Song writing for me is a process.
To be able to go through the process, one has to have certain musical skills. If a song writer lacks those skills, I try to impart them with the missing elements. From there we learn to build a song from the ground up.

Writing songs is not as difficult as it may seem. I have guided many students through the process. It is truly a fun and creative time for both student and teacher.
Some familiarity with harmonic and rhythmic concepts, as well as some analytic terminology is necessary to get the ideas out of your head and into the air. I like to start by analyzing the songs of others and discussing them. Then we get down to the brass tacks and talk about the song as if it were no different than the blueprint of a building.

Hello and welcome! According to their interests, my students learn song form, how to create their own personalized sound libraries, music notation, how to work with synthesizers, the business of being a successful song-writer, and much more. Often the most challenging part of becoming a song-writer is developing your own work-flow that can bring out ideas in a fast and efficient way. Once these ideas are recorded, whether through traditional notation methods or using a DAW or audio recording device, the most important part of the job is to develop these ideas in a unique and captivating way. We will cover all of these and much more in our lessons.

Are you learning to play guitar because you want to be able to write your own songs? Guitar teacher Samuel B. shares some tips to help you write lyrics to your first song... Just as writing a song on guitar can seem like work for only a select few, so can writing the words to one. Once again, this assumption and the truth are completely unrelated. You don't need to be Bob Dylan or Bernie Taupin to do it – you only need to have something to say. I first began writing lyrics as teenag …
