I enjoy working with most of my students, especially those who practice hard. I find all students unique and they response differently to my requests or questions. I feel that very often I need to react spontaneously to their responses. For the beginners I mainly focus on reading musical notes and learning correct rhythmic values. With beginners who haven’t played the piano at all I teach finger exercises written finger numbers only. Then I use Piano Adventures theory, lesson, technique and artistry, performance, and popular music books. Although Alfred’s and Bastien’s methods are well known, I prefer Piano Adventures because they introduce the coordination of right and left hand in more progressive manner. At the beginning the following will be covered.
• Postures at the piano, finger numbers, high and low on the keyboard
• Music alphabet, Intervals
• Musical form, Dynamic marks
• Staff; line notes, space notes
• Time signature, accent mark, legato, staccato
• Basic chords ...

I have various way to teach and develop students’ playing skills for both technically and musically! I had been teaching Oberlin College’s students for two years as a secondary piano teacher. I think a wonderful piano teacher is a main key for improving student’s playing skill in short time. Choosing a right teacher can lead student to the direct way of improving. Otherwise, student needs time to change their playing skills due to “wrong or bad teacher.”

About Xiaotong

I got Bachelor degree of music in piano performance in Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2017 with eighty percent of scholarship! I got Master degree of music in piano performance in New England Conservatory in 2019 with half scholarship! I had my recitals done all over the United States such as N

With a background in Suzuki method and Masters degree in music composition, I use my own method and curriculum that aim to give a thorough understanding of how music works and sounds as well as training the memory of songs and exercises, technique, and improvisation.

About Teri

I'm a professional composer, teacher, and pianist - and I like to keep active doing all three throughout my community. On July 31, 2013 TakeLessons featured me on Seattle King 5's morning TV news program - I taught a miniature lesson and discussed the impact of piano lessons on the brain. My piano

I love to help with all of the basics and then go from there with whatever specific genre or technique each student might be interested in! I do not rely on sheet music! I've learned the basics of sheet music in the past, but I've found so much more enjoyment and freedom in learning by ear and memorization and it really helps you to connect with the music and get a feel for it in the long run rather than always having to have a sheet in front of you!

About Wes

Hey guys! My name is Wes and over the last 6-7 years I've absolutely fallen in love with music. It's amazing to me to see that music affects every single human, no matter what specific genre they might prefer. And to be able to pick up and instrument and join in on it is such an incredible exper

"I have been seeing Karen for a couple of years and have to say that of all the instructors I have had, she is the best and most professional. She always has a smile and has always been very flexible with me. She had not minded changing times when issues come up. The recitals are great and she gives students extra assistance with group lessons. When there are events in the community that can help with music skills, she always lets me know. I would highly recommend Karen as your family instructor. The price is reasonable as well."

"I’ve been delighted with my lessons with Semyon from day one. I had studied classical piano as a child but took a hiatus of several decades, and was somewhat nervous about starting up again. Semyon has put me at ease, and is so enthusiastic and encouraging, it’s contagious. He also has a focus on technique that I was looking for (scales and Hanon so far, which I know I need!). He knows his stuff but doesn’t overwhelm me with too much too soon. As an adult student, I couldn’t be more pleased with my choice and highly recommend him."

"Having a strong musical background (20+ years), I was stoked when my boyfriend told me he wanted to improve his piano playing. Let me rephrase that--LEARN how to play piano. He had bought a piano three years earlier and never played it.

He had NO natural musically ability, barely being able to hold a beat let alone understand time and key.

He started lessons in Berkeley for three months and didn't seem to improve, then we found Fawn and signed up for lessons, even though I was skeptical about it being online. Within a month of playing, he was understanding the foundation of music, improv, ect., and Fawn REALLY pushed him. 15 months later he has a solid playing and reading ability, even though his work only allows him 1-2 hours a week of practice. Fawn is teaching both the fundamentals plus improve, scales, etc. that really push him to be a better piano player. She encourages him to chose pieces he loves as well. Soon they will start songwriting. I am thoroughly impressed."

"Stan is a remarkable instructor. Our daughter is 14, and totally engaged. She's playing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. How cool is that? Stan's music instruction is not limited to reading and playing; he has an amazing wealth of knowledge and experience that makes it so interesting for the students (and for the parent that sits in on the lesson!). I can't recommend Stan highly enough."

"Laurel taught my kids piano lessons for several years. When she moved away, she proved impossible to replace. She really cared about the kids' learning. For example, when my son seemed to connect better with the process and logic behind the music, she got him started composing his own! Both kids benefited greatly from Laurel's teaching and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a piano teacher."
