We also focus on:
& Playing what you hear/ playing by ear
Actual materials and books I use:
Alfred d'Auberge Book One
Alfred's Basic Piano Library Book Level 2
The Secrets to Playing Piano by Ear, by Jermaine Griggs
+ other hand out materials
*Note: Students are not required to purchase any materials.
Any capable young child who can read, or adult can pick up these materials and learn on their own, but there are great advantages of having a teacher. Such as; bypassing unnecessary information, multi-dementional learning ( hands on, audio, visual), not to mention strategic planning by someone who understands your goals and cares about your progress.

I have been playing the piano for the past 20 years or so. It was my first instrument, and in many ways I feel most at home sitting at the keyboard. Piano lessons are beneficial in an infinite number of ways: fine motor skills are developed, language is re-evaluated, and the craft is creatively and artistically satisfying. I have been teaching for the past 5 years, and my piano students always seem to grasp the "macro musical picture" most effectively. We begin by learning the foundations of technique and rhythm- I like to use the Faber method books for young students, and the Alfred method books for adults, but I cater to each students individual needs. As time progresses, it becomes much easier to focus on one style or genre more specifically (i.e. jazz or pop music). After a few months, the student has enough musical understanding to practically apply it to music he or she really enjoys playing.
Hello students and parents! I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia who has been studying music for 17 years. My first instrument was the piano at age 6, and I began playing percussion in my middle school band when I was 11. My deep love of music drove me to pursue a Bachelor of Music Performance degree, which I earned Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 2012. In college, I studied percussion with Tim Adams, retired principal timpanist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Music (and especially percussion) is an exciting and enormous world that I am eager to share with you, either at your home or in my studio. I am a patient, funny, and outgoing teacher who caters to your specific needs as a student. While I have studied classical music for many years, I also offer lessons ...
I have been teaching private piano lessons for ten years. My students perform in an annual recital and many have played for their school holiday program. This year, I began offering my students the opportunity to play in local festivals where they earn a score and rank by level. I teach my keyboard students to play through singing the melody and finding the matching tones on the keyboard. I use the Musikgarten curriculum as well as the Piano Adventure series for my private students. In both private and group lessons my students learn to play the same music in different keys. This demonstrates how well a student is using his or her ear to play the melody. My students read and learn to write music through our theory time in our lesson. I continually aim to provide my students with additional skills on the piano. We evaluate what is being learned by it's form and key. I include repertoire beyond our method books and help my students play music they know but don't have music for.
I have been teaching music to young people since 1987. I began as an elementary music specialist and taught in public schools for thirteen years. After starting my family, I began to teach part time as a Preschool music and movement teacher and private piano instructor. I now have fourteen years experience in this field. In the fall of 2013 I added a group keyboard class to my schedule for young beginners. This experience has given me firm footing for approaching music students of all ages. Students respond positively to the excitement and beauty of making music. During every piano lesson I aim to help the student play musically and beautifully. We listen to different styles of music and use expressive technique to recreate that style. My piano studies began in the first-grade.
