I just turned 49, and have been playing electric bass and guitar since I was 14, and took up flute a few years, later, and eventually saxophone as well. I graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 1985 with a Bachelors degree in classical guitar, and have been teaching guitar and electric bass for over 25 years. I'm an eclectic player who has studied and integrated many concepts from varying styles including classical, flamenco, jazz, blues, and rock, and I've developed a unique and highly effective teaching method that draws from and builds upon the CAGED system and other established successful methods. My approach to teaching emphasizes simultaneously learning musical concepts, knowledge and skills, and is a highly analytical approach that stresses simplifying, understanding, ...
Electric Bass guitar styles, techniques, note reading and theory and performing.
My name is Edward and I have been playing music most of my life. I was involved in every form of music education that I could find, and took private lessons on guitar and piano for ten years. During this time, I learned that I improved when I performed music that I liked. I attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and received a B.S. in Studio Music in 1996. I then moved to San Diego, CA and started my own business teaching music. The lessons were taught at the students' homes and I incorporated the students' interests in teaching. I have also performed for many years and have written many songs that have been recorded and performed. *** Lesson Details *** My teaching method is unique; I never teach the same way for everyone. I'm Seth, former scientist, culinarian, and currently, bassist for a band called Meade Ave. I have years of experience in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, and was a professional cook/chef for over a decade. I prefer to teach with a hands on method, where you experience exactly what it is you want to learn, allowing you to learn the how and why of the subject, instead of just memorizing tables, chords, or recipes. I've found this method teaches people to use what they learn, rather than just repeat information, and makes it easier to apply to everyday life.
