Gina P. Philadelphia, PA

I teach the fundamentals of violin playing: a relaxed and healthy physical technique, how to read music, how to use vibrato, how to play in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, different ways to use the bow, and how to play expressively. I encourage my students to create their own compositions, even if we don't end up writing them down. I teach classical violin technique.

About Gina

I have been making music my entire life. I began studying the violin at age 5 and the piano at age 6, and then when I was 8 started singing in school and church choirs. I received a music scholarship to high school which kept me busy accompanying people and participating in various instrumental and vocal groups. I began taking voice lessons as a freshman at New York University, and I'm now in year 9 of my vocal studies, year 13 of my violin-playing and year 22 of my piano-playing. After graduating from school, I sang in several operas with the Amato Opera company in New York, and staged a recital here in Philadelphia at the First Unitarian Church in which I sang and also accompanied another singer. I have been a professional member of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh and the ...

Gina is an excellent voice teacher! I am completely new to singing and she is very patient with me. She is very flexible with lesson times. She wants me to have fun, learn vocal techniques, and sing exactly what I find fun to sing. She is great at pointing out what I'm doing wrong and giving me concrete ways to improve. I would definitely recommend her for vocal lessons.

Gina has been teaching me piano and voice for the past 9 months. I look forward to our voice and piano lessons all week long.

I am a hobbyist adult beginner musician and a full-time MBA student. As an adult student who just wants to play popular music and doesn't read music well, I didn't think I'd be able to find a teacher as accommodating as Gina. She is patient and lets me drive our music selections. The most fun part is seeing myself progress week after week under her instruction. I can play songs I never thought possible now. She can teach anybody how to sing harmonies. She even recorded some of our collaborations and then edited them to point out areas where I can improve. She is extremely dedicated to her students' success. Honestly I can't recommend her more highly.

Since 2008 I have maintained an active music studio teaching both violin and viola! My lessons are designed around you and your goals for music. I use a combination of Suzuki method and traditional (meaning you'll learn how to read music right away if you can't already) My lessons are catered to your needs, but warm ups, scales, etudes and repertoire are the building blocks of my lessons. Technique is a huge part of the way I teach--so you'll definitely get a solid understanding of how to play beautifully and accurately! I'm a relaxed and gentle teacher, and I'm never going to have anything but a smile on my face, so there's no need to feel stressed or nervous.

Amber is a great Violin/Viola teacher and has been very knowledgeable and helpful! Amber hones in on where a student needs improvement in their playing and explains in a way that's easy to understand how to improve. Lessons are always fun and you can tell Amber enjoys teaching!

I've played brass instruments throughout High School and decided to attempt to teach myself the Violin after I graduated College. After almost a year of struggling I started to take lessons with Amber and she quickly helped me improved my form and technique with my left and right hand, obtain proper equipment, and provide exercises on what to practice to continue improving. I have noticed a drastic improvement since I started taking lessons with Amber and I highly recommend her as your Violin or Viola teacher!

Typically, I use the Suzuki and Strictly Strings books for beginner students, and I will then advance to etude studies such as Wolfarht and Sevick in addition to the Suzuki sequels for my intermediate students. Lastly, I will add Introducing the Positions, Mazas, Josephine Trott Double Stops, and solo concertos to my advanced students.

As a violin teacher, I am impressed by his ability to work with a variety of age groups and skill levels. He relates well to children and brings joy and humor to every lesson, while explaining the mechanics and the physics behind the technical aspect of music to more mature students.

I highly recommend Stephen to anyone who has a desire to learn the violin and a passion for music!

As an adult student, Stephen provides patience, guidence, and timely prompts. A relaxed style that keeps one form getting tense and frustrated!

Nice location as well! I would highly recommend anyone in the area to take from Stephen!

Elicia is a wonderfully talented Violinist! My daughter started lessons two years ago and loves going every week. Elicia is encouraging and very positive, she will point out areas that need to be re-worked. If something is not up to par she will add it to the lesson the following week and allow for more practice time. Elicia is truly wonderful I couldn't have asked for a better instructor for my daughter! I am so lucky to have found her on take lessons.
