Sharon S.

Fort Worth, TX

About Sharon

I have a diverse, mixed-up, wonderful background. I have wanted to do something with music and performance since I was 3-years-old. I have been able to foster that goal through work in the professional film and television industry as well as professional theater (and no, the word is not misspelled despite what spell-check would have you believe and I would love to explain why.). However, my greatest love has always been teaching. My education includes training in theater, film, television, music, voice, and communication. I received my BA in Fine Arts and Humanities from the University of
Nebraska at Kearney and my MS in Communication Studies at Texas Christian University. Most recently I worked as the director of the performance studies program at a local charter school, using music and theater to reduce communication anxiety in students. I am a member of the the Texas Music Teachers Association and attend frequent training and events to keep my skills current. My greatest teachers, however, have always been my students!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are as various as the students who take them. Just like no two students are alike no two lessons are either. My lessons are designed around the students goals and desires. I use modern technology as well as classical training techniques to help my students become the best that they can be. I use a variety of different curriculum depending on what best meets the needs of the individual student. Growth is a constant goal as we work together, student and teacher, to take the student from where they are to where they want to be. Lessons are full of "aha" moments as we work to not only understand the how but also the why behind everything that we learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Small room(10X12), piano and electric keyboard, computer, iPad, mirror, iGallop, CD/iPod Player.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect music students to have a keyboard/piano for home use as well as purchase their own books and/or sheet music. I provide computer equipment when applicable and other outreach tools.

*** Specialties ***
I use the classical approach for singing.
I teach quasi-method acting.

Sharon is awesome!

I can't say enough great things about Sharon. Her teaching style is great and she gets through to my daughter like no other instructor ever has. Emma has landed more call backs than ever before. She also had her first ever principal role with a solo singing part using an audition piece that Sharon chose and helped her prepare. Emma has improved vastly and she really enjoys her lessons with Sharon. We give her an A +++.

Ms. Sharon is an AMAZING teacher!!!

My younger siblings and I have been taking lessons with Ms. Sharon for 8 years in vocal, piano, acting, and speech. With Ms. Sharon's aid I qualified to nationals in speech, and have been in numerous plays. Ms. Sharon pushs all her students hard so they can accomplish their goals and achieve their dreams. Sometimes it we have to do some hard things but, In the end it is worth every drop of hard work! My siblings and I love Ms. Sharon and will take lessons from her for as long as we can!

My son always leaves with a smile

My son has a lot of confidence issues, but taking the lessons with Aaron has opened a whole new world of opportunity for him, and he always leaves his sessions encouraged with a smile. It's also great that he can play piano now beyond his own expectations. He is learning proper technique and theory as well.

TOYA N.

Dallas, TX

I've taught voice to children, teens, and adults in the US and abroad since 2006 and my students are working! My Masters degree training has afforded me the opportunity to be well versed in effective vocal techniques. My main goal is to help you to develop your own set of tools, and better understand your unique voice. Make sure to wear clothing you can move in during our sessions, and, most importantly, explore and just have fun!

About TOYA

I have taught acting to small children, teens, and adults in community, private, and collegiate settings. I taught acting at the legendary Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. My love of the arts has enabled me to study and perform in various cities throughout the US; including Los Angeles, where I studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, to Europe, Mexico, South America; then back to New York City, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School.

I currently work professionally as an actor, singer, and TV
and radio host. I've been fortunate enough to work in film, TV, theater, musical theater, hosting, commercials, improv, and voice-overs. I am also a vocally trained mezzo-soprano. Because I am still a working artist, I can not only teach you craft, but can assist you in making the right choices to navigate your own way in the business. I offer private coaching to actors in theater and film, and singers in the US and abroad. I would love to share my knowledge and experience with you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I offer private coaching to children, teens, adults who have an interest in acting or singing performance, and for those who simply have an interest in performing or speaking in front of others. In addition to coaching those who wish to better their skills in acting, voice and speech, and singing, I also offer coaching for non-actors; i.e., attorneys, business professionals, teachers, politicians, pageant participants, and other creatives, who want to improve their public speaking and communication skills.

John is an amazing, amazing teacher and human being.

Knowing very little about acting when I just came in, John was able to teach me so much in just a few lessons.

Using a simple set of exercises, he was able to help me evolve into a much more intuitive, fluid, attentive and perceptive actor.

Every lesson was a major break through and transformation of my acting skills as well as myself as a person altogether.

In addition to become a much better actor, I also became a better human being. A side effect of this work is you learn to listen to people, REALLY listen to them and connect with them as well as remain connected to your true authentic self.

As a result of my work with John, I not only became a much better actor but a much more authentic human being.

If you're looking for private Meisner technique lessons in the Metroplex, do yourself a favor and talk to John. I highly recommend him and will always be grateful for everything he taught me.

John is a very grounded teacher. He helps you learn by doing, and gives you a sense of security in the process. He doesn't let your discomfort in learning cause him to stray from the purpose, and he challenges you to grow through it. He made me feel completely comfortable being myself and doing what I needed in order to learn the techniques he taught. I would highly recommend John as a teacher.
