Taryn L.

Los Angeles, CA

About Taryn

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, I have been writing songs since I learned to sing.
At a young age I began to play piano and violin, training in both the classical and pop genres.
I have been teaching piano lessons since I was 15 years old, when my own teacher had taken on more students than she could handle. Over the years, I have developed a passion and dedication for teaching music. I love to watch my students grow, and am elated to see the pleasure it brings to their own lives. Music is truly the universal language, and everyone should learn to speak it, in whatever form
they desire. I am adept at finding my students weaknesses, and making it their strengths.
After graduating college, I relocated to Brooklyn, where I opened my own private music studio, "Taryn's Melodies." I formed my own band, and played violin for The Anthony Mulcahy Band, where we opened for acts such as Glen Hansard and Mark Geary. In 2012, I was a featured artist at the Gealach Gorm Songwriter Festival in Kill, Ireland. I began working for Forbes Music Company in NY as a piano, violin, guitar, and vocal instructor. My debut album, "Too Happy For Love", released in February 2012, was acclaimed for "exhibiting a diverse and unique musical background, as well as a natural grasp of language and storytelling."

“I have been an educator and administrator for quite sometime, and am aware of the qualities that separate mediocre from good, and good from great. Taryn is unquestionably great. I am constantly evaluating teaching talent in private instruction, group instruction, and in public/ private school classrooms. It is not often that I find a teacher with Taryn’s ability, passion, personality, and commitment.”

-Forbes Music Company, NY

*** Lesson Details ***
My philosophy is that every lesson should be personalized to what the student's goals are. Music affects each of us differently, and therefore should be taught uniquely to that individual. Whether you want to become the next Billy Joel or Mozart, I can get you playing the tunes that you love in no time! I think it's important that you still get the same fundamentals and theory no matter what genre you're interested in, so that one day you can write your own tunes! I take particular care to make sure you make it through blocks of weaknesses, and get you back on track to reach your practice goals. It's all about making you the musician you've always wanted to be!

*** Studio Equipment ***
SV-1 Korg Vintage Stage Piano-88 key, Acoustic Guitars, Behringer Piano & Vox amp, violin, Shure PS-58 mic, ProTools, Blue Recording Mic

*** Travel Equipment ***
My own violin and guitar

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained musician with extensive experience in the pop/rock/contemporary genres, as well as jazz and folk music. I am a singer/songwriter, and love to encourage the students to express themselves through music.

Julie L.

Los Angeles, CA

About Julie

Trained from age five to approach the piano with excitement and love, I have studied with piano professors from all over the world at the Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland.

I love children and am patient, creative and intuitive. If your child is wiling to put in at least twenty minutes of practicing time, 5 -6 days a week, I will be patient, fun and excited every time they come in for a lesson - always tailoring their musical experience to their individual needs.

I also now have experience teaching several adult students at different beginner and intermediate levels. I'd love for you
to come in to my convenient Los Feliz studio after work for a lesson, you can walk to dinner or cafe, or a stroll in Griffith and do some of, what I call 'learning away from the piano.' :)

Hope to see you soon.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will teach you or your child to be comfortable and playful with the instrument, make practicing fun and foster a life long love of music. Using both creative composition approaches to the piano as well as beginning of sight reading, hand position and theory, we will work through songs in Faber's Piano Adventures books for performance, lesson and theory for kids, and the Alfred's Adult Piano Student for adults. I compliment our main workbook by including pieces that we find together, things you love, and for kids I also try to include some Suzuki method to train the young ear.

The student and I will have honest communication about practice and I will do everything I can to make sure practice is approachable, productive, fun, and easy to get done with for the day.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The home studio is in the living room in the front of the house. Includes a coat rack and small space for shoes. Very nice apartment.

*** Specialties ***
Most importantly - make sure a beginner is comfortable with the instrument! The first few lessons I play "improv" games where a student improvises on the keyboard in response to me naming a certain animal or automobile (ie, rocket ship or chipmunk). We then work on exercises to strengthen up, hand position, fingering and reading. And then we're off to the races!

Julie was filling in while the primary teacher was on vacation for several weeks. Julie was pleasant and was great with my daughter, Norah, 6 years old. The lessons were where we left off with the primary teacher and Julie did a great job with it.

Thanks again Julie!

Plus Julie's just a really nice person. I would absolutely recommend Julie as a piano teacher - she is the best!

Wonderful Teacher

I have been working with Julie for over a year now and I have nothing but great things to say about her. She is a fantastic teacher who has helped me expand my playing beyond what I thought possible. She really understands my playing goals and always gives me pieces of music that I enjoy but that continually push me forward. I feel very lucky to have her as a instructor.

Alex has been a huge help to me in both learning to sing and being a better person. He really takes the time to get to know and understand each student's unique goals and needs and then makes a space for creativity and art to grow.
He is also a true expert in music and his years of experience and schooling really shines through. He can pick up any song or musical style immediately and work with you on the type of music you find interesting.
I came in as a beginner and now have an ability to sing and use my voice that I really didn't expect. Highly recommended for students of music of all levels.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very fun loving person and believe in creating a positive environment where students feel comfortable to be themselves. At the same time I am a stickler for details and do not allow laziness. I believe a balance of fun with excellence has allowed my students to excel far beyond their own expectations.

My teaching style is individually based.
For vocal clients, I asses their strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan to build up their weak areas while helping them find "their own voice". I focus on breathing, intonation and control which I believe are the foundation of great singing ability. I use a classical Italian based program along with pop, R&B, jazz, and rock. I have vocal coached in many languages including Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.

For piano clients I focus on strength, dexterity and precision in fingering. I also help students learn to feel the music and bring their personality and touch to each piece they are performing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Tanisha currently teaches at her performing arts academy the White H Arts Academy. There are private instruction rooms and a lobby waiting area for parents and guests. Parents may also sit in the lesson room if desired. Private lesson rooms include a piano, speakers, and a music stand.

The White H Arts Academy also has two state of the art mirrored dance rooms with sound systems and wireless microphones for practicing stage performances or rehearsing for a big show.

*** Specialties ***

Vocal genres are classical (opera), pop, R&B, gospel, rock, jazz, blues and musical theater. I studied voice at Berklee College of Music. I lovvvvve Tanisha. She has this upbeat and vibrant personality; she's super sweet and nice. When it comes to singing, she has you pick out your own song that you would like to sing. She doesn't bombard you with songs and training that won't enhance your voice. I've already noticed changes to my voice and I'm only on my 6th lesson. Plus, she's not a teacher that watches the clock, so if she feels you need an extra 10 mins for vocal training, then you will exceed your time limit with no problem. She's there to help you and if I had to recommend a vocal coach, then of course it would be Tanisha Hall :)

No where else can you find somewhere like her.
From vocal technique to preparing for shows, she knows her stuff.
If you want not only want a vocal coach but truly a musical mentor, go to Tanisha.
Works fantastically with all ages also. :)

Amazing!

Have you ever heard the expression, "those who can't, teach!"? Well you can disregard that in this case. As a newbie to vocal lessons; but as a veteran within the creative arts and business world, I can effortlessly say Keira knows what she's doing. With the educational aspects implemented, she helps you understand how everything works. Therefore allowing you to efficiently utilize your voice in a very fun and engaging manner.

I immediately walked away with a new sensation that I have never felt before, which was the amazing rush of singing in front of a complete stranger; and not in a karaoke type of way either. Even throughout the cracks and awkward pitches, I walked away having gained a new confidence and appreciation for singing. That's what it's all about!

So if you're seeking a coach - stop! - because she's not only a coach, but she is super talented to say the least and you'll have no choice but to become better when you soak up her knowledge. Not to mention, she's just a super cool person, so learn from her before she's too famous to have time!
