Maryam has performed in prestigious international music festivals such as Fajr International Music Festival and Monterey Jazz Festival(student) and have competed and placed in competitions such as Iranian International Youth Competition : Music Composition category(semi-finalist) and Music Association of California Community Colleges Composition Competition(2nd place in state of California) .
She has won a Jazz Downbeat Award with ARC Advanced Vocal Jazz Ensemble, was nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award(2016) and has
She holds two Associate Degrees in Jazz Voice and Music Composition from American River College where she studied with one of her biggest inspirations, Joe Gilman. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (music composition ,film music) from the California Institute of the Arts where she studied with Ulrich Krieger ( Lou Reed), Pirayeh Pourafar, Houman Pourmehdi, David Rosenboom, Larry Koonse , Miroslav Tadic and many more.
Maryam is currently working on her Master Degree from CalArts and also studying with Usher and Christina Aguilera through MasterClass inc.
Maryam’s musical style is derived from a fusion of jazz, soul, persian and classical music and inspired by endless number of artists. She has been the featured artist of the month in renowned publications such as GIRLTRIP, Muzik magazine, HuffingtonPost, DW Germany, POPDOSE, Obscure sounds, Girls underground, VENT Magazine, Celebrity cafe and many more. She is said to be one of Los angeles’s most unique and up and coming acts and has been compared to the likes of Sade, Dido, Natalie Merchant, Lianne Lahavas and Adele.
In 2017 Maryama Band was the winner of Acropolise Record's battle of the bands round one. Maryama's new music video/single “Where The Mermaids Are” gained spectacular feedback making it one of the artist’s most critically acclaimed pieces of work. Maryama’s upcoming record with the same name is scheduled to release in the same year.

I want you to improve. I want you to put time and be great at what you do. I truly love all my students and I want your happiness. As of teaching goes, I'll make sure to meet all your needs but it's you who can make a difference. I don't believe in talent , I believe in hard work and practice. everybody is born with the same blank canvas it's what you draw on it over time that matters.If you let me know that you have other things than music or you're maybe busy to practice a lot, I'll give less things to practice after every 3 month ( what I call a semester) you can choose songs to record in my home studio. I don't have a fancy studio but I have enough equipment to record and edit demo songs. I'd love my students to participant in talent shows and I'm always looking to put you out there in the real world of music.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COACHING: Using my insight gained as a counseling student, I am happy to offer my personal development coaching service. In this role, I help individuals develop their path of change, making sure motivation and focus is well-maintained. I provide a judgment-free and understanding atmosphere for one to reflect and process concerns as well as work towards making personal changes (e.g. self-actualization, career, anxiety management, lifestyle, life changes) from an existential perspective. I believe that such a space should be available for everyone, so I am especially happy to provide it.
My approach to personal development coaching is based on my therapeutic orientation called Gestalt Therapy (GT). The underlying idea of GT is that awareness is the key initiator of change. Awareness allows one to discern where such things as anxiety, unhappiness, ambivalence, etc. stem from. I believe that it is important for every human being to go through such a process so that peace and awareness within brings peace and awareness to the outer world. I am inspired by and influenced by the ideas of Carl Jung (Analytical Psychology- particularly the Psychological Types) and Carl Rogers (Client-Centered Therapy). I work with grade school students and adults. I am absolutely loyal to the idea of confidentiality; therefore, I ensure that information of anybody I work with is not at risk of being shared with a third party.
ACADEMIC COACHING/STUDY SKILLS: Using my passion for education and my insight gained in my few years (so far) immersed in the world of education, I help students (grade school and college) develop areas of their academic life needing improvement. As suggested above, I help students develop time management, learning strategies, coping strategies for anxiety, and motivation (i.e. help them to see the value of learning). Though it is a valuable tool, it is presently not a service that is offered at most schools in the area.
WRITING: As a lover of reading and writing, I understand the value of expressing thoughts, feelings and ideas. As a writer, my focus is on creative writing (mostly short stories presently) and essays. Given my undergraduate and postgraduate experiences, I have written many academic papers, in APA format and in MLA format. I edit and revise papers as well as help individuals develop their writing voice, develop their ideas, develop an approach to structuring writing, maintain consistency with writing and provide genuine feedback. Beyond that, my help with writing is limited to the goals of the the individual.
TWO IMPORTANT THINGS: I strive to maintain a positive collaboration with those I work with. I believe this is one of the most important parts of the process. Also, I promote the idea of Soul. To me, Soul is any sincere display of passion. With Soul, we perform in a most genuine and graceful way. I personally believe that whether one is playing the piano, writing a story, living life, singing, giving a speech or anything (necessarily peaceful), one should do it with Soul.
LASTLY, I am open to: Going beyond my travel radius, at an agreed-upon adjusted rate; working with multiple students, at an agreed-upon adjusted rate; meeting at a public place that is convenient, if it is preferred; and meeting at a student's location, depending on the preferred time and the distance.

It is my grasp of foreign languages that makes me an effective English teacher. For instance, learning the complex grammar of Latin and Greek gave me a thorough understanding of English grammar and the ability to relate to other people’s native languages. I have spent many hours proofreading papers for international students. They find my instruction especially informative because I not only fix mistakes but provide an explanation. When I point out the patterns of grammar, similar mistakes show up less and less, and my students feel more confident that they are writing sentences correctly.
I learned English teaching methods through my tutoring experience. Over a span of four months, I gave a Turkish visiting scholar a systematic overview of English grammar and allowed him to apply it through conversation.
Welcome to my studio, where I will instruct you in your musical and academic endeavors. What sets me apart is that I offer diverse instruction in two different areas. In my music studio, I give lessons in piano, violin, guitar, and composition. In my tutoring center, I specialize in Latin (learning from scratch and tutoring). I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers' Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.
My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU's Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.

Together with supplementary books, materials, and free-association, I guide the student through his or her own mental process to facilitate the expression of an idea; concept or theses. In addition to assigning homework or improvements for the student to work on his/her own piece offline, I help him/her revisit the manuscript with fresh eyes and rework the draft into a presentable, well reasoned document. In the case of a scholarly work, I help with the appropriate form for citations and asterisks. Lessons of one hour to 90 minutes in length are recommended.
