My personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music. I have many resources and a vast library of literature available for my lessons that I have compiled through my years at Berklee studying with the world's greatest bassists and theorists.

My main goal in every lesson is to be as time efficient as possible. We start with introducing new warm up exercises or new approaches to playing the instrument with confidence and facility. This is important for students of all levels so we can learn the correct ways to execute our favorite music in the most efficient way possible. From there I always spend the most time on the student's goals, like learning a new song or perhaps theory and improvisation. My ...

I wasn't always a great singer, it took years of learning practice and persistence that I would love to pass on to you. My name is Sarah, I'm a current senior in the Vocal Performance program at the University of Michigan although I'm originally from Long Island New York. Music is my passion and I love sharing that with others and enabling others to spread their passion as well. I specialize in classical, musical theater and jazz voice but can definitely lend my hand at other styles! I am also a trained actor, a large part of my teaching method involves acting through the song to interpret the true meaning. If that sounds interesting to you, please reach out!

Amazing teacher! My 6 year old daughter has been taking piano lessons with Matthew for more than a 1 1/2 years and is always asking when she will have her next piano lesson. He is a very patient teacher and very knowledgeable of the subject. Matthew has a very kid-friendly personality and now, my daughter has been taking a few singing lessons once in a while, too.

"Ben has been working with our daughter since January 2019, when she turned 6 1/2. He arrives at our home on time each week and he works with her at an age appropriate level. We appreciate that he recognizes the effort she puts into the weeks when she practices often and he gently makes her aware when she hasn't practiced enough. He always speaks with her in a kind way and with us in a collaborative manner. We all want her to enjoy her piano experience, and we are thankful to have found Ben just a few blocks away from our home."

"Excellent teacher who is incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of music. His use of the "pivot system" got me reading music in no time. As with all lessons, practice helps move things along, but even when "life" got in the way, Dan always made great use of our time. I will probably start up with him again once my schedule clears."

"Although I was only able to have a few lessons with Laurel due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, I was extremely happy with Laurel's expertise and style of teaching.

I previously played the organ but had stopped for many years. She helped me get back into playing and provided new theory techniques that I had never learned previously.

I personally do prefer in-home lessons vs on-line. If there is a time in the future for in-home lessons to re-open I will definitely reach out Laurel to continue my lessons."
