I earned MM in Jazz Performance, Bass Guitar Major, in 1993, and play/teach lessons for Bass Guitar since that time. My prospective students will receive rigorous training in both Bass Guitar performance and musicianship focused on the specifics of the subject of study. The level that we would begin lessons with will depend on the student's abilities and potentials. We will strive to create professional and friendly working atmosphere, and will begin lessons with careful assessment of the student's performing abilities; we will also set our goals, based on both individual expectations of students and on professional experience of the instructor. My teaching philosophy lies on three aspects; on patience with people; on love for the subject of teaching/study; and on rigorous training, offered to people, for their benefit and general musical development.

Hello, I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 19

Vasiliy is great! He's an amazing teacher, I know this because teachers usually get frustrated with me very quickly(I'm a slow processor and have some learning difficulties), but Vasiliy explained things in a way I could understand and never expressed anything but positivity and patience when I did get a bit confused or took extra time to understand something.
Overall, he's a really nice guy with a patient, calm, yet enthusiastic disposition, who is clearly very experienced in music and life in general. I'm an extremely nervous person and it usually takes me a long time to relax around a new person, but he's really chill and I felt pretty comfortable within a few minutes of talking.

I went into my first lesson frankly pretty terrified, and with almost no direction, and I left feeling uplifted with a clear path for pursuing music. The lesson exceeded my expectations by far, I would recommend him to anyone.

Karen was great!

This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

Bass is a key part in a song which helps the grove and pace. It could be as simple as playing the root notes and as intricate as playing arpeggios, modes, and sometimes soloing. I will teach you the fundamentals of playing bass either by yourself or with a band. We will work on drills, scales and learn other songs that are related to the genre you are interested in.

I love to help others discover the joy of playing the bass! I believe every person is musical and everyone has the ability to learn to play an instrument, no matter how young or old.

Our lessons will explore the concept of music as a language, and together we will work to build a musical foundation with the student's goals in mind. Lessons will focus on the student's musical goals and aspirations, and be personally designed for each student's skill and confidence level. We will utilize your favorite music to learn the basics of music theory in a low stress environment, and begin training in the art of group performance.

Feel free to send me a message with any questions. I look forward to working with you!

I highly recommend Josh to anyone who wants to begin or improve their bass skills. He has so much passion and knowledge to share, and he does so in a way that makes you feel entirely at ease. The way he explains music theory and playing techniques/exercises makes things so simple to understand and work with, even as a total beginner. Knowledge and proficiency aside, he's also a joy to learn from and talk to! Every time I have a lesson I feel more inspired and motivated than before. My only complaint is I wasn't learning from him sooner!

Josh is exceptional in playing bass guitar. His overall demeanor and musical prowess, coupled with his enthusiasm of constantly expanding his abilities, only adds to his reputation of being an excellent teacher. I highly recommend him!

"I have been studying bass playing techniques and music theory with Rob for several months now. Short story: he's great.

Rob's lesson format is pretty open. If you have specific questions/goals, Rob makes sure that they are addressed. He's been able to give me some great information on various techniques and styles, and I've picked up a good bit of general practical bass knowledge this way.

Rob is VERY knowledgeable about music theory, and its evolution over the centuries. That being said, discussions on music theory are always made relevant to bass playing. This makes learning the theory and patterns very practical, and for me, more approachable.

Thanks Rob!"

"Worth His Weight In Gold!!!

I've been taking lessons with John for over a year now and I've learned so much from his teachings. He has a way of making you feel at home and relaxed during the lesson. I'm partial to playing the Blues but, he has taught me how to relate the different scales to the different types of music.

At this time I'm learning how to read music and understand the theory behind it. The stage that I am at it comes down to practice. If I put in the practice I will be ready to play for that Jazz/Blues band that I so desire.

At the end of my lesson with John, he always find time for us to have a "jam session" be it Pink Floyd's "Money", Eric Clapton's "Sunshine of Your Love", or some good ole' down home "Blues", we get it done! John is a great teacher, musician, instructor and is as advertised!

"More then just bass lessons!

I went in to lessons with Peter looking for some review on theory and notation reading but I received much more. When I asked for a lesson on a specific subject he addressed exactly what I was looking for, as well as a quick history of the topics that we discussed. The combination of playing the bass, learning music theory, and music history, made these lessons very unique and a lot of fun for me. I would recommend Peter to any musician who likes a well rounded approach to music."
