About this class

Do you have some background in musical theatre and have you been belting for a while now? Have you sung a few roles and are wanting to take your belting to the next level? Are you hoping to extend your range or try out a new piece that's more challenging? In "Advanced Belting", we will cover some advanced vocal exercises to increase stability and range, talk about choosing rep that's challenging and how to sing it healthily, and practical tips and tricks to take our belting to a more advanced level. Please bring in a short excerpt (32 bars or less) to try out with the instructor if you are comfortable.

Note: This class is designed for people who have some experience belting and have studied voice for a while. If you are new to belting and want to know more, please check out my "Belting 101" class!

About Miya H.

I am a professional musician currently residing in the Chicago area, attending the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University ('21) where I am receiving my Master of Music. While at Northwestern I've sung operatic roles such as La Messaggiera in L'Orfeo, Dorabella in Cosi fan Tutte, and covered Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus. Music is my biggest joy and passion and I absolutely love to share it with others. I have been teaching music lessons in one on one and group settings (voice and piano) for over 7 years and am a professional musician trained in piano, classical voice, and musical theatre. I hold a Bachelors with honors in music in addition to achieving my masters and have sung with a wide variety of local musical organizations including Vashon Opera, and the Olympia Symphony and have placed and competed in several national organizations including NATS and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Music lessons are a great way to focus on different elements of technique and musical expression. I am comfortable teaching all ages in all genres at all skill levels and tailor each lesson and curriculum to fit each student's specific needs. I love helping people achieve their goals with a variety of skill sets and techniques, combined with warmth, encouragement, and humor.

Some genres I teach in both instruments include opera, classical, pop, contemporary, musical theatre, basic jazz, praise music and more. I look forward to working with you!
