Victor K.

Cincinnati, OH

About Victor

I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in June of 2010, studying under Dr. Roberta Gary. I have completed all the coursework for the Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance. I will receive the degree in late 2014 or early 2015 after performing one more solo recital.

I began playing the piano at the age of 5, later moving to the organ at 9. I have held a church job since then, working in multiple different denominations and settings. I have a strong background of piano, accompanying, theory, sacred liturgy, and m
usical performance. I enjoy studying and listening to many genres of music as well as performing them. I am very interested in historically informed performance and understanding different techniques as they are related to the composition style of different time periods.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. Regardless of your ability, age, or experience, I will work with you. We can work out a plan for lesson times, intensity of practice and work, and tailor the lesson to the right pace for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be tailored to the needs of individual students. I am not as much a fan of a strict curriculum that I use on each student. For beginners, one can expect to be given method books to get them moving in the right direction. As one advances, we eventually move on to repertoire. I take an approach to lessons that emphasizes total body awareness and high level mental awareness. The most important thing anyone can learn in music is that it isn't just about the right notes; it isn't about the right rhythm. It is about the complete musicianship and the complete awareness needed to truly understand and perform a work of music. In order to make this approach work, my strictness as a teacher varies depending on the level of devotion the student is willing to put forth. After six months with me as a teacher, expect to notice changes in the way you see music and comprehend your technique at the keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to purchase their own music. For beginners with method books, I have these available to the students to purchase from me.

*** Specialties ***
I am very highly trained in performance practices of the Baroque era, especially on the organ. I am also very specialized in body movement and efficient keyboard technique. I also have a lot of experience in the Romantic repertoire of the piano. Lastly, I am also well trained as an accompanist on both the organ and the piano.

Victor is an amazing teacher and we have loved working with him for many years now. He taught all 3 of my boys at all different levels and they all progressed very well in piano. He has also served as accompanist for my son who plays the trumpet. I highly recommend Victor as an amazing teacher for all levels who truly wants to help the kids learn.

Victor is gifted in teaching. I feel that playing the piano and teaching the piano are two separate gifts. Victor is gifted with both abilities. If you are hesitating because your not sure whom you would like to choose, choose Victor you will not be sorry.

Jon A.

Cincinnati, OH

About Jon

I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped. While doing this I attended The College of Mount St. Joseph where I studied Classical and Jazz guitar as well as Music Ed. In addition to my 22 years of private lesson experience, I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching general music in elementary schools. I believe it is my years as a s
tudent and instructor that enable me to be an effective teacher, having had learned what worked for me as a student, and what has shown to work as a teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I cater my lesson to the individual. I like for students to have a structured practice routine and working knowledge of music and their instrument, but it has to be fun. I have students who learn Classical, rock, and Jazz. Each lesson is different. Some people just want to be able to play their favorite songs by a camp fire, and others want to go on to perform at Carnegie Hall. I enjoy teaching both lessons and put forth the same enthusiasm for each one. You get out of the guitar or bass what you put into it in terms of learning and practicing. The level of achievement is up to you, I will help guide you to meet your goals regardless of how large or small they are.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Spare music room: guitars, amps, bass; computer with recording software, ProTools seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all the equipment necessary. I would like the student to have an instrument, but if not I can provide one for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I'm really pretty versatile. Over 18 years of teaching anywhere from 80 to 100 students a week will do that.

Margaret O.

Cincinnati, OH

About Margaret

I have taught the piano along with guitar and voice for over 40 years, since I was 16 years old. I started lessons at 9 and continued lessons while I began teaching beginners at a music studio. Since then I have had many different experiences with all kinds of students. I love sharing the gift of music with my students. My goal is to give them a wonderful musical experience and allow them to expand their knowledge of music in a structured manner and can grow to become a casual or professional musician.

*** Lesson Details ***
I adjust my teaching style to the students goals. I like to sa
y I am laid back but do expect progress each week. I can teach the piano for beginner to advanced students. Some students are college bound and need to learn the disciplines of music. Other students just want to learn to play for enjoyment. My main goal to to keep them interested and practicing. I use a composite of different methods depending on the students goals. I have found that each publisher of method books focus on different styles of music. Over the years I have picked the best of each one and we will use the best of the best. I also have edited music for students over the years and have a wide collection of supplemental music. As an example I love Disney music and a beginner after 3 months they will be learning "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. I can teach beginning Guitar students. My specialty is teaching to read "real" music as opposed to tab. Beginners need lots of TLC with the guitar because of the length of time it takes to make "good" sounds of the guitar. Learning good technique in a fun way is essential for good student progress.

Also I can teach beginning-intermediate vocal lessons. My main focus is developing proper vocal technique with vocal exercises and breathing techniques and still making it interesting and fun.
With all of this, i also teach music theory. Whether by itself or along with instrumental lessons, music theory is an essential for all musicians. Music theory is the how and why of everything we do in music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a baby grand, a spinet piano, 16 track sequencer, performance digital piano, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, flute, music stands and keyboard stands.

*** Specialties ***
For the piano I use a mixed method of teaching depending on the students goals. I have used Schaum, Faber, Alfred, Thompson and Bastien. I also use Hannon for advanced students and Duvornoy, Alfred and other types of pedagogy for technique and exercises. I have also edited many pieces of music for early beginners to have fun with. Disney is my favorite. I use these supplemental pieces along with the method books to keep their interest in practicing.

Margaret is an excellent piano teacher! Her lessons are upbeat, informative and engaging for my eight-year-old son. She interacts with him so well, both encouraging him and also holding him accountable for the techniques she has taught him. Assignments each week include a wide variety of scales, warm-ups and pieces so that he never gets bored. In six short months, he has gone from not reading a note of music to having a nice repertoire of pieces that impresses his friends and family--including his church organist great-grandmother! We are so pleased with Mrs. Osinski's lessons. It was an excellent decision.

Kate U.

Mason, OH

About Kate

I started teaching piano lessons privately while I was a student at the University of Texas. My students range from 5 to 14 years old, introductory to intermediate playing levels.

I have an extensive background in music theory including classical piano training, contemporary guitar, years of choir, and personal voice coaching.

I have a special ability to work with young and inexperienced students. I am the perfect teacher for a student that is just being introduced to the world of piano. I am also a great teacher for those students who have a light background but are just starting to be
re-introduced to the piano.

Kate has been teaching both of my boys (8 and 9) for about 18 months and really does a great job with them. She's very patient, and yet gets on them (in a nice way!) if they don't practice like they should. They have really learned a lot from her and respond well to her instruction. I'd highly recommend her for any young beginners.

We just love kate! She is teaching my 6 year old son, and after 5 lessons he can already play some simple songs and has learned so much. I'm so amazed at how much she has been able to teach him in such a short amount of time! She is fun and professional and my son is crazy about her! She is flexible and dependable and we are very happy with our decision to go with her. We have a younger son who just turned 4 so we opted for the in home teacher so we wouldn't have to figure out how to occupy him or keep him quiet at a conservatory while his big brother had his lesson. It is working out great! Thanks Kate! Looking forward to many more lessons with you :)
