Book NowMy personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music. I have many resources and a vast library of literature available for my lessons that I have compiled through my years at Berklee studying with the world's greatest bassists and theorists.
My main goal in every lesson is to be as time efficient as possible. We start with introducing new warm up exercises or new approaches to playing the instrument with confidence and facility. This is important for students of all levels so we can learn the correct ways to execute our favorite music in the most efficient way possible. From there I always spend the most time on the student's goals, like learning a new song or perhaps theory and improvisation. My ...

I am an orchestral clarinetist, K-12 music teacher and home school parent offering Christian clarinet lessons to students ages 10 and older. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA, a Master of Arts in Theology from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and I have studied with teachers who graduated from Julliard and Manhattan School of Music. I have also been influenced by the teaching style and signature sound of clarinetist David Weber, as well as Russian and Slavic traditions of teaching, all of which emphasize the art of clarinet playing - the combination of proper technique with fluent, beautiful musicality. I have a passion to help my students enjoy making music for the glory of God and offer lessons which are fun and inspiring!

Students can expect a teacher that addresses every single aspect of learning orchestral upright bass: from honing bow technique, to left-hand formation and fingering choices, to reading musical notation, interpreting music and learning rhythm.
My goal is to help students develop a technical foundation on the bass for playing just about any kind of music that they are interested in, and to support students with practicing tips for areas in their playing where they want to improve. My specialty is symphony orchestra training, so I primarily use the Essential Elements for Strings books at the beginning, and then later as students make progress, I begin to introduce standard orchestral repertoire, sonatas, and concertos written for the bass. I have been teaching since August 2016 and so far I have helped students get into All-States, ensembles at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division, Districts/Regional festivals, youth orchestra programs, and music degree programs at ...

Darren worked with her every week on a completely new song, introduced great techniques that enabled her to learn quickly and develop new skills. Those 8 weeks were very productive as my she learned the entire song, did the audition and was accepted into the Berklee music program. Darren is a very knowledgeable and dedicated music instructor and I am grateful to him for helping my daughter get into a selective music program. The online lessons from Darren are exceptional. You will not be disappointed with his instructions.

The cello has always been my greatest passion in life. I am originally from China and am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Cello Performance at Azusa Pacific University. I have been performed internationally, included Asia, the USA, and Europe. My first instrument was piano, but I soon discovered my passion for the Cello, which became my primary musical focus. I have a lot of patient and passion for teaching. I believe everyone can learn to play the cello with hard-working and proper training.
