Kyle K.

Cleveland, OH

About Kyle

I love music! To me, it's a way of life. From listening to playing to writing and of course teaching. I grew up with music at school and home. My dad was a piano player and teacher so music has been a part of my life since day one and I want to share what I have learned. Everyone has a unique musical talent and I enjoy helping them find it. I believe that anyone can be an excellent musician. Playing an instrument should be a fun and creative adventure. Whether it's strumming at home, playing out in the clubs, or writing the next big hit, I will do my best to get you there!

My musica
l life began when I was in 5th grade and my dad bought me a saxophone, which I played for over 10 years. I quickly learned how fast I could improve if I simply kept playing. When I hit my teen years I fell in love with rock music and mowed enough lawns to buy my first guitar. I jammed and wrote songs with many other musicians and several bands. We played countless shows and released a few albums. Now I write music for TV, Film, Video Games, and other media outlets and I'm having a blast!

I started teaching 7 years ago and found that it is one of my favorite things to do. Helping others grow into great musicians is rewarding and fun. I've learned that from grade school to retirement, each student is a unique and special individual. My lessons reflect that fact so that we can reach all your goals together. *My personal goal is to get my students to understand and write music that will stay with them and encourage them to continue.

All lessons take place in my fully operational Digital Recording Studio and dedicated lesson room. Gaining real world playing experience through technology is a definite advantage over traditional lessons. This also allows us to capture ideas when songwriting and provides a unique practice experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
Everyone is different, and every lesson should be suited to fit the individual.

Depending on the type of lessons (guitar, bass, music production, theory) the style teaching will be very different. It's all about YOUR goals and needs. I will get you to where you want to go!

Each student is going to receive lessons based on their preferences of genre and style of music they desire to play. I expect my students to practice regularly and have a good time as their abilities and knowledge grow. By working together, we can focus on goals and problem solving to get you to the next level of play. Most importantly, we are going to have a blast while we learn to play music!

Imagine looking back years down the line, listening to something you wrote and hearing the improvements and your own personal music history. That's what writing and recording as you learn is all about.

*We'll start slow and build your knowledge base with each lesson.
*You can expect to understand what you are playing AND be able to Write Your Own Songs.
*You will be given everything you'll need to succeed.

I have several reference books, videos, and charts; plus I can show you smart phone apps and websites that will help you learn and practice! We will learn songs, write songs, and record songs. I provide jam tracks for all my students to play along too and offer to record their own music for the same purpose. We also keep a running journal that we use each week. This allows the student to look back, see improvement and be encouraged to continue!

Within 6 months you can expect to understand how songs are built (including chords and scales), be able to play several, and feel comfortable with trying your own skills as a songwriter or guitar player.

Let's start playing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Comfortable and fully operational Digital Recording home studio & music room w/ recording capabilities, computer, keyboard, amps, books, videos, various guitars and bass, tons of music to listen to and study, FREE Wifi and seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not travel. My studio is the #1 advantage for learning!

*** Specialties ***
*Instruments: Rock, Blues, Metal, Indy, Folk and Acoustic styles.
*Production: Recording, Mixing, Mastering, Programming.
*General Music: Theory, Songwriting, Producing.

I personalize all my lessons for the students needs and interests. I use several different reference materials including: The Ultimate First Guitar Book, The Guitar Handbook, Shredding Guitar, Guitar Solo Strategies, and more. All my students learn theory and how to use it in song play and songwriting. I have them write short songs, record them, and finally use those songs to jam out their scales and use theory.

Keith P.

Olmsted Falls, OH

About Keith

I specialize in teaching and performing Country, Blues, and Rock n Roll (to name a few) along with a variety of other musical styles. Because of my experience and educational background, I am able to help my students learn what they "need to know" in order to play the songs they want to play. Students will benefit from my unique teaching methods. I won't waste any time learning things that don't apply to your personalized objectives. You tell me what you want to be able to do and I will teach you what you need to know to get there.

Here is some more information about my experience and educa
tional background.

I've been a working musician almost my entire adult life. I’m a student of the guitar as well as a teacher.
Here is a little about my background. I started teaching guitar lessons to a few students in my home in 1978. Wow can’t believe it was that long ago. That led me to teaching private guitar lessons at two different music stores as well as guitar class for an adult continuing education program. After a run of 15 years and graduation with a Masters degree in Adult Learning and Development I became a serious student of the guitar studying around the country and in Canada. During this entire time I performed as a working musician in several bands. I’m currently the leader of three different musical groups performing locally and mostly on weekends. I have a easy going personality and a user friendly teaching style tailored to the students individual needs. But most of all I just enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge and experience with others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I can teach a student how to:
Read music and tablature
Form and play chords needed to play songs
Music Theory and ear training
Good Timing
Proper right and left hand technique
Both Lead and Rhythm techniques
Acoustic and Electric guitar
And I can help the experienced player break bad playing habits and advance to higher levels of playing.
I like to incorporate visual and audio aide as well as demonstration when I teach.
I use all or part of these teaching methods and more in order to enhance the learning experience. I always base my instruction on the needs, abilities and goals of the student..

*** Studio Equipment ***
Basement studio w/ guitar, amps, keyboard, pa system, vocal microphones and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
Country, Blues, Light Jazz, Classic Rock, Motown, Soul. Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Soloing, Chords and progressions and reading music and preparing for performance. Vocals and Guitar.

Keith is definitely a great teacher! He knows all the theory but he uses it the very best way....to teach you to PLAY the guitar. Everything is directed at PLAYING the guitar. No time is wasted on "nice to know" vs "need to know." He's always been in a band (as he is right now) so he knows the ins and outs of actually playing the instrument. No fluff....just learning.

I couldn't be happier with Keith. He explains complicated concepts in techniques in a way that's easy to follow and implement with that day's lesson plan. He clearly lays out the origin of how certain notes and chords were developed in order to give you the full picture of what it is you're practicing.
He's very laid back and patient and a joy to work with.

Enthusiastic presentation of music theory, concepts, and practice. Empathetic and patient, Keith has taken the time necessary to learn my taste in music, goals, in music, and purpose for pursuing music. A comfortable studio in his home has proven to be a positive learning environment. He also has introduced multiple styles of play to inspire me to explore expanding myself with the guitar.
It was required that a college syllabus was to be followed to meet credit award. Keith was able to instruct guitar in a manner which allowed this student to retain an interest, expand desire, and maintain discipline necessary to continue playing. By integrating music theory and notation into practice, Keith was able to clarify expected requirements to meet the demands of a college syllabus. Utilizing computer technology, lessons have been enhanced as well. This has also nurtured the continued learning desire. I would recommend Keith as an instructor to accelerate anyone's ability to play the guitar.

Brian W.

North Olmsted, OH

About Brian

Brian has strong and diverse musical experiences to share as a teacher of piano beginning to intermediate), bass (all levels) and guitar (beginning to intermediate). He has also worked successfully as musical director, studio/touring musician, arranger and piano technician. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Brian is now based out of North Olmsted, OH.

As a teacher, Brian has taught privately for over ten years. Many of his students have gone on to forge their own successful, musically inspired careers. His local arts and charitable affiliations in Northeast Ohio are extensive.
In September, 2008 he affiliated his bass instruction studios with Royalton Music Center (North Royalton, OH)
and Studio 42 (Brunswick, OH). Through his work with the "Moss Stanley Trio" as "Cats On Holiday" Brian has provided extensive, "approachable" musical performance workshops for the Cleveland Metroparks and dozens of schools and libraries throughout NE Ohio. Not given to musical prejudgment, he instills confidence in his students as they prepare to take the stage, whether it is Severance Hall or the American Legion Hall.

As a recording artist, touring musician and perfomer, Brian has backed such legendary and diverse entertainers as American jazz greats Lionel Hampton and Doc Severson ("The Tonight Show"), children's programming pioneer Sheri Lewis (& Lamb Chop), Actor McLean Stevenson (M*A*S*H). He has performed extensively in Asia and the Caribbean. His studio bass, vocals and narrative can be heard on numerous CDs, most recently for Cleveland's own Cats On Holiday ("Workin' Man", COHTONE Records, 2007). Brian works in a scalable performance format with the Nitebridge Entertainment Group and is a first call bassist for regional performance and session work.

Brian's training began at age 3 with 18* woofer speaker and Ella Fitzgerald record. At age 9, he began his formal training on string bass in a progressive public school program in Prince William County, VA. He was fortunate to have excellent, dedicated teachers who brought out the best, including two years of private piano instruction. He taught himself bass guitar and at age 15 was selected to perform for the President as part of the American Bicentennial. With guidance from band director Roger Meyer, he co-arranged his first work for jazz orchestra at 17 and was tapped to perform for two seasons as a
bassist/vocalist for Kings Dominion (a Paramount corporation) theme park. He also interned as a production assistant and stagehand for the summer concert series. He continued his study of bass at ACU in Abilene, TX. Brian commuted to Denton, TX periodically for private instruction on upright bass with Master Teacher Dave Stone (Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand). Brian was a
member of the San Angelo (TX) Symphony and the Abilene Philharmonic. He is dedicated to a lifelong study of music theory, arranging and instrumental performance.

In teaching situations, Brian is noted for his patience, resourcefulness, thoroughness and his innate sense of approach to convey ideas. In the studio, he is appreciated for his relaxed and professional demeanor. His ability to balance creatively rhythmic lines with his one take, on the mark sight reading keeps him in demand.

*** Lesson Details ***
Brian enjoys teaching students who want to learn and want to improve. My credibility of experience ("street cred"), laid back but thorough style combined with the knowledge of what methods work. I am patient but highly goal oriented to what motivates the student learn. I like to try new things, challenge old concepts and continually improve. I expect the best from my students by helping them see the best in themselves. They don't disappoint.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, Guitar (electric and acoustic), Upright Bass, Electric Bass

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained but also adept in improvisation. I play and teach all styles of American and Western European music, including but not limited to rock (classic, alt, metal), r&b/soul/funk, latin and Afro Cuban, popular/show, and contemporary Christian.

He's really excited about what he's teaching and he knows alot about music theory and the fretboard. He may need to slow down for me and stop referring to the notes until I actually catch up which may be longer. I really was excited to learn the things he taught but my fingers aren't catching up. That is also slowing down what I learned at first. He went out and got a requested James Taylor book for me that had TAB that I had never seen before and now I can relate it to what he's teaching. I also have a scales book that goes two octaves. Brian suggested learning one octave so that I can really know the notes.

Brian is an excellent teacher and works well with our son. He has helped him develop new key skills on the double bass, as well as gain confidence on the more challenging pieces his orchestra is taking on this season. On a personal level, Brian is very friendly and does a great job communicating both with our son and ourselves. He makes us feel at home, and our son enjoys working with him. We are looking forward to our son really growing through these lessons. I would highly recommend Brian to other students.

Our son took piano lessons from Carey for 2 years & enjoyed every minute that he interacted with Carey. He stopped taking lessons due to time constraints only. Carey is very gifted musicality and very patient with his students. He definitely works with the student that is in front of him, selecting pieces that are enjoyable for the individual to learn. He even worked with our son on some compositions that our son was writing. I would definitely recommend Carey to anyone who is seeking a piano instructor.
