We will work from the bottom up, starting with proper breathing and warm up exercises.
Scale work and technical drills are made fun through games and other means to keep things interesting :)
Repertoire work will be chosen according to experience level after basic assessment, we can work together to find something you enjoy playing.
Basic theory and music history will be addressed naturally as we work through new pieces!

I am more than happy to work on any other music you are currently playing for school or other ensembles.

Let's have fun and work hard!

About Kristin
Hello!

I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.

At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs.
I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.

I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and
my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and learning from my students as well.

I am excited and thrilled by the opportunity to work with you!

Instruction for fundamentals and techniques of flute as a primary instrument (or doubling instrument) in both classical and jazz styles.

About Stephanie
Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with my Masters in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two professions, whereby one
feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard saxophone repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, saxophone/music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of the saxophone.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play saxophone. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie is a patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic educator and collaborator who loves to perform and teach. I had the honor of working with her for nearly four years while we pursued similar degrees at New Mexico State University. She consistently brought a level of maturity and preparedness beyond her age to our rehearsals and practices. If I was limited to only one word to describe her, it would be "professional".

My name is Gena Su. I am a music educator who graduated from Boston University school of music. In these two years, I built my own teaching methods for the age of elementary and secondary, also learned the strong foundation of music theory/history.

I majored in music education/ flute performance in my undergraduate. I taught flute classes during my undergraduate study. Most of my 15 flute students continually engaged in all kinds of music making. Parents and students both love the way of learning the flute.

My teaching philosophy is a student-centered teaching model. In my class, I, as a facilitator, but authority, hope to build a bridge that is connecting both teacher's music world and students' music world! Now, Let's have fun!

We will learn basic breath technique, fingering, and easy songs through playing the music games, drawing, and singing. Students will learn fast and be happy at the same time!

I offer flute lessons for the beginner-intermediate student, where together we'll work on scales, breath support, basic theory, and repertoire. Lessons should always be fun, so we forget that we're secretly working so hard!

About Alyssa
Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

A performance oriented school, DePaul University is where I had the privilege to study with Alyce Johnson of the Chicago Lyric Opera. I am a current graduate student at The Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. Lessons are always goal-oriented, and are focused on the fundamentals of flute playing and musical expression.

About Charles
As a graduate of The DePaul University School of Music, my performance program was rooted in orchestral, chamber, baroque, and 20th century+ music ensembles. While at DePaul, I had the privilege of studying with Alyce Johnson of The Chicago Lyric Opera.

Additionally, DePaul University's courses in pedagogy and orchestral repertoire, taught by members of the Chicago Symphony and San Fransisco Symphony Orchestras, have helped shape my teaching to accommodate all skill levels and various learning styles.

After completing school in Chicago, I moved to Boston to further my performance and teaching careers while pursing a Masters in music performance at The Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA.

In order to have a fulfilling plan, I believe that students should work at their own pace with guidance and support while setting realistic
short and long-term goals. With this process, students succeed, gain positive energy, and continuously improve. In giving students space, this method encourages vital components: independence, responsibility, and curiosity.

My goal as a teacher is to create an enjoyable, comfortable, and efficient learning environment for my students. All lessons are custom-fit for each individual student. Not only do I prioritize the learning of my students, I make sure that my students are comfortable and encouraged. The love of music is important to being a motivated player. It is critical that the student are enjoying the lessons. This is why I spend much of my free time customizing a suitable lesson for each of my students. At the same time, I am extremely organized in documenting the progress of all my students. I also make sure that parents/guardians are fully aware of the progress of their children.

About Dana
**During the Summer of 2018 I will be teaching in the Greater Boston Area on all days EXCEPT Wednesday, where I will be teaching in Lowell and Chelmsford**

I am currently the only flute instructor at the Chelmsford Academy of Music. I also teach lessons at UMass Lowell's Music Hall: Durgin Hall. I am currently a student at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I was accepted to the school as a Music Education major and recently switched to a Entrepreneurship and Finance Double Major with a Minor in Music. My love for teaching lessons have inspired my change of major since my ultimate goal is to own a music store and lesson studio. In my college experience, I have been part of the UMass Lowell Marching band, University Orchestra, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble. I also have experience as the director of the UMass Lowell's Flute Choir

I am a motivated flutist looking to meet new students to share my passion for music and flute playing! I studied Flute Pedagogy in Switzerland, where I acquired diverse tools and methods to better understand the learning process and to provide a motivating lesson with different music styles: from the Classical Flute repertoire, to diverse rythms from Latin-American countries such as Venezuelan Joropos, Brazilian choros or a nostalgic tango. The focus of my lessons is to discover new ways to express yourself through the flute!

About Ana Laura
I am a young professional flute and piccolo player from Argentina where I received my Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo.
My passion for music took me to Europe where I completed my post graduate studies with a Masters in Flute Performance (2012-2014) and a Masters in Flute Pedagogy (2014-2017) both from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts), in Switzerland.
I started teaching flute in 2009 in a national program inspired in "El Sistema" which provides music lessons for kids all over the country. Since then I have taught privately in Spanish, English and German to people of all ages, levels and from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
As a musician I take part in orchestral and chamber music projects in Argentina, Switzerland and since last summer in Boston as well.
Besides the importance of learning the technique to play the flute, what I enjoy the most is the unique opportunity to communicate with others through the instrument, through the music and without words, regardless of your level. I am looking forward to share this passion with you!
