About Richard
In 1999, I picked up a pair of drumsticks for the first time and have been hooked ever since. In 2006, I graduated Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Drumset Performance, having studied with Mike Mangini, Dave DiCenso, and Terri-Lyne Carrington, amongst many others. Upon graduating, I've had the privilege of performing with some of New England's top club and GB bands, as well as some original acts in various genres. I've had the honor of performing at functions for Fenway Park, TD Garden, and The Blue Man Group. In 2012, I recorded with the NYC-based rock band The Young Presidents, appearing on several tracks that included Corey Glover (Living Colour), Jake Hertzog (Montreux Jazz Guitar Winner 2006), and Adam Ezra. The recordings were produced by Rob Fraboni (Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan)
. You can hear me on tracks 4, 5, 7, & 9 on their album "Coalition".

In addition to gigging, I also maintain a steady private teaching practice. From 2009-2013, I was a guest instructor at Berklee College of Music's annual Percussion Festivals, conducting drumset masterclasses and ensemble classes with mostly high school aged youth. In 2012, I was a counselor/instructor at Camp Jam, working with high school aged kids on bettering their musicianship and assisting them in performing with rock bands. I've also conducted small summer camp masterclasses at Boston Drum Center in Acton.

I still continue to perform and record regularly around New England and parts of New York, as well as teach privately. I also play cajon on some gigs, as well as guitar, piano, and am currently working on writing some original music, as well as several fiction and instructional method books.

My son Noah is enjoying his lessons with Nathan. He thinks they are fun and he's progressing well. Nathan keeps him motivated with short daily "homework" practice sessions.

Nathan was great. My son didn't want to take piano lessons at first, but had completely changed his mind by the end of his first lesson. He said Nathan was "so cool" and he showed me all the things he learned in his first 30 minutes. We can't wait to continue his lessons.

My name is Ali Y, I graduated from Boston University with a master degree in 2017. Before I graduate, I started to teach violin and Mandarin in Takelessons, as you can see in my reviews, I have a very high rating since I started, every student like to play violin with me because I always can see their smile in the lesson.

I’ve begun to study in BU with Professor Bayla Keyes since 2015, in these two years, I’ve learned a lot from her, not only my violin skill but also a lot of teaching methods.

I got my bachelor degree in Renmin University of China, which is one of the best university in China. I had 24 students before I came to the States, several of them won the first prize in different violin competition.

I’m very patient. And I know how to commute with students. Most of my student can learn very fast and be very happy at t
he same time. I hope my student to love music instead of just playing the music.

About Gena
My name is Gena Su. I am a music educator who graduated from Boston University school of music. In these two years, I built my own teaching methods for the age of elementary and secondary, also learned the strong foundation of music theory/history.

I majored in music education/ flute performance in my undergraduate. I taught flute classes during my undergraduate study. Most of my 15 flute students continually engaged in all kinds of music making. Parents and students both love the way of learning the flute.

My teaching philosophy is a student-centered teaching model. In my class, I, as a facilitator, but authority, hope to build a bridge that is connecting both teacher's music world and students' music world! Now, Let's have fun!

We will learn basic breath technique, fingering, and easy songs through playing the music games, d
rawing, and singing. Students will learn fast and be happy at the same time!

About Bob
I have spent the last 35 years teaching elementary and middle school band in a community known for its strong music program.
I love teaching music to students.. especially the art of playing trumpet. I try to incorporate fun and enthusiasm in each lesson while accomplishing some short term and long term goals. The student is my ultimate focus during the lesson time. Sometimes my students arrive and have a total different idea of concepts or literature in which they wish to make progress different from what I had planned. We are always able to accommodate these shifts in plans while reaching our lesson goals.
I enjoy working with students in the middle school ages. I find that this is when they make the greatest growth. There is nothing better that seeing a child's face as the bulbs go off concerning musical concepts. I believe tha
t together we can reach great heights in your musical development. I invite you to try s lesson and make music meaningful in your life.

Dr. Mealey was the man who taught me my very first lesson on the tuba oh so many years ago. I have since had the privilege of performing professionally in over 40 states and 30 countries around the world as a soloist and as a member of Boston Brass. The years of private lessons I took with Dr. Mealey gave me the perfect musical foundation to eventually pursue my dreams.

I still remember how much he cared for every single kid in each of his bands. There are people who are put on this earth to teach and he is one of those. I can't imagine how my life would have turned out if it weren't for Dr. Mealey.

I can't recommend studying with him any more highly.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Mealey for fourteen years, first as a colleague and then as his supervisor. Bob is a very skilled musician and teacher. He has had many years of experience bringing his students' performance levels to new heights. He works hard and expects the same from his students. This winning combination has helped to create some very skilled musicians, with many of them going on to enjoy playing in ensembles for many years.

It was always a pleasure to watch Dr. Mealey and his students perform in concert. The looks of joy were always evident with everyone in the house - members of the ensemble, its director, and the audience.

You can't go wrong with Dr. Mealey.

Dr. Mealey had a tremendous impact on all of my children. He truly instilled in them a love of music and gave them an opportunity to really experiment and express themselves. Because of their solid foundation with Dr. Mealey, they played throughout high school and some even into the college level marching band! Dr. Mealey is a class act and knows how to connect with his students!

About Jacob
I am a professional songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and recording artist. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically Jazz and Music Production.

Music Theory students can expect to work each week on understanding core music theory concepts. Some of the practice each week will include analyzing classical pieces, and writing out exercises on staff paper, but a large portion of the lesson is about applying the concepts to contemporary music and even to original compositions by the student. I encourage students to explore how these concepts present themselves in the genres of music that my students are interested in. Understanding how an indie rock guitarist utilizes functional harmonic theory differently from a classical jazz artist provides context for the theory that I've found is usually lacking. Learni
ng theory is best when students are excited to practice them!

I teach beginner and intermediate piano students. I've been playing piano for 10+ years with a concentration in contemporary keyboard and musical theater. Depending on the needs of the student, we can work on sight reading and classical technique, or learning how to read chord sheets and tabs online in order to play contemporary songs.

As a professional touring and recording artist, I like to work songwriting into all of my lesson plans. For any student particularly interested in songwriting, I can make that a much larger portion of the lessons. Songwriting is a uniquely intimate art. Rather than tell a student how I think they should write songs, I strive to empower the student to be able to make the artistic decisions that they want. By making conscious decisions based on their musical knowledge, the student can grow his or her's own unique songwriting voice.

My personal passion is contemporary songwriting, but my own musical journey included many genres like Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Theater, and more. I would not be the songwriter I am today without all these different experiences, so my goal has always been to foster passion and excitement for the material any student is learning.
