Guten Tag,

I'm Sam and use the pronouns she/her. I was born in England but have been living and teaching in the USA since 2014 where I studied for my MA in German Studies at the University of Florida. I began teaching with Takelessons in 2016 and never looked back! Last year I became a USA permanent resident and am working my way to becoming a citizen. 

I started learning German in school at 11 so, as well as teaching German I also know what it is like to learn it. I firmly believe this background aids my teaching. 

After school I went on to study German as my major at undergrad level, studying in Düsseldorf plus living and working in Berlin multiple times. Ich liebe (I love) all things Deutsch, would also love to pass that on to you. 

German can be a tough language to learn but that is what makes it extra rewarding. I consider myself to be an approachable teacher who will always strive to make you feel comfortable in our lessons steer them to cover things that interest you personally.

I love all things German and my aim is to encourage my students to feel the same. I've been teaching German for 5 years. My students go from knowing no German to being able to hold conversations to eventually  completing their grad studies in a German speaking country! 

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to introduce yourself and before you know it be a German whizz. I try to base my lessons around modern German pop culture typically using current events as inspiration. My lessons feature video links, audio, worksheets, textbooks, and more.

I offer different time options to suit your needs and am also happy to discuss group lessons if you wish to learn with your partner/family member/friend. Please reach out to discuss pricing options for those.

Sam is the most incredible German teacher you could ask for. She is knowledgeable, flexible, funny and patient. I would recommend her to anyone looking to learn German.

Sam is AMAZING. So much so that I hesitate to write this review, because I don't want her to ever get too busy for me! (ha). I had taken (a few) lessons prior to her but was just as lost as ever when I gave her a try. I feel like I have learned sooooo much now since having lessons with her! She's super friendly but just.. get it when it comes to teaching a language. I don't know how to put it into words, but she just knows how to make it stick without it being so overwhelming. Love having you as my German teacher, Sam!!!

Sam really is excellent. Very knowledgeable and creates a secure and comfortable environment for you to explore the language. I'm really happy that I made this decision to invest in myself with these sessions.

I'm three lessons in with Sam and I couldn't be more pleased with her as an instructor. She's flexible, she's practical and is a really good teacher. She's deliberate in her teaching approach but also will slow the pace and spend time on areas I struggle. She's great at provide "homework" and resources for me to learn outside of lessons.

Sam is fantastic and everything you could hope for in a language teacher. She is patient, attentive, creative, passionate, thorough, and just overall amazing. Her approach allows the student to learn at their own pace, while continuing to reinforce previous concepts and form a solid foundation in order to level up your German. I know my language journey is not an easy one, but Sam makes it fun and something to look forward to each week. I am so glad I found a teacher like Sam to help me accomplish my language goals.

I have been taking online German lessons from Sam since June 2018. She is very knowledgeable and fluent with the German language. Her availability is very flexible and she is very creative with her teaching methods when it comes to the difficult part of learning grammar and conjugation. I find her an absolute joy to have as my instructor and I plan on taking lessons from her for many years to come.

Sam has been a fantastic German Teacher. She has been teaching me how to speak, understand and write German for over 5 years. She is never pushy or judgmental and teaches at my pace. She incorporates things I am interested in, current events and holidays, etc. into her lessons which makes learning more interesting and easier to retain what I have learned. Learning a new language is not easy and you have to do the work to learn. Sam takes the time to get to know your goals and provides you with the tools to reach those goals. In-Depth, engaging and fun lessons that are tailored to your needs.  Sam listens, creates a plan that will work best - it is obvious she has a ton of experience and uses it to create a plan that benefits you (rather than following a strict, standard plan).  I wouldn't take lessons from anyone other than Sam (and Randall!). :)

Sam is everything you could ask for in a teacher and more! She teaches at my level, isn’t judgmental, she incorporates my interests into her lessons, and provides detailed notes and ample outside resources. I absolutely adore her as an instructor
