Elizabeth L.

Lowell, MA

A laid back atmosphere, and structured goals and exercises. We will focus on your needs and personal goals while maintaining studies of music theory and good musicianship, technique, etc.

About Elizabeth

I am a lead guitar player and multi instrumentalist of over 15 years, and would love to teach you everything I know!

I have been studying music for over 20 years, through school and college, on my own, and with private instructors including Toby Walker, Anthony Wellington, and Buddy Charleton. I consider my main instrument to be guitar- I have been playing for about 16 years, and am comfortable in just about any professional situation on my instrument. I play lead guitar, rhythm, etc. We can go over many techniques and subjects to help you become more versatile and well rounded: including
ostinato picking, slide/open tunings, improvisation, and composition.

I also teach pedal steel guitar, I have studied for about 8 years, some of that time was with world renowned steel guitarist, Buddy Charleton.

Each lesson is eagerly tailored to the student's strengths and needs in order to help them learn to the best of their ability, and ultimately, have fun!

As a student of mine, you will come to understand that music is a language, and we want to give you the tools and resources that you need in order to speak and understand that language fluently. Prioritizing your interests and genres that you prefer, we will expand in areas where you seek improvement, as well as incorporating ear training, music theory, and new exercises and techniques specific to your skill level and instrument. Each lesson is tailored to each student's learning style. From reading music and ear training, to writing counterpoint and mastering improvisational techniques, together we will find ways to help you grow as a musician. :)

*** Lesson Details ***
When we schedule our first lesson, I will ask you a few questions about your interests, goals in taking lessons, and your priorities related to music. This way, I can be sure to tailor the lesson to meet your expectations and goals.

Generally, my lessons lean towards feeling laid back, and no pressure... along with positive energy and passion for music!

Curriculum is catered to the student, and based on student goals and priorities. Jazz studies will differ from studying rock n roll, as well as classical, etc. Once we have an introductory lesson, I will be able to review with you the materials, passages, postures, techniques, and music we will be working with. You always are encouraged to have a say in what you want to learn, whether it is your 1st or your 50th lesson.

***Skype Equipment Needed***
Computer, good internet connection, instrument, 1 hour

*** Travel Equipment Liz will provide/student can provide***
guitars, metronome, recording device

*** Specialties ***
I teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced students in genres including jazz, rock, metal, classical, funk, blues, country, pop, and more, on a handful of instruments including lead guitar, rhythm guitar, slide guitar, ukulele, and pedal steel guitar.

I've been taking lessons from teacher Liz for a couple of years now but I've also had the chance to meet and play with all the other teachers as well. These are wonderful people dedicated to helping you discover or improve your inner musician. I've gone from complete beginner to being able to play and lead songs in the group jam sessions under their tutelage. It's been a great journey and I could not have asked for better inspiration and guidance. I'd give then more stars if it was an option.

I have been taking lessons with Liz for about a year and a half. She is an amazing teacher! I am fortunate to have an instructor who knows my interests and goals as it relates to music. I have always had a passion for music, and Liz has made me realize that my passion can only grow further as I am learning how to create music on my own. She is encouraging and patient and knows just when and how to challenge me to reach the next step in my journey. It has been life changing. I can't thank her enough!

Stephanie M.

Boston, MA

Each lesson includes studies of fundamental techniques, ear training, and music history in order to facilitate the development of a whole musician.

About Stephanie

Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with my Masters in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refineme
nt of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two professions, whereby one feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard saxophone repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, saxophone/music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of the saxophone.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play saxophone. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie

I went to New England Conservatory with Stephanie, and I have to say that she is one of the most supportive colleges I have ever met. She is extremely dedicated to her students, even to the point that even in social settings she will be texting her students words of encouragement and asking about their progress. She has an incredible work ethic and an infectiously positive attitude.

I hired Stephanie to work with me at Lynn Middle School as a woodwind technician for one semester, Spring 2012. Stephanie was always punctual, organized, and outstanding with the kids. She immediately set up a fun and safe environment for them to learn. Her work was excellent. We were preparing for our district Music Performance Assessment Festival and received Superior ratings. I have no doubt we owe part of that rating to her hard work. She really goes above and beyond, on one occasion I had to miss my afternoon classes for jury duty and she ran rehearsal without any problems. I wish we still had Stephanie in our district. I highly recommend her.

Tegan S.

Somerville, MA

Must supply own instrument -- I would be willing to help find a beginner sax. 15+ years experience.

Beginner saxophonists will learn to read music, and begin by learning the parts of the instrument, and the fundamentals of breathing and posture, with simple songs soon to follow.

Intermediate saxophonists will expand their repertoire and technique, and begin work on important orchestral excerpts and solos, with an eye towards competition. The rest of the sax family may begin to be explored at this point.

Advanced saxophonists will continue to polish technique and expanding their repertoire, with a focus towards audition preparation and competition. Further work in multi-sax fluency will be completed.

About Tegan

I have taught private instruction and group instruction in such varied subjects as Music Theory/Ear Training, Woodwinds, and Crochet. I completed a B.A. of Music at University of Massachusetts - Boston, in August, 2014. As a working musician, I currently perform oboe with the Brockton Symphony Orchestra (Dir. James Orent) and the University of Massachusetts - Boston Chamber Orchestra (Dir. Dr. Jon C. Mitchell). I have most recently studied under Dr. Emilian Badea in both Oboe and Accordion, with Bulent Guneralp in Piano and Voice, and with Dr. David Patterson for Music Theory, Ear Training, Ar
rangement and Composition. Music has been an important part of my life for over 20 years.

I have also been sewing and crafting for over 20 years, and have done custom corsetry and Theatrical Costuming in addition to Knitting, Crocheting, Tatting, and Needle-pointing.

For information regarding my approach to instruction of a specific subject, please click on the name of the subject listed above for a full description.

As I do not have access to a car, I prefer that students come to my home studio in Somerville, or that they be within public transit options.

N.B. I own both a cat and a dog, so for those with allergies, it might be best to meet in your own home.

Sebastian M.

Allston, MA

I have been playing sax/clarinet for over 10 years. I regularly gig in the Boston area with a variety of bands ranging from Jazz, Funk, Hip-hop to Classical. I am finishing up my degree at the Berklee in sax performance with a concentration in Jazz. I like to find what inspires my students and build the curriculum around that. I think a healthy balance of theory and harmony is important while at the same time not forgetting about playing music, because lets face it, that's what its all about!

About Sebastian

Berklee alumni. BM in Saxophone Performance. I (Seba Molnar) have had the opportunity to study with world-renowned saxophonists George Garzone, Bill Pierce, Tia Fuller. I have been gigging on saxophone and clarinet for over 10 years. I Regularly play in Boston and around the east cost in a number of bands. I teach beginner to advanced students, and am comfortable in a variety of styles ranging from jazz and funk to classical. Core elements of my curriculum focus on learning songs, harmony, ear training, sight reading as well as instrumental technique and skills. Music is about having fun
and expressing ones self in a creative way. It is my goal to help my students understand the fundamentals of music so that they can not only enjoy the music they make but have confidence in them selves and their music.

Sebastian has been my theory teacher for the past three years and I couldn't be more pleased with who I picked to learn from. He's extremely humble, patient (that's a big one), and knowledgeable on every subject. I have never brought him a question he didn't know the answer to, that he couldn't explain in a way I understood! Music theory has always been an problem for me until now and I'm so pumped, I'm even more pumped on how fast I've been progressing. I highly recommend this teacher to others hands down!!! My little cousin has him for saxophone lessons and has already improved so much and loves Seba. Can't stress it enough - great teacher!

Alexander H.

Brighton, MA

I give my students a good foundation in solid and beautiful sound production. I encourage ear training and solo transcription to help students internalize what it means to play a saxophone solo and to play with a band. I help students learn to learn. I teach the techniques necessary to take control of their own playing and bring it to the next level. I work with any books or topics or pieces that you are using for any other school or outside music activities, and go from there.

About Alexander

I have been teaching and playing music professionally for a little over 5 years. I have performed a variety of genres from Indy, Pop, Latin Jazz, Avant-garde, Jazz, blues and rock to classical styles in Chicago, New York, Dallas, Tokyo, Seoul, and Bangkok. I graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music before moving to Korea and then Thailand to teach and play music and to teach English, Literature, and ESL classes in a variety of schools. I taught music to students in middle school and high school at the International Pioneers School in Bangko
k, Thailand before relocating to Boston in late 2015. I approach music with a goal of creating a solid Aural foundation so that students can explore and enjoy any styles that they seek to master. I mix in a variety of schools of teaching, with a heavy improvisational anchor and ear training.
