Mark H.

La Habra, CA

From being comfortable in front of a group to performing in a musical, I can help the young actor, musician, or presenter to be more confident, have more refined tools, and help develop a passion for successfully performing and accomplishing their acting goals.

About Mark

Classically trained with years of performance and practical experience. I know how to help you make the music that you want to make. I am well-versed in nearly all music styles from classical to contemporary/pop. I am currently active in both piano accompaniment, vocal performance with the Pacific Chorale,
directing a very active north orange county community choir, and directing the choirs and drama department at Tuffree Middle School in Placentia with approximately 150 students in the program.

I recently completed my music credential and have graduate degrees in Education and Music.

I am especially gifted in teaching beginning piano, fundamental vocal production and dramatic presentation. I have extensive experience with the young and beginning acting student and can masterfully explain the dynamics of auditions and performing in the community.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on the individual student for curriculum and speed of progress. I utilize Bastien and other music curricula depending on maturity and ability. Within 3 months most students are performing simple songs successfully and within 6 months they have begun to master the more difficult 2nd and 3rd level. I believe in creating opportunities for the student to play in public and successfully perform by playing in small groups and bands. My acting students are taught through monologues and basic acting dynamics along with rehearsing through audition challenges and opportunities in the community.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate music room, grand piano, multiple keyboards available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Professional piano keyboard and sound systems available.

*** Specialties ***
Piano - Foundations, jazz piano, Broadway, easy listening.
Voice - Foundations, breathing, operatic styling, Broadway.

My son enjoys his time stretching his voice out. While my son's voice hasn't dramatically improved over just a few lessons, his confidence has improved which is most important.

This product is very handy to use.

Mark is very professional and sings well himself. In just a few lessons he's had a powerful impact on my singing because of the techniques he's demonstrated.

Patricia M.

San Pedro, CA

I am a firm believer in the importance of reading for content and comprehension, so that is the approach I take when tutoring this subject. I teach my students how to look for key words, key sentences, order and flow of paragraphs and how to scan for speed. All of this is done without sacrificing the most important element: comprehension of content. I provide passages for the students to read, followed by a series of questions which tests their understanding and retention of the material. Gradually, I increase the difficulty or complexity of the passages to raise the level of proficiency for the student.

About Patricia

As a child I watched from the doorway as my older sister took her piano lessons. From that experience I taught myself to play the piano. My formal training came in college where I received my BA in Applied Music in piano and voice. I studied classical music and opera from a visiting professor from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore MD. I graduated with honors and gave my Town Hall performance in the Spring of my Senior year. I had a passionate desire to be involved in music, to hear it and to perform it. I spent several years singing with the San Diego Opera Company, performing lead roles in Musi
cal Theater and soloing in concerts from Monterrey to San Diego, CA. While still a student in college, I taught piano to children from the local community, so I have accumulated decades of teaching experience. Nothing brings me greater pleasure than to see individuals "blossom" into their creative selves. Whether it is for a student's own enjoyment, audition preparation, recital performance or ongoing piano or voice development, I am committed to engaging you in an experience of learning and fun. It may be the biggest thrill of your lifetime!

*** Lesson Details ***
I love to have fun. For me, learning is a great source of fun. My goal is to make the process of your learning music fun while effective. I do have high standards for participation. I do not ask anything of you that I haven't done myself. I know, from many years of experience in performing and teaching, what it takes to make progress in a learning curve, Are you excited? Are you dedicated? Are you willing to jump in and get busy? I will give you the foundation of theory and technique to support your performance. I will expand your understanding and appreciation for music in its many styles and formats. No every other week or schedule as you go lessons, please.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room - Steinway piano, cathedral ceilings ... good acoustics.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Must have piano or quality keyboard. I definitely prefer piano.

*** Specialties ***
I was trained classically in both piano and voice, but spent many years in musical theater and singing in supper clubs, as well. I am capable of teaching most styles of piano and voice except rock and rap.

i recently came out of an audition and I sang my musical pieces better than I've ever done them before! The auditioner sat me down at the end and said he loves my voice. He said, based on how much he liked my pieces and how well I did that he would like to extend an early invitation for callbacks for the program! I really have Patricia to thank for that. She has helped me improve my voice by leaps and bounds in the time that i have been working with her and its amazing to get such immediate and rewarding results. I CAN NOT THANK PATRICIA ENOUGH! SHE COULD NOT HAVE PREPARED ME ANY BETTER AND IM SO GRATEFUL THAT I GET TO WORK WITH HER!!

She is great! It will be my 5th lesson with her tomorrow, but she has already gave me confidence in singing (at least I can get my voice out more than before without shame), being patient with me, very informative, and gives great advises.
I originally took her lesson because I had an audition for Christmas Carol, and I wanted to at least go over the song I was going to use. Instead, she gave me another song to sing for the audition. I have never been able to get in a show where singing is the main dish; however, after her advise with the new song, I was thrilled to see an email from the casting director when I was chosen to be in the show! I can never thank enough her for this. :D

Peter C.

Long Beach, CA

I am available for acting coaching. You can work with a scene partner or do a monologue. My coaching is just that, coaching. There is no one way to act or to perform a scene/monlogue. I will give you my take on the character and scene you look to make better. I have studied with several different teachers throughout my performing days in college. I also took time to study improv at The Groundlings Theater and scene study at the Ivana Chubbuck studio in Hollywood.

About Peter

If you are looking for a teacher you or your child have an interest in getting better at a passion, a hobby, or new found interest. As you may know, one on one training or lessons are the best way to improve. Peter will look at your skill and knowledge, then assess and assist you in your journey of improvement and learning.
Music and acting are his passions. Receiving his first piano keyboard at age nine, Peter has since been involved in one or the other practically every day of his life.
Through passion and involvement, Peter gained a ton of knowledge and experience that lead him to major
ing in Music at Southern Illinois University and moving to Los Angeles to pursue the subjects professionally. He has been blessed with accomplishing both. As his growth continued, he realized one had to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise in order to gain more of those for them selves. Peter began teaching private lessons on and off about 4 years ago, and now wants to make it a more regular habit.
Peter is a very flexible teacher and willing to do what it takes to make his students comfortable and learn the best they can. He will use their strengths to work on their weaknesses and do it in a way they will enjoy.Peter had many great teachers across his musical experience from voice, to piano, to musical directors in shows has performed in. He draws from that experience and uses the tools he has picked up from them to add to his teaching style.
Whether you chose him as a teacher, he sincerely hopes you or your child accomplish what they aim for on their journey.

My son is a beginner at swimming so I wanted someone who would come to our house to teach him since he is familiar with our pool. I priced out some other programs and found that this was less expensive for a one on one instructor. Peter was on time and made my son comfortable prior to starting the lesson. It was a great experience and he is looking forward to continuing his swimming lessons.

Nicolas (9 years old) is a beginner/intermediate swimmer but did not know the fundamentals. Peter was very good and Nicolas had only good things to say - we have 5 total lessons at our house. This was the first lesson and Peter was on time and took the time to find out what Nicolas knew before starting the lesson. I would recommend him as a good teacher, especially if you want someone to come to your house to teach.

Eulis K.

San Diego, CA

There are many approaches to acting out there, but one constant is that of learning to be in touch with your character. Acting lessons can help you learn methods to take character study step by step, allowing you to open yourself up to free-flowing, improvisational acting, where you feel like you are just "being" the character. This in addition to scene study techniques, vocal diction, character research and development, and other tools, will help you improve your craft one step at a time.

About Eulis

---------- Now teaching in Orange County AND San Diego! ---------

Hello! Thanks for visiting my profile. Allow me to tell you a bit about myself:
I have been performing as a musician for about 20 years and acting since I was a small boy. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many opportunities from touring the world to performing in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most revered artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance through act
ing in various plays, musicals, television, and film.

Performing has been my salvation. It has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might offer them the same. After 10 years of teaching, I have new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I've spent my last 6 years performing with Disney in Anaheim and this past year touring Japan in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that my experiences have given "performance" a new depth. I'm excited to dive back into lessons with fresh ideas that will mesh well with my tried and tested teaching techniques.

Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm especially proud to be expanding my studio to San Diego as well! I am so excited to share my experiences with the people of this beautiful and inspiring town. If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!

My Teaching Style

Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person.
To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.

Eulis is an amazing teacher.

He is vibrant, encouraging, and gives great examples (and often humorous) examples to help better understand working the voice.

In just my very first lesson, he pinpointed huge holes in my singing that I never even noticed before in recordings of myself, and attuned each exercise specific to my needs.

I'm looking forward to improving with him!
(and he definitely deserves all five stars)
