Farobag C.

Orland Park, IL

Specializing in a broad array from arithmetic through Calculus. Lessons may also be arranged via Skype.

About Farobag

Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastma
n School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

*** CD's***
Classical Energy, Triton Sound, TS 8501
Salut D'Amour, Triton Sound, TS 9014

I have had the pleasure of taking vocal lessons from Mr. Cooper for about 2 years now, as well as starting Suzuki piano not too long ago. He is a gifted teacher who truly has a passion for teaching and love for music! Not only has he improved my aural skills, but he has helped me understand music on a much deeper level! My knowledge of technique and overall musicianship has improved drastically while taking lessons with him. Mr. Cooper has challenged me and broadened my musical horizons. He has helped me advance and learn new technique on the piano, as well as expanding my vocal range and performance skills. I would highly recommend him!

Benjamin K.

Chicago, IL

I have been teaching math for several years now and understand the need for a good foundation. I work with students to find any concepts they have missed or do not fully understand. My goal in teaching math is always comprehension not grades. After laying a good foundation, it is amazing to see the improvement and success my students have had!

About Benjamin

I have extensively studied vocal performance and opera for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master's vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have studied other vocal genres, such as jazz, rock, and pop. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the U.S.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-ti
me high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.

Celeste C.

Chicago, IL

The public school system of today requires individuals to function as a different kind of educator. They need teachers who will not only teach, but will also inspire and lead. Moreover, they need administrators who understand the different relationships between students, parents, and schools. As an administrator, I oversaw the successful deployment of several tutoring programs and worked to ensure the longevity of these initiatives. I have a wealth of experience and knowledge to contribute.

About Celeste

I am a graduate student in Language and Literature at the University of Chicago. Still, I have a wealth of experience in the classroom and in after-school programs. I have been a tutor for over ten years and have taught a wide variety of subjects to an array of different students.

Rafeh Q.

Niles, IL

I have been tutoring math for as long as I can remember. I have tutored it when I went to Niles North High School and I tutored at my college as well. I have also helped many friends and family members learn it. I have tutored for over 6 years and I have worked with students of all ages (5 to 50+).

About Rafeh

There is no such thing as talent. You simply need love and passion for what you want to achieve. My main focus is to get you excited about learning new things!

I am a professional software and web developer who is a chess expert and competes in table tennis tournaments on the weekends! There are many things I love doing but I am most passionate about meeting new people and getting them excited about learning new skills. I love waiting patiently and experiencing that moment with my student where they have their "aha" moment!

I have mastered skills in many different fields. My best skill i
s my ability to clearly communicate my ideas with the student and help guide them through their problems patiently. I have been coaching most of my subjects for over 6+ years now.

Whether your goal is to improve academically by getting A's in your classes, land that perfect job, or improve in sports, I am able to help you in your academic, professional, and athletic pursuits.

Rafeh is the greatest instructor you could have. He walked me through every step and taught me. He also showed me how to learn python on my own time when he is not teaching me. Most other instructors before him would probably have just given me code and never taught me. Then they would ask for more money to do another lesson. However, Rafeh shows me courses and websites that would teach me how to learn deeper into Python. Most other instructors out there would probably just keep me in the dark about those websites, so I would become dependent on them.

Would highly recommend him to anyone interested in chess. Best-in-class.

Rafeh was very unprofessional. Was told by Take lessons that he is one of the best, so I booked him for 3 sessions to help me with a Wordpress website I am already building.

He was very engaging up until my payment was made, I also have a business and teach Photography, so I understand customer service and professionalism in this sector.

I needed just some tweaks as I already have been working on the site myself. These tweaks would help me in bettering my business website. When I booked, the only day he had available was a week out. That was not good for me, so I emailed him about this. No response for three days, so emailed him again, no response. At this point my lesson was three days away, so I just figured he wasn't going to get back to me until my original session. The night before my paid session still nothing, so I emailed him again on how this lesson will be taking place. Rafeh finally sends an email back for me to download something to take the lesson, but with no info, He just wrote "download this"

Day of my lesson I waited with again no word from Rafeh, so 15 minutes before the lesson was suppose to start I emailed him asking whats up.

Rafeh sends an email back telling me that he is very busy with school finals and could we postpone this.

We sure did, indefinitely with a call to the company about how unprofessional he is. Now Take Lessons tells me that he has done this to others as well. Thanks for the info guys.

Refah, I'm sure your going to read this. As a professional photographer with many international awards and publishings over the past 40 years, clients don't really care about all your awards when they hire you as a business professional to help them.
