I've taught Spanish for several years now. Not only have I studied Spanish myself, but I lived in Peru and Mexico for several years, as well as traveled extensively around Latin America, gaining complete fluency. With a focus on conversational Spanish, I offer Basic (A1), Pre-Intermediate (A2), and Intermediate (B1 & B2). You will be able to have a full conversation in Spanish by the end of your first lesson!

About Jackie
Hi there! My name is Jackie, and I have nearly 20 years of experience in teaching. All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help all my students reach their goals.

The feedback I often receive from my students is that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they want to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience.

Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helpi
ng kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.

Right now, I’m working on self-publishing a Spanish conversation textbook for beginning students and am writing an intermediate-level Spanish conversation textbook. I've also written several academic articles published online. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy traveling, playing with my cat, and swimming.

UPDATE
02/2019 TakeLessons will be rolling out a new English language video series that I am in! I'll share the videos on this page as soon as they go live.

I am a native Spanish speaker who has been teaching and tutoring Spanish for about 5 years. My goal is to make learning Spanish enjoyable, and I want to help the student feel more confident expressing their thoughts and ideas in a foreign language.

My approach strikes a balance between grammar and verbal comprehension/ speaking skills. I try to lay a strong foundation that will help the student succeed on either the beginner or intermediate levels.
Many times students do a lot of written exercises but seldom have an opportunity to put into practice what they have learned. That is why conversation is such an intimate part of my class.

I understand the difficulties of learning a foreign language, and I'm very patient with my students. I carefully guide them from point A to point B, step by step. With this approach, I help them to discover how truly fun learning Spanish can be!

About Irene
I am a College educated native Spanish and English speaker who has been teaching and tutoring Spanish for about 6 years. My goal is to make learning Spanish enjoyable, and I want to help the student feel more confident expressing their thoughts and ideas in this foreign language.

My approach is student centered, incorporating grammar, verbal comprehension and vocabulary acquisition . I try to lay down a strong foundation that will help the student succeed on every level and eventually attain fluency.
I'm often approached by people who tell me that they took Spanish in H.S. or College and are frustrated because they can't understand a native speaker or communicate with them.
Most likely they learned the theory of the language but had little opportunity to put it into practice. That is why conversation is such a key component of my t
eaching. No one can learn any language without developing verbal and listening comprehension skills.
With me the student can choose their favorite topic and polish their conversation skills in an environment where it's ok to make mistakes.

I understand the difficulties of learning a foreign language, and I'm very patient with my students. I carefully guide them from point A to point B, step by step. With this approach, I help them to discover how learning Spanish can be truly rewarding !
