In this video, we recap concepts discussed in the English Reading Strategies class. Concepts include central themes, main ideas, and supporting details as well as the difference between skimming and scanning. We use these strategies to develop and refine our reading comprehension skills as well as our speed reading capabilities.

Conversation+ Part 1

In this class, we discussed the information learned in an article about New Zealand's decision to put a price on methane emissions from cows and sheep. We learn new vocabulary like emission, subsidy, and incentive as well as word roots like "calc" and "asp." We talk about suffixes like -ate and how their pronunciation changes based on part of speech. We looked at the difference in pronunciation between "zh" and "sh" in words like "measure" and "shopping" as well as how voicing affects both the plural "s" and possessive "'s." We introduced the concepts of paired sounds like p/b, s/z, and k/g as well. Concepts are covered in depth in the English Conversation class.

Vocabulary+ Part 4

In this video, we discuss spelling and pronunciation patterns as well as the meanings of different roots, prefixes, and suffixes. We cover the following words: acrid, casualty, congested, cope, headlong, hurtle, impede, inevitable, and initiate. Topics are covered in detail in the live Advanced English Vocabulary class.
