Jesica S.

Pittsburgh, PA

About Jesica

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I started playing flute when I was 8 and bass when I was 13. In 2002, I moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School, where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Double Bass performance. I came to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University, where I got a Master's of Music degree and a post-graduate Performance Residency Certificate. Since finishing at Carnegie Mellon in 2011, I have been freelancing in Western PA, Ohio, and West Virginia.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want to provide a fun, relaxed environment in which you feel appro
priately challenged and comfortable to make mistakes. I don't have a pre-set course of music and exercises that I give to every student. Rather, I prefer to have a variety of music and exercises at hand so that we can find material that addresses the student's learning needs and is enjoyable for that student. I love teaching to all ages and levels, and I understand that each student's learning style and goals are different - the needs of a small child are very different than the needs of a student looking to get into a college music program. I want to ensure that you are happy with your progress, that you learn proper technique, and that you have fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, an electronic keyboard, mirrors so that students can see and make corrections to their form, a music library, and seating for parents. There's easily available parking on my street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my own instrument to demonstrate on. I have an electronic keyboard that I can bring if a music theory student does not have their own piano or keyboard. Students are responsible for purchasing all books and materials.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music of all eras, from baroque through 21st century compositions.

I was satisfied with the lesson. I wasn't noticing that Jessica had 2 E-Mails 'till the next day when I checked my PC. She said that she could be at at the bus stop when I got off the bus yesterday. That was alright anyway; I was a little bit early But she said that it was alright. Buses ether are early or late. (some times they don't show-up at all; I call the bus company several years ago & why it happened that way. They told me that they don't have time to look for another person to drive the bus & the guy calls up & he just wouldn't be there that day. Any was I liked the lesson & Jessica lives close to the 71C were I live. It was a short ride from my place were I live. It as a good lesson.

Patti C.

Murrysville, PA

About Patti

Hi! I am a classically trained pianist originally from Syracuse, NY. I graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA where I studied piano under Professor Alec Chien. I also enjoyed playing the French horn and percussion with the Allegheny Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble.

I have performed numerous piano solo recitals, as a featured pianist with the Allegheny Wind Ensemble, in piano duos, a piano quartet, small instrumental groups and in the pit orchestra for musical productions. I know the skills and technique needed to play as a soloist and in different types of groups. I am eager t
o share this with aspiring pianists.

I have 6+ years experience teaching private lessons to young children and 3 years experience in teaching fun group EZ play organ classes to senior citizens. My senior year I was also a substitute teacher for beginning class piano at Allegheny College.

So whether you’re looking to study as a serious pianist, just as a hobbyist or somewhere in between, I can guide and teach you along your journey.

I started piano lessons when I was 8 and music has been a part of who I am ever since. My goal as a teacher is to make a students' experience positive and rewarding. I have studied under 3 piano teachers in my life. Each teacher had a positive influence on me personally and musically. I strive to do the same for my students.

I am the strongest and most comfortable working with beginners of all ages. I get great joy out of seeing people realize their dreams or desire to start playing the piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to use the Bastien or Alfred piano methods. Students will be engaged and excited with the progress they make. For the younger students 5-7 I prefer the Bastien method which includes 2 books: lesson book and theory/technique book. For young students 8 and up the Bastien method includes 4 books: lesson, Theory, Technique and Performance/Solo. For adults I use the Alfred's Basic All-in-One Piano Course. Once students are ready I incorporate chord progressions, scales, sight reading and ear training into the lessons. Each lesson builds on the concepts and skills learned in prior lessons. I provide an opportunity for students to perform in a recital twice a year to show family and friends their progress.

I put great importance on proper technique right from the start. Poor technique can frustrate a student and therefore hinder their enjoyment and sense of accomplishment.

Lessons incorporate things that appeal to different learning styles. For example, a visual learner may really enjoy the flashcards to help learn the notes on the staff. For an audible learner they may look forward to hearing me play a new musical passage for him/her before talking about it. Finally, clapping a rhythm before playing it can really benefit the kinesthetic learner.

Patti was a wonderful teacher for my daughter. They seemed to hit it off right away. She was very helpful with my daughter's strengths and was willing to give her some help with things she was not as strong in. We could not have chosen a better teacher!

My young son and daughter have taken lessons with Patti for nearly a year now. I could not be more pleased with her. Not only is she very professional and friendly (on top of being a very talented pianist), but she has tailored my childrens' lessons to fit their needs and interest so well! My children are fairly young, 5 and 7, and it can be difficult keeping them engaged in the early stages of learning. She has been able to make it fun for them but also keep them disciplined and focused when she has to as well. She is always on time and has great communication about scheduling and my childrens' progress. We are very happy to have found her!

My two girls started taking piano lessons in Kindergarten and were very excited to learn. That enthusiasm didn't last long when teacher after teacher showed irritation and a lack of patience with young learners. We went through SIX teachers and were asked by friends why we continued our search for the RIGHT teacher. I knew the girls wanted to play and the problem wasn't that they were children, the problem was finding that teacher who had great patience, an even temper, and one who could move students through those periods of tough times. We found THAT teacher in Ms. Patty!!!!! We have been with her now for two years. The girls are practicing now for their fourth recital and absolutely love playing. They have learned so much more than piano. They have learned patience by example...... Ms. Patty is the best ever!!!!!! <3

Thank for the great lesson! I'll definitely have some excellent stuff to work on. Also, I just wanted to say thanks again for doing this online instruction. You're a great teacher and this method fits perfect with my highly mobile life. I'll be in touch soon to schedule another round of lessons.
Zach from Denver Corado
I was skeptical about taking music lessons by Skype, but thought I would give it a try since there are no accordion teachers in my area. Skype lessons with David have turned out to be quite a pleasure and much better than the best I could have imagined. First of all, David pays such close attention to my playing that he picks up on little details that I thought might go by unnoticed through a video lesson ( e.g. fingering and minor issues with my accordion reeds). Also, because David is so personable, the lessons are fun and I forget that we are not actually in the same room together. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I have been taking weekly lessons for only two months and my playing has already improved considerably. All and all, I am extremely happy with my accordion lessons with David through Skype: I have an attentive teacher, the lessons are fun, I am getting much better, and the only thing I'm missing from taking lessons with a teacher in person is the drive!
Bruno (student) New York City
I have been learning the accordion with David for a few months now and would happily recommend his Skype tutoring service. I have progressed well since starting the lessons and really enjoyed David's teaching style. He covers all the basics and fundamentals necessary for my level but also focuses on chord structures and progressions with an eye on mor advanced technique.
Stuart Dorin, (student) London,England
I love the Skype lessons! It allows me to learn how to play accordion from the comfort of my own home. I just set up a time to meet and then do the lesson! It's quick, easy and painless. David is very knowledgeable about the accordion and I have learned so much from him in only a few months. I would highly recommend the Skype lessons with David to anyone who wants to learn accordion, but may be hesitant about online lessons.

It's was amazing!! I was so afraid to handle the instrument , it being my first instrument and I did not want to break it the very first day but Mrs Sonnenberg was very patient and walked me through it very well. At the end of the session , I was very comfortable handling my first instrument.
