Harmonica:
A free reed wind instrument used worldwide in many musical genres, notably in blues, American folk music, classical music, jazz, country, and rock and roll. There are many types of harmonica, including diatonic, chromatic, tremolo, octave, orchestral, and bass versions. A harmonica is played by using the mouth, lips and tongue to direct air into or out of one or more holes along a mouthpiece. Behind each hole is a chamber containing at least one reed. A harmonica reed is a flat elongated spring typically made of brass, stainless steel, or bronze, which is secured at one end over a slot that serves as an airway. When the free end is made to vibrate by the player's air, it alternately blocks and unblocks the airway to produce sound. The lessons will consist of starting at the very beginning with the basics of first learning how to breathe and make tones through multiple holes and then getting a sound from one hole. We will learn how blowing in or out creates different ...

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

I provide a clear, concise, proven path to success at playing the harmonica. I focus on the most important aspects at mastering the instrument. We also have fun as well!

About Tim

Unlike other teachers that teach multiple instruments and add harmonica to their list, Tim sole focus and expertise is the harmonica! Tim began playing harmonica at the age of thirteen. In addition to the guidance and nurturing he received from his musical family, Tim studied with harmonica gre

Tim's warm and inspirational approach to teaching has led to many insights about my playing. Tim's experienced background as a blues harp player, performance career, and music theory along with his most helpful guide "The Talking Harmonica," recorded audio tracks and YouTube videos combined for an easy and fun learning experience. I wholeheartedly recommend lessons from Tim to any aspiring harp player that has a love for the blues and playing the harp.

Tim did a great job for my first lesson. We reviewed the fundamentals and started working on the major and minor scales.

I've played harmonica since I can remember. Maybe since I was three or four years old. I played in 1st position until I was in my 20's because I didn't know there were other positions. I can teach 1st position but I rarely play this way in a professional setting. I will usually play in the 4th position. Cross harp or blues harp is the 4th position and I usually play this if I'm playing in a band. I prefer to teach in the 4th. I do not play the 6th position because if a song is going to hang in minors then I'll just play my fiddle.
