I am a full-time working drummer currently residing in Las Vegas. In addition to guiding up and coming drummers with their musical careers, I am working on music & soundtracks for film and television projects with platinum-selling recording artist Mark Slaughter. My drumming can be heard on Mark Slaughter's first-ever solo track, "Never Givin Up" Release March 18, 2014 on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play.
In April of last year I was inducted (for the 2nd time!) into the Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame for my collaboration with "Ripside." I performed at the induction concert with fellow inductees
Xcursion (Mark Slaughter, guitar/vocals; Kelly Garni, bass guitar). A picture of this performance is included in my "photos & video" section.

Markâs incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Markâs instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didnât know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students
I have been playing since I was a child. I studied privately with some of Chicagos finest teachers including: Dan Faith, Jeff Decker, Steve Hawk, and Paul Wertico. I attended the Percussion Institute in Hollywood, Ca when I was 19. I have taught in the Chicago area and now in Las Vegas. I am a very patient teacher and hope to make lessons fun and exciting.
*** Lesson Details *** I try to run lessons just like a school would teach any class. Goals, objectives, homework. I make a big effort to show why you have to learn the stuff and show how it can be used in the styles of music you like.
Travel Equipment *** practice pads, sticks, and book
I do not play drums regularly but can teach all levels/styles beginner to advanced.
Terry P. is a composer, producer, and a multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar and piano. He has been teaching all types of people at all levels for over eight years at Axis Music Academy in Southfield, and has taught over 8,000 lessons. Terry has a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Composition and Theory from Wayne State University. In 2012, Terry was awarded the prestigious Kresge Arts Fellowship in the performing arts category. This is Terry's bio from the Kresge Arts In Detroit website:
Terry had already started making a lasting impact on the local rock scene â in hi
s influence over other artists and his musical innovations â prior to studying music composition at Wayne State University. Terry has used this classical training toward his goal of elevating the musical consciousness of popular music audiences by exposing them to compositional techniques they would otherwise never hear without listening to classical music. Terry, a multi-instrumentalist, has focused his efforts on the exploration of these techniques in contemporary genres, specifically progressive metal. In recent years, he has employed himself as a private instructor and has started scoring music for film.
*** Lesson Details *** I make sure that lessons are fun for the student, and that the student is learning material that they like. At the same time, I make sure that my students become well-rounded musicians by teaching them skills in reading and music theory. Lessons are tailored to the student, and my approach varies with everyone I teach. I will fast-track you toward your goal while supplementing your lesson experience with exposure to new things that will challenge you in a fun way. I have learned to play almost every instrument and will teach just about anything, although I am strongest with the piano and guitar. I am open to teaching all ages, all genres/styles, and have even taught students with various disabilities. My extensive training also makes me a good tutor for undergraduate music students taking classes in ear-training and theory. Beginning students should expect to be playing a handful of their favorite songs after studying with me for a few months, and as well they will have a basic understanding of reading notes on the instrument, and a basic understanding of music theory fundamentals. Advanced students will find that they are continually inspired and challenged.
*Special note about locations taught*
I am centered in Ferndale, but would like to keep my travels north of 8 mile road. If you live south of 8 mile but still feel that you live in a safe neighborhood, we can deal with locations on a case by case basis.
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide my own instrument and practice amp. for guitar/bass, the student must have their own instrument and amp. piano students must have their own piano and drum students must have their own drum kit. I can bring books and other materials and may recommend that students buy certain books etc.
*** Specialties *** For piano, I specialize in classical, and can teach anyone from 5-year-old beginners to advanced players. I can teach any style. For guitar, I specialize in metal and progressive rock. I can teach any ability level and any style.

Starting off really well even though Terry's main instrument is not drums he strikes me as being proficient in all of the instruments he teaches. A really nice guy.

I have worked with Terry for 5 years and I have had nothing but a positive experience working with him. Terry always makes lesson fun while challenging me and pushing me to become a better musician. Working with Terry I have learned about music theory, music history, songwriting, and guitar performance. You will be had pressed to find a teacher who cares about their students as much as Terry does. He works to make you the best you can be and takes pride in the fact that he turns out great musicians. Terry made me the musician I am today and I am very thankful to have worked with such a wonderful teacher. Whether you are a serious musician that wants to take their playing to the next level or a learning a new instrument, you can not go wrong working with Terry.

Terry is a great instructor. He will custom tailor the lesson to your needs and teach you how to play guitar the way you want. In the year I have been working with him I have learned how to play many songs and made improvements in rhythm, picking, and dynamics. He can transcribe music or help you use your ear to do it yourself. During lessons Terry will discover and correct bad habits
Terry isn't just another instructor that gives you some homework and prays for the best. He is passionate about music and will teach you to play better.

"Mike is very excellent at teaching the drums
Mike creates a fun environment when he teaches drumming,i would definitely recommend people who have an inte
rest in drumming to go learn from Mike. He's very talented and admits he's a bit weird but the way he teaches is just fun. he's always telling you what he liked about how you're drumming and how you can improve."

"Best drum teacher in Orange County
I've been talking lessons with Mike for about 5 years. He is both a great teacher and person. He combines a high level
of skill and teaching ability with unmatched enthusiasm. His lessons are a combination of practice on the pad and on the kit, culminating in learning to play songs. Learning a new instrument is not easy, but this approach works and is very rewarding( as well as fun). Mike is also very friendly, fun, and energetic. To summarize, you WILL NOT regret choosing Mike. He is great teacher, and is someone who you or your child can become friends with. I will never regret having Mike as my drum teacher."

"Charles is an awesome teacher!
Our 6 year old son looks forward to his drum lesson with Charles every week. He keeps the lesson upbeat and fun, playing d
ifferent rhythm games and guessing games. I can attest to Charles being great with the little ones. He is a very reliable, professional, upbeat teacher! We are glad our experience has been so positive!"

"Keith is a fantastic personality. My 7 year old son has been studying under him since Santa brought a junior kit to the home. He is patient and strikes ju
st the right tone during the lessons between serious and fun. My son responds well to him and I also enjoy observing the lessons. Keith's long music background comes through immediately. Doing what he loves for his life is quite an accomplishment that I envy. I don't hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking to learn the Drums. Thanks Mike"

Cem is an excellent instructor, a very patient teacher that takes the time to discuss the importance of form and sound quality. I have
always had the desire to play drums and have never played so I appreciate his approach of making me feel at ease by playing along with me so I can see his form and technique. All the feedback I have received I have been able to return to the next class with improved skill and understanding. I really enjoy and look forward to my classes and I am happy with my progression during a short period of time."

"Mike is an excellent teacher. Passionate and knowledgeable about all things drumming, and just a chill personality overall, unlike teachers I've had in th
e past. I find him very easy to work and communicate with. I live an hour away from Austin, and often have to reschedule lessons due to a hectic and unpredictable work schedule. Mike has always been flexible when needed, and very fair when it comes to cancellations. If I could, I would take lessons more often."

"I took up drums 2 years ago in my early 40's. Francisco was my first drum teacher, and he patiently introduced me to the instrument, exposed me to many di
fferent musical concepts and traditions, and really increased my interest in music and drumming. He is an amazing player, and I learned much from watching him play in lessons and also live. Unfortunately he moved from Boston to CA, which was my loss.I reccommend him without reservation."

"I've had Matt as my instructor for over 2 years, and I absolutely love his lessons! I'm always learning new things. He asks that you practice and work har
d each week, but then we also play songs that I like too! He has a cool drum set at his house : ) I started with Matt when I got into 6th grade band, but I didn't really know how to play drums. He helped me learn music and helped me study and get ready for concerts. Now I play drums in marching band and jazz ensemble and I want to play in high school too. Matt's a really good teacher : )
