Peter C.

Goodyear, AZ

About Peter

I began piano lessons at four years of age, and was blessed to have an amazing piano teacher, who taught me for 14 years. She gave me a passion to teach others and impart to them a love for music. I have carried on that calling and taught hundreds of adults and children over the last 30 years. I am very thorough in my method and customize each lesson around the goals and dreams of each student. I incorporate theory, ear training and technical into all my lessons, regardless of the style of music they are learning. This gives my students an all-round musical education and appreciation for this
wonderful gift they have in their hands.

I have experience in the professional music world as a pianist and french horn player, performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Opera Chorus and Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia, Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, as well as productions of "Cats", "Phantom of the Opera", Sesame Street, and touring all over Australia, U.S.A. and Israel. I have also been a part of the worship teams at Hillsong Church and C3 Church Australia.

I studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and also received my Licentiate Diploma from the Trinity College of London (L.T.C.L.) in French Horn (Teaching) and Licentiate Diploma from the Trinity College of London (L.T.C.L.) in Piano (Performance). So my experience not only comes from an inspiring teacher, but also from hundreds of performances on stages across the world working with the finest of musicians, singers, conductors and worship leaders.

I love music, and more so, love imparting it to others.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students come away from their lessons inspired and excited about their ability to accomplish their dreams. Whether it is to play 'Phantom of the Opera' or an Adele song, Debussy's Claire De Lune or Jingle Bells, I show them how to do it and help them get there. I am very thorough, taking no short cuts, but making it fun to learn an instrument. You will be amazed at what you are playing in three to six months!

My son has studied french horn with Peter for 2 years now, and he looks forward to lessons every week. Under his guidance I've watched my teenager excel as a musician, and I've grown to admire Peter's teaching methods. We drive halfway across town to get to there ... because HE'S WORTH IT. It's true that Peter listens to his student's goals. He has literally tailored the lessons around my sons auditions while simultaneously giving him the necessary building blocks to continue growing musically.

My son loves the lessons with Peter. Peter is a very good teacher and he is very consistent in making sure results happen. Peter is very good at pointing out my sons weaknesses and strengths and helps him to constantly work on them. We really like his direct and to the point style of teaching and think he's a great fit for us!

*** Lesson Details ***
All my lessons are centered on where the student is in his/hers musical development. I will in the first few lessons, assess the student's level and then proceed to recommend a course of study. I am process driven and always try to have my students understand my method so I do try to explain all my reasoning regarding the course of study I prescribe. Every student is different so I approach each individual with total respect for their unique ability and talent.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In addition to the standard music stands, metronome, tuners and music, I have digital recording equipment for student's audition recordings. I have helped college bound students get into serious music programs like Northwestern University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. For students ages 8 years to 9, I recommend the recorder as a introductory woodwind before Flute, Clarinet or Saxophone.

About Erin

I am an enthusiastic, caring, and patient voice and piano instructor. I am passionate about both music and teaching.
I began playing piano when I was 9 years, and began classical vocal instruction at the age of 10. I have been teaching both voice and piano since 2004. I received my Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy in 2013. I believe passionately in the healing and restorative power of music. My teaching methods are based on traditional practices and pedagogy while also incorporating my student’s musical preferences, and personal goals. My main goal as a teacher is to help each student
reach their highest musical potential while developing a life-long love for music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a relaxed and patient teacher. I use positive reinforcement in order to help inspire and motivate my students. I do expect my students to play and/or sing outside of lessons, but I will never make my students feel anything but proud of their accomplishments as a musician.
My piano students will learn note reading, proper fingering, posture and technique, music theory, chord theory, ear training, and performance.
My voice students will learn proper posture, breathing, vocal technique and alignment. They will also learn how to sing in many different styles, or if they wish we can focus on specific genre of music.
Within 3-6 months my students will have a much greater understanding of music, and will have developed a passion for playing their instrument or singing.

*** Specialties ***
I use many different method books when teaching piano and am most comfortable with the Bastien series and Alfreds. When teaching voice I draw on many different methods and am comfortable teaching classical, pop, musical theater, and jazz.

My 13 yr old son has been taking piano lessons with Jill for a few months. I have seen a tremendous improvement in his focus and confidence. He is doing well with learning to read notes and practices every day with out a reminder. I'm very happy with Jill ' s teaching style. We will continue lessons for the foreseeable future until she feels he mastered piano.
