Beginner
I'm not currently taking beginner guitar students. Please refer to my studio partner Andrew:
https://takelessons.com/profile/andrew-i5
Intermediate
Learn about common variations of the tonalities you already know and start to venture into more complex rhythm ideas like polyrhythms. Also start to build the chops to learn parts more accurately when learning songs.
Advanced
Expand into more complex polyrhythms as well as asymmetrical meters. Also expand harmony and melody to include modes and chromaticism. Push your skills through original creations or original arrangements of existing material.
About Jesse
I'm currently not taking beginner students on guitar, bass, drums, piano, or ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Andrew and Melissa though. Please check out their profiles for the following topics:

My Background
I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Ar
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.
Philosophy of Learning
Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.
I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.
I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Once or twice a year we'll also stage a larger event off site for more individual students and bands classes to perform.
Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.
Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)
*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
My studio is equipped with:
*Music Stands
*A P.A. System
*Vocal and instrument microphones
*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc
*Two guitar amps and a bass amp
*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set
*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set
*An electric piano console and Yamaha organ
*A MicroKorg Synthesizer
*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, and Flute
*An extensive physical and virtual music library
*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to
*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

I have taught guitar for 10 years and believe students should get to play what they want to play! Students are asked to come up with a list of songs and/or artists they would love to play. Through teaching chords, note reading and theory, the song possibilities are endless! I also can help the aspiring singer/guitar player to be able to both play and sing simultaneously.

The most important thing to me is to keep the student interested and engaged in the lessons. This way learning guitar is easy and fun, not a struggle. A great place to start is by learning songs you enjoy listening to. Then later moving on, applying theory and scales to the songs we have learned.
About Sam
I'm a recent graduate of Berklee College of music where I majored in professional music. This included music theory and guitar instruction, as well as reading and writing music notation and charts in different styles. I also play frequently around the DC area, including shows at The 9:30 Club, The Howard Theater, Shamrockfest, The Black Cat, Half Street Fairgrounds. and Gaylord National resort.
For the past three years I have been teaching guitar lessons to student of all ages, with excellent results! I always keep the students interested by teaching songs they are excited to learn, while also making sure that they continue to grow as a guitarist and musicians. Lessons can be in Rock, Jazz, or Pop styles, and on acoustic or electric guitar. Music theory is included to the extent that the student and/or parents are interested. Lesson

About Sharon H.
CloseThe most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to guide him or her to a point where advancement becomes a self discipline.
This is accomplished by getting to know a student's learning style and adapting to it. And absolutely laying a strong foundation in fundamentals of music.
I've been teaching private lessons for over five years and all of my students have extensive instruction in music theory. I also encourage experimentation and creativity to work in some music composition.
About Sharon
In High School I finally did manage to play in a band that would play shows in the Greater Rochester Area in New York State. Once I hit age 18, I packed my bags and moved to San Diego where I continued working on my craft and started my new life.
I never stopped playing music, writing songs, and trying to find people to collaborate with. By the time I started my career as a hairstylist, I knew that I had to share my love and passion for music with others and endeavored to build a student schedule.
My first students, as an adult, were my future in-laws. Mother, father and si
Within a year, I had enough referrals to fill 2 days of the week with students. I have held 3 recitals and plan on having a holiday recital this year.
I will never stop sharing music with others and look forward to meeting any new students granted via this platform.

I custom tailor my guitar lessons to the needs of each individual player. Rather than just apply a blanket approach and ignore the strengths/weaknesses/interests of the student, I take the time to figure out what the student really wants to do on the guitar, and then figure out the best way to get them there.
About Vince
For a while I taught guitar lessons to students of all ages and abilities out of a converted mill near my home in Providence, Rhode Island. Eventually though, touring commitments became too much to allow me to continue teaching so many lessons locally.
I split my time these days between writing/touring with my major label signed band, and producing and mixing albums for artists from around the world. While on the road and at home I enjoy helping students learn guitar, production and music in general. I hope to get the chance to work with you.

I've been teaching and playing professionally in many countries as well as the US. I know how to see what the student needs to advance their playing. I offer expertise in several types of guitar playing from folk finger picking to blues, country and city styles as well as soul and funky grooves and how to practically apply what you learn both with bands and solo. I am passionate about music and love to convey that enthusiasm to my students as learning should be first and foremost fun and a joyful experience.

I took lessons previously and was OK with them, but found myself wandering and lacking a sense of ‘commitment’ to the teacher and to my studies. Dry.
I’m not a kid anymore and was looking for a teacher who could work with my adult enthusiasm, excitement, and I didn't want to be rooted to teaching me the pentatonic scales in all keys before we could get to some playing and having some fun, too... I was hoping for a teacher who could personalize his teaching skills, and for me, Jonathan came through with flying colors. He’s so much more than a “One Size Fits All” teacher; he’s a real person – reachable, able to identify my needs, my strengths and weaknesses, and takes this into full consideration during our lessons. He’s an experienced, talented teacher. Simple.
He’s a person that really knows his stuff from musical theory to the many styles of playing, i.e., blues, jazz, folk, country and even rock; he can play and more importantly – he can teach um all! I’m an aspiring singer/songwriter and in addition to helping me define those strange chords I’m playing, he inspires me to ‘grow on.’
Oh, and one more thing: If your lesson is an hour long and there’s something important happening, he won’t cut you off - he’ll take the extra time needed to get you to the end of ‘the measure,’ comfortably." Feb 2017 Rachel I.

I have much to offer the beginner/intermediate student. Besides teaching the student how to play his or her favorite songs, I can provide lessons in technique, reading music and tablature (so he or she can learn to play whichever song they want without the assistance of a teacher), fretboard knowledge and theory, improvisation, general music theory and composition (so that he or she can write his or her own songs), as well as general maintenance and repair, and practical knowledge regarding playing live, using and tweaking amps and foot pedals, etc. I use Guitar Pro 6 software as a visual aid, and can provide study sheets and notes in the form of Guitar Pro files (for the student who may have the program) or printed and/or .pdf documents (for the student who may not have the program). Each lesson will be geared toward the individual student's musical interests and desires, so whether you're interested in learning to strum along with your favorite song, or in pursuing a deeper ...
