I love working with Silvia! She is very encouraging and sweet. You can tell that she is passionate about playing music and believes that it is very important that you enjoy playing. She is working with me to make a curriculum that will give me experience with many different styles of playing to make sure I explore to find what I might like most. Silvia also takes time to make reference videos to use later in practice and helps me annotate my sheet music. She is a really great teacher!

Music college graduate, with plenty of experience in real-world musical settings and five years of teaching experience. When it comes to teaching I have plenty of patience and no judgment!
My goal is to help you define realistic goals and then, how to obtain them. If you are unsure of what your goals are, that's okay too. We can cover the basics and in time, find out what your musical interests are. However, I expect my students to work towards improving their skills by practicing a little each day, or as I like to say students need to be hitting the woodshed.
My lessons are tailored toward each student's goals but I always include certain topics. The core of my teaching involves a clear understanding of rhythm, scales, chords, and music notation. In addition, I enjoy music theory and always work it into my lesson. Personally, knowing the form and function, or the why of song structure is important for musicians to understand.
In addition to theory, we will work on ...

Just judging off our first lesson, it was great! I was really nervous because I haven’t tried to learn to play an instrument in over a decade, but I really enjoyed the lesson with Andrew and I’m looking forward to continuing.

I've been taking lessons from Andrew for almost 2 years now. He's a great teacher; he's patient, encouraging and accommodating. He builds a strong foundation for playing and understanding music by focusing on the fundamentals first and foremost. I highly recommend him as a teacher!
Gare
I came to Andrew as an intermediate-to-advanced level pianist looking to learn jazz piano. Andrew does a great job pacing his lessons to push new ideas and techniques without being overwhelming. He will also relate the techniques he teaches to how he plays in real life, which is extremely helpful. Andrew is very easy to get along with and is also very responsive between lessons. I'd recommend him for any skill level

Accordion:
I make accordion easy by first teaching one hand at a time . Once the student feels proficient we will begin to incorporate coordination between the right hand, which plays the piano notes and left hand which pulls the bellow and plays the chords. In no time at all the student will be playing accordion songs. I encourage the student to bring in songs they like want to learn.

Karen was great!

This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

"I have been taking accordion lessons from Rodrigo for about 6 months. I had never been successful playing a couple of instruments from long ago. I have now made great progress from Rodrigo's instructions. He helps me understand music theory, reading music, simplifying music, and how to charge my musical working memory. I have long been a collector of music. This is the first time I've felt progress and success."

"I've only had three lessons with Rodrigo but so far all of them have exceeded my expectations of a music instructor. Rodrigo is a great guy and accordionist. I like how I'm learning music theory along with my instrument because it will help me if I decide to learn more instruments. Thanks Rodrigo!"

"Grey hung in there even with all my connection problems. Then he taught me accordian information that I had been thinking about, but never knew the answer to before, because I have been out of the picture for so long. It was just the right timing from my 5 previous lessons. I am looking forward to my next lesson. I just need to get in enough practice time. My learning curve is in my hands now. Until the next lesson.
Thanks Grey"

"Alex is an excellent teacher. While he is a very accomplished musician he communicates in ways I can understand as a beginner. He quickly identifies areas I need to work on and both shows and tells me how to do that. He encourages questions as well as creativity that builds on the basics. He makes good use of the lesson time and is very encouraging. I can easily take what I learn in the lesson and practice it on my own. I look forward to my next lesson!"
