Taryn L.

Los Angeles, CA

About Taryn

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, I have been writing songs since I learned to sing. At a young age I began to play piano and violin, training in both the classical and pop genres. I have been teaching piano lessons since I was 15 years old, when my own teacher had taken on more students than she could handle. Over the years, I have developed a passion and dedication for teaching music. I love to watch my students grow, and am elated to see the pleasure it brings to their own lives. Music is truly the universal language, and everyone should learn to speak it, in whatever form they desire. I am adept at finding my students weaknesses, and making it their strengths. After graduating college, I relocated to Brooklyn, where I opened my own private music studio, "Taryn's ...

I have been teaching piano lessons for all levels for 9 years and focus on the joy of learning music. Lessons are concise, fun and relaxed as you learn proper technique like finger exercises and conclude with playing a song of your choice. I use the Bastien Piano Basic Book Series for my lessons, as well as teach songs orally.

About LeAnna

Hello, welcome to my profile and thank you for taking the time to check it out. I am happy to introduce myself to you and share that teaching the performing arts is one of the greatest joys of my life. I am a performing artist and teacher in Los Angeles, teaching a variety of classes from music, dance and theatre. I graduated from San Francisco State University in 2009 where I received a BA in Classical Music, a BA in Dance with a focus in choreography, and a minor in Multi-Cultural Theatre. I have such a strong, well-rounded background in many styles because I value creative exploration. As a vocalist, I studied classical voice since I was 16 years old, trained at SFSU and La Universidad de Catolica in Santiago, Chile and consider that as strong foundation, but always explored ...

Julie L.

Los Angeles, CA

About Julie

Trained from age five to approach the piano with excitement and love, I have studied with piano professors from all over the world at the Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland. I love children and am patient, creative and intuitive. If your child is wiling to put in at least twenty minutes of practicing time, 5 -6 days a week, I will be patient, fun and excited every time they come in for a lesson - always tailoring their musical experience to their individual needs. I also now have experience teaching several adult students at different beginner and intermediate levels. I'd love for you to come in to my convenient Los Feliz studio after work for a lesson, you can walk to dinner or cafe, or a stroll in Griffith and do some of, what I call 'learning away from the piano.' :) Hope ...

Julie was filling in while the primary teacher was on vacation for several weeks. Julie was pleasant and was great with my daughter, Norah, 6 years old. The lessons were where we left off with the primary teacher and Julie did a great job with it.

Thanks again Julie!

Wonderful Teacher

I have been working with Julie for over a year now and I have nothing but great things to say about her. She is a fantastic teacher who has helped me expand my playing beyond what I thought possible. She really understands my playing goals and always gives me pieces of music that I enjoy but that continually push me forward. I feel very lucky to have her as a instructor.

Amazing!

Have you ever heard the expression, "those who can't, teach!"? Well you can disregard that in this case. As a newbie to vocal lessons; but as a veteran within the creative arts and business world, I can effortlessly say Keira knows what she's doing. With the educational aspects implemented, she helps you understand how everything works. Therefore allowing you to efficiently utilize your voice in a very fun and engaging manner.

I immediately walked away with a new sensation that I have never felt before, which was the amazing rush of singing in front of a complete stranger; and not in a karaoke type of way either. Even throughout the cracks and awkward pitches, I walked away having gained a new confidence and appreciation for singing. That's what it's all about!

So if you're seeking a coach - stop! - because she's not only a coach, but she is super talented to say the least and you'll have no choice but to become better when you soak up her knowledge. Not to mention, she's just a super cool person, so learn from her before she's too famous to have time!

How Often Should You Tune a Piano?

Just as you go to the doctor for check-ups from time to time, your piano needs maintenance and care throughout its life. You may notice, especially if you have a keen ear or a tendency to sing along with your practice, that your piano drops in pitch, particularly during the summer and winter months. This is because your piano is mostly made of wood, and your wooden soundboard will contract when the weather is drier -- or the heating is on! -- and cause the pitch of the strings to drop.
