David is a wonderful teacher who makes learning to play music interesting. He seems to focus on his student's progress and lead them in the right direction. I am a current classical guitar student of his and he has helped me to prepare various pieces and scales for my upcoming college audition. I would highly recommend David to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar as he is very patient and a very skilled guitarist and teacher!

Arielle-Khrystiana P.

Lockport, NY

About Arielle-Khrystiana

I began my musical studies at the age of six, starting off in my elementary school orchestra and chorus. A passion and talent for the violin led me to placing in competitions and festivals, and performing professionally in quartets and at wedding ceremonies later in high school. I began performing in rock 'n' roll bands in 2008, and began a teaching career in 2009. My students and students' parents have praised me for my musicianship, patience, and compassion. I am also an operatic soprano and musical theater musician, thus making me a diverse and well-rounded instructor. I teach in the tradi
tional style, combining some Suzuki elements. For beginning voice lessons, we will focus on vocalizes, theory, and appropriate repertoire. I take a different approach to every student, realizing that not everyone learns the same, and that what may work for one student will not work for another. I am dedicated to assisting the musicians of the future. I firmly believe that being performer assists me in my teaching, because I can give my students the benefit of my performance knowledge and experience, preparing them not only for school concerts and NYSSMA festivals, but also other arenas, such as performing with rock musicians or in theater pits to earn extra cash after high school. I enjoy working with all ages, 3-83. I'm excited to meet you and assist you with the adventure that is learning classical violin! I am also available for English diction coachings on your arias and art songs.

*** Lesson Details ***
A combination of traditional and Suzuki techniques. Each lesson is uniquely tailored to fit the student's personal/musical goals, learning style, and skill level. Voice lessons will focus on healthy vocalism, beginning theory training, and sight-reading skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Many books on music history and theory, electric piano, clean, friendly atmosphere that is perfect for making music in!

*** Specialties ***
Classical violin, classical voice, basic theory.

Violin
Wonderful results, and a lot of fun!

If you're looking for someone to start the violin with, look no further than Arielle D. She can start you from the ground up, even if touché never read or played music a day in your life. She will try different approaches if the standard book stuff isn't working. She's also great with scheduling, very easygoing with make-up lessons. She also made me feel very comfortable and relaxed during my lessons.

Antonella has been teaching piano to my two daughters (ages 8 and 12) for a number of years now. They have progressed terrifically during that time and really enjoy learning from her. She has a gentle approach but also keeps the girls focused and accountable which is important. They have had multiple opportunities to perform in recitals and competitions that are always enjoyable as well. Antonella is a excellent teacher that I would highly recommend.

My 7 year old daughter started taking piano lessons this year with Antonella. I am amazed that within such a short period of time she has learned so much. She has progressed from 'Mary had a little Lamb' to really beautiful more complex pieces in what seems like no time.
Antonella is a really excellent teacher, very patient and supportive, yet constantly pushing (gently) to make the student better. She is an incredible pianist herself and really encourages Aoife not just to learn and play the notes, but to really use good movement and techniques which make such a difference to the sound of the piece.
Antonella is professional, committed, highly skilled and very passionate about what she does. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her as an amazing piano teacher.

Lena is a very gifted teacher and I recommend her without reservation for both child and adult learners. Her greatest strength is her learner-centered instruction.

You can rely on Lena to turn up on time, be prepared with lesson hand-outs tailored to your needs, make lesson time fun, provide age- and skill- appropriate instruction and be kind, patient, and encouraging.

Lena is reliable, flexible with lesson scheduling and easy to contact when needed. Her knowledge of music theory is impressive as is her understanding of the physics of music production. She is also an excellent clarinetist.

I began studying with Rick when I was 19 years old and spent three years as his student before moving to Chicago in 2001. In those very important three years I received an education that would help lay the groundwork for all of my improvisational endeavors to come.

I remember that what he was asking me to practice was fairly difficult, as the topic of improvisational technique and Rick's specific methodology is massive. There is so much to it that I still find myself practicing with those very same concepts in different ways of my own today more than fifteen years later. Rick was always smart about how much work he would give an individual.

It must also be said that Rick Holland is more than just a music teacher or great trumpet player. He was a mentor and helped me grow personally and musically. As I look back upon those lessons, I understand now that the real objective of that methodology isn't just to play chord changes with good voice leading or add interesting control of chromaticism in the lines: The point of all of it was to get me to think musically and think for myself. In a culture where music education (especially in jazz improvisation) has turned into painting by numbers, his approach is refreshing, creative and crucial for developing intelligence and musicality.

Trumpet · In studio
I played the trumpet from fourth grade through college but I didn't have much in the way of formal individual lessons during that time. After college I didn't touch the trumpet for over 20 years, when I decided to pick it up again as a ‘comeback’ player. While playing in a couple of local concert bands I decided I really wanted to be a better trumpet player, and take lessons from an experienced teacher as a way to reach my goal. Rick assessed my abilities and came up with a personalized lesson program to help me improve all aspects of my playing. We went ‘back to the basics’ in some areas and built on my existing abilities in others. I’m very pleased with the results and I enjoyed my instruction time with Rick. I would highly recommend Rick to any trumpet player at any level of experience.

Rick H. is a phenomenal musician, educator, and person. I studied with Rick for four years, and have remained in contact with him for nearly two decades. I learned a great deal from Rick, particularly in the areas of harmony, voice leading, jazz history, trumpet pedagogy and intonation. So many of my current musical concepts go back to my time as Rick's student. Rick has a very systematic, step by step approach to learning that is tailored to the individual student. I work throughout the Midwest as a professional trumpet player, and am extremely glad that I received my foundational training with Rick. I highly recommend Rick Holland to anybody wishing to study the art of trumpet playing or improvisation. The knowledge that you will receive from this man will last you a lifetime!
