Bonjour & bienvenue!

French is my native language and whether you're a beginner or experienced French speaker, I would be happy to:
1) Teach you French from scratch,
2) Enrich your vocabulary & conversational abilities, or
3) Polish your accent to make you sound like a real French person!

***Important note***
I will have very little availability from May 9 to June 26, 2019 due to a job that will take me far from home.

---------------Frequently Asked Questions---------------

1- Are you interested in teaching total beginners?

=> Of course! Actually, a lot of my students are beginners. It's fantastic to follow their progress and it's interesting to adapt the class a bit differently for each of them according to their preferences and abilities.

2- What type of lessons would you recommend?

=> For beginner or intermediate level: 60 min lessons
=> For advanced level: 30 min, 45 min or more (100% conversation).
=> For kids: 45 to 60 min, depending how young and ...

About Meriem
I'm a native French speaker, but I do understand the joy & challenges of approaching a new language, as I also learned English, Italian and Tunisian (dialect of Arabic).

I moved from France to the USA in 2011 and my main job is being a costume designer specialized in opera. Through my work, I occasionally translate documents or help opera singers with their pronunciation & understanding of French lyrics.
I've also been teaching French privately and I would like to share my love for this language and culture with more students. Takelessons has been an amazing tool for this so far!

I'm looking forward to meeting you online or in my neighborhood (Andersonville in Chicago).

Merci et à bientôt!

I have studied French at the university level in both France and Switzerland, having completed university programs at the CEFR C1 level (Advanced) in both places. I have both taught in French and given many French lessons. I would be happy to share my French knowledge with you and get you well on your way towards conversational French!

About Emily
Are you looking to brush up your English skills or try your hand at learning French or German? I would be delighted to help you find your way in navigating these tricky languages.

Allow me to tell you about myself. I am a certified and experienced ESL teacher who has traveled the globe and shared her skills abroad. I have a bachelor's degree in linguistics from Boston University and a master's degree in the same from the Free University in Berlin, Germany. I obtained my TESOL certificate from ITTT in 2010 while I was volunteering in a refugee English class in Denver. The following year I taught ESL to foreign boarding students at a high school in Maine. While living in Germany I taught adult English classes at public community colleges and children's English classes at an after school club, as well as giving multiple private lessons. A
dditionally, I taught ESL to both children and adults at a private school in Switzerland. I have also volunteer taught at English camps for refugee adults and children in Lebanon. Like I said, I've been privileged to offer my skills all over the globe!

I speak both French and German fluently and can teach in these languages if need be, but mostly, having studied linguistics and other languages such as Russian and Arabic, I understand what it's like to be a foreign language learner. I studied the construction of languages and can easily break them down into their parts so that they are easier to wrap your head around.

My skills are not limited to teaching English only, but I am also an experienced proofreader and editor. I have edited myriad documents not only for private individuals but also in the academic and professional sectors. So if you need help with writing or are looking for someone to proofread your written works, I would be happy to offer this service.

Finally, as previously mentioned, I speak both French and German fluently and am happy to help beginner and intermediate learners to acquire these languages. Or if you just want someone to practice your skills with I can serve as your conversational partner! I love giving private lessons because that way I can connect with each student individually and tailor the lesson especially to meet his or her needs!

I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your linguistic way!

Simply amazing! Emily is kind, understanding, with a fantastic ability to adapt. I came to Emily with a slightly usual lesson request tied with a short window to do it. Emily responded to my request with open arms, questions, as well as a plan. She most importantly found material and we hit the ground running. Coming to Emily with a few handfuls of weeks and requesting basic/travel French to gear up for an upcoming trip to France I didn’t know what to expect. She blew me away with a smile on the first class, welcomed me, and got an understanding of my needs. Emily is tough, stickler for pronunciation, all wrapped with laughter and a kind way. She will keep you on track, praise when successful, repeat and repeat when you fall short. I’ll admit i’m a tough student, but Emily found ways to breakthrough. I walked away from my time with Emily with a great understanding of French, more then I expected language ability, and most important confidence for my trip. Thank you Emily, thank you!

One thing I love about teaching is bringing the arts into the process of learning. We may sing in the language and even paint to help learn. I've taught younger than Kindergarten all the way to adults, so feel comfortable that you'll grow in advanced conversational skills, as well as, beginner vocabulary. Let me highlight that I'm passionate about "phonetics," which is the study and classification of speech sounds. In other words, you are going to learn how to sound like a native speaker when you take my class.

About Loren
I'm an artist, musician, and language aficionada. I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Georgia, graduating with honors as a Magna Cum Laude in Spanish and French Linguistics. I am fluent in both languages. One thing I love about teaching is bringing the arts into the process of learning. We may sing in the language and even paint to help learn. I've taught younger than Kindergarten all the way to adults, so feel comfortable that you'll grow in your conversational skills, as well as, beginner vocabulary. Let me highlight that I'm passionate about "phonetics," which is the study and classification of speech sounds. In other words, you are going to learn how to sound like a native speaker when you take my class.

Why do I like to bring art and music into the learning journey? Let me tell you one of the biggest secrets I've dis
covered. Art and music can allow you to make a joyful memory, which takes the fleeting moment into the longterm part of your brain, causing you to remember more and put it into what you call "muscle memory" all because you're happy!

Speaking of the arts, I play guitar, ukulele, charango, piano, and I sing! I've been a musician since 2000, and I've successfully turned a hobby into something my husband and I have been doing full time for several years. For beginners, something that works best is taking a song that you LOVE and turning it into your anthem on the instrument of your choice. So pick your song and message me!

Last but not least, I'm a painter. Painting is my favorite part of any day. About my childhood, I can candidly say I had the best stepmom. She would let me take her enormous canvases, oil paints, and brushes and just let me at it. Of course at first they were all of my hand prints and rainbows, but she got me curious, and eventually we started going to museums. I've seen Vangogh, Monet, Divinci, Picasso, and many more as they toured through our city. I began to study their techniques and grow my gift. My "Mama Sue" gifted me a hunger for creativity and excellence, and I can't thank her enough. Painting with me, you will grow in your technique, skill, and confidence, and pick up a little artist history along the way.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping you accomplish your dreams!

I have studied and worked in different cities in France for several years. As a professional translator, interpreter, and amateur de la littérature philosophique française, I have a lot to offer students of all levels. I'm also in tune with the popular culture and can introduce you to the wonderful world of French-speaking pop, rock and ballads from musicians of France, Africa, and Quebec.

About Jean-Paul
Home-grown Mercedian back after many adventures! I'm eager to share my knowledge of Russian, French and the world around.

I began my career as a linguist in Russia, learning the language intensively on the street and in the classroom, while also teaching English to businessmen. Through connections, I was able to dabble in legal and academic translation.

I continued my education in France, mastering the language while also getting to sing in classical choirs and play oboe in wind ensembles.

I have most recently completed a teachers' exchange program with the French Ministry of Education. I taught 5th thru 12th grade in two schools in beautiful Lyon, France. I gave evening lessons to engineers and logistics specialists wishing to improve their English. Adapting to different teaching styles needed for each age group was challenging challe
nging but I have always enjoyed working with such diverse groups of students.

The many challenges I have faced have molded me into a resilient teacher. I plan lessons carefully but am quick to adapt to students' needs. I will be glad to help you meet your goals with your language-learning.
