Kay B.

Long Beach, CA

I've been teaching ballet for over twenty years. My ballet teacher was a Bolshi alumnai. He and his dad both danced for the Bolshi before they came to America. I teach a combination of Vaganova and my own updated style to keep my students interested in the style. I use classical music and pop to help students gain a love and appreciation for the style.

About Kay

I have been teaching Piano for 16 years now. I have taught students from age 2 1/2 - Adult. I was self-taught when I was a kid and begun taking formal lessons as a very young adult in my early twenties. I graduated from CSULB with my BA in Music with a concentration on Voice. As a Music major you spend a lot of time at the Piano. I became a member of MTAC in 2004 and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1998. I have a great passion for Music and a bigger passion for the Piano and sharing the wonders of how beautiful the Piano really is.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my opinion, piano is the hardest
instrument to learn but the most rewarding. If you can play piano you can pretty much play any instrument. I believe that a piano lesson should be fun. I'm a strict teacher with a smile and a giggle. I push my students to greatness while helping them love the piano through the good times and the bad. I'm a very encouraging but honest teacher. I compliment when warranted and I assess not so good performances in an honest but encouraging manner. I always let a student know that though their performance was not their best, they can and will improve. It's always only a matter of time. I use the Schaum and Nevin series depending on the student's personality. I teach Classical and Pop Music. It's important for a student to learn the Classics just as important as it is for them to play things they like. I find the happy balance between the two. I teach Beginning to Intermediate levels. I also like to incorporate Music theory into the lessons because understanding the mechanics of Music helps make playing and creating Music much easier to accomplish. A typical lesson will start off with a hand drill warm up. We then will move on to the lesson book and repertoire. Theory will be assigned as homework. I look it over at the beginning of the lesson and discuss it and answer any questions in the last five minutes of class. Baby lessons go as followed: 15 mins. of play time and 15 mins of Music theory. I like to keep structure in my lessons but sprinkle a little joy and laughter to keep the atmosphere light. It makes for a much more attentive Piano student.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have a Piano or Keyboard of some sort. I may provide music on occasion.

*** Specialties ***
Classic and Pop

Shaina S.

Costa Mesa, CA

I have studied ballet for several years and can teach beginning/intermediate students to help them excel in this fundamental genre of dance. We will work on placement, body control, posture, fluidity and strength.

About Shaina

I am a professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer who has a deep passion for what she does. I have been dancing for 18 years, teaching for 6 years, have a degree in dance from the University of California, Irvine, and am on a professional contemporary company, Entity Contemporary Dance. I have taught students of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels, in the styles of jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, and hip-hop. I have also had experience teaching non-dancers for special events such as flashmob events, weddings, pep-assemblies, and more. I am dedicated to understan
ding what each individual's goals are, however simple or complex they may be, and creating an environment that will facilitate their growth in dance. If you are looking for someone who is an expert in the field and is passionate about her work, you found the right person! I look forward to meeting with you and working with you!

Alexandra F.

Torrance, CA

I'm trained in ballet, jazz, hip hip, and dunham, and have taught routines and technique to people of all ages. Having a private tutor who knows your dancing and can work on improving specifics is honestly the most useful thing in the world for an aspiring dancer, so I want to have a personal relationship with every student to provide the best education for them.

About Alexandra

I'm 19, and an actress, singer, and dancer with 5-10 years of experience in all 3. I've worked with kids in multiple theater companies and dance studios, and I love teaching people and encouraging their love of performing! I'm happy to teach multiple students at once, and I can accommodate to any level of experience they might have (including none at all).

Nicole K.

Redondo Beach, CA

I have taken ballet classes for 20+ years. Dance is one of my passions, and ballet is my favorite style. I love the grace and beauty of the art form. I am certified with Dance Masters of America, and have taught dance for 3 years, and I am actively taking dance classes to stay in dance shape. I enjoy teaching dance and seeing students grow and improve as dancers.

About Nicole

Hello! My name is Nicole S, and I have been an elementary teacher for the past 5 years. Most of my teaching experience is with 3rd and 4th grades, and I've had some experience with 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th grades. I also hold a Master's Degree in Education. Teaching and working with students is all I have wanted to do since I was young. Teaching is my passion, and I enjoy influencing children's lives in a positive way. It is always rewarding to work closely with a student and see his or her lightbulb go off when they suddenly "get" a concept. I enjoy using innovative teaching strategies to
adapt my teaching to the needs of the student--whether they learn visually or are a kinesthetic learner. I develop great rapport with the children I work with, and I have been told many times I am a student's favorite teacher. This profession is very rewarding, and tutoring will allow me to help a student learn and grow in their studies and see that "lightbulb" click!

Nicole is a very caring teacher. She is careful to look on a child's ability rather than challenges. She focuses on the abilities and turns the challenges into successes by using each child's gifts.
