berklee College of Music's Community Affairs Dept. in 2014 for teaching at the Boys&Girls Club in Allston, MA. I perform a lot around the northeast U.S., spanning a diverse spectrum of styles.

If desired, I can teach out of several books - including Garwood Whaley - Musical Studies for Intermediate Snare Drummer, Charley Wilcoxon - The All-American Drummer: 150 Rudimental Solos, Charles Dowd - Funky Primer for the Rock Drummer, and Tommy Igoe - Groove Essentials 1.0+2.0

Or I can teach without any books as I have a wealth of knowledge in me!

I teach rudiments, hand+foot techniques, coordination exercises, grooves - stemming from rock to funk to jazz, bossa nova, samba, west african, and much more.

Josh is always easy to be around and is able to form any lesson around what I wanted to do, as well as teach me loads of new ideas if I hadn’t planned anything. He has greatly helped improve my own production and give me insight into what professional producers do to set themselves apart. He’s great to work with and always in an uplifting mood.
Chris
Josh is an awesome teacher. He is patient and supportive and always comes up with ways to connect me to the concept he’s teaching. I asked to learn drums “the right way” so we spend a ton of time on fundamental exercises that i suspect are boring for him but he never shows it. He is always upbeat and positive and I enjoy our lessons a lot. Could not recommend him more highly.

The drums are the backbone of most music, so you have to be able to feel the groove and stay tight and on top of the beat. I encourage students to pick their favorite songs, and we drum to those while learning proper technique, rudiments, song form, fills, rhythm, different grooves / beats, and anything they want to know about the drums. I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years and have a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music. Drums is a beautiful art and form of expression and is just the tip of the iceberg we can tackle called Music.

I'm inspired to impart a vibrant love for the art of drumming to my students. I value giving students a strong foundation in the fundamentals of rhythm, technique and all styles of music, as well as exploring the individual and creative interests of each of my students.

I have degree in Music Education from CU Boulder (2012) with a special interest in jazz studies, improvisation and classical percussion. I also have thorough experience with traditional Indian spiritual music known as kirtan. I have taught middle school music in Denver public schools as well as privately for ages ranging 7-30. Studied with various professional musicians around Colorado, including Paul Romaine, Mike Marlier, Brad Goode, John Gunther and Doug Walter.

All in all, music is an art form meant for cultivating the human spirit and enriching life. My desire is to impart this gift to my students through the art form of drums, rhythm and creativity.

I teach drum set and marching percussion, teaching for four years. I teach both tenor and snare drum for marching.

Lessons are tailored to the individual student and their experience, goals, and materials available. Having the respective instrument at the teaching location is preferred, but the minimum materials required are drumsticks, a drum pad, and a stand for the drum pad.

Drum set students should expect to learn the basics of technique and drum set-up. From there, lessons are tailored to the individual student, specifically what genres they are interested in. For beginners, I use "The Best Beginner Drum Book" by Drumeo.

Marching percussion students learn a heavier emphasis on technique, constantly being implemented into lessons. Students learn a variety of musical pieces and see technical and musical growth through each piece.

About Kevin

As a performer, I was heavily involved in my high school's music program being involved in: the advanced jazz band (drum set), advanced choir (baritone), musical pit (drum set/auxiliary percussion), show band (vibraphone/tenor drums), an

But then Corey got me switched on to a couple of method books and practice routines that kicked me up to a whole new level! Everyone in my band could tell the difference, and drumming is fun and exciting for me again. 5/5 would recommend Corey to any level of drummer looking to grow!"

When Should You Replace Your Drum Heads?

A big part of drum set maintenance is knowing when to replace your drum heads. But when is the right time to do so? Of course, the right time will depend on how often you play - and also how hard you play. It can also depend on the sound you're going for, but a good rule of thumb is to switch out their drum heads when they start losing their original tone - they may sound dull, flat or worn. Other factors are if you notice dents (likely to happen if you're still using the stock heads), if you …
