Teresa L.

Ingleside, IL

Piano is the general instruction of the instrument. I have taught lessons for over 23 years where I have been traveling to the homes.
The students learn not only the general concepts but they also learn Theory which is the understanding of what lies underneath the music itself.
I have an easy going personality with the students learning how to play the piano, but I also want the students to work to their full potential.
The students learn not only the basics of the piano itself, but they also play fun songs, such as popular songs that they know.

About Teresa

I am a graduate of Northern IL University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I have 22 years of teaching experience where I have traveled to the homes. Students enjoy my passion that I have with the instrument.

I started teaching in 1991 and have been teaching several students since then. Attending teacher workshops keep me at a current updated level and I want to help the students learn to the best of their potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very thorough in my teaching, which includes lesson, theory, technique, and performance
methods. I use a very easy, flexible
approach when it comes to the kids and their personalities. I expect a lot out of my students, yet still want them to learn and have fun.
After three months with me, they will have learned how my teaching style is and will be able to play several children's songs.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I don't provide any equipment when I travel except their books for the first lesson. I would expect the student to have a well tuned piano or a basic keyboard. The student also needs a notebook so I can write their homework down for them as well as myself to keep track of where the student is in their progress.[

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching Alfred, Bastien, and Faber and Faber. I teach General Music, Classical, Jazz, and Popular. I teach mainly through the method books, and then use other supplementary materials as well..

Steven B.

Hanover Park, IL

Piano classes include learning to read music, solo, and play accompaniment out of method books Piano Basics by James Bastien or Piano Adventures by Randall Faber for the beginner to intermediate.

About Steven

I have been studying and performing music for 20+ years. After majoring in music at College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn IL, I went to step up my level of study at the Percussion Institute of Technology (P.I.T.) at Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA in 2001 attaining a Performance Certificate from my time studying there.

Moving back to Chicago after L.A. in 2002 proved to be the right move as this is when I began my teaching career. With 12+ years of private and group music instruction experience, I have worked with Hix Brothers Music, Naperville Music, Roselle Music, Streamwood Park Distri
ct, After School Enrichment Solution's Guitar Stars, Band For Today, Guitar Fundamentals, Chicago Guitar Instruction, Schaumburg Music Academy, Music Makers of Western Springs, and also maintain a private clientele. Well into a thousand lessons taught, students have stayed with me for up to 7 years. You, the student, will gain all the experience I have gained from my 20 years of study, performance, and instruction.

Performing with various bands in the 2000's, I pinpointed my style and mastered my technique that gave me many performance opportunities regionally and nationally, noting most current act U2 tribute Vertigo USA and country rock cover act soon to be announced featuring members of Trash Martini.

I am co-founder of the music licensing production company Blue Shade Music, co-writing with astute musicians in the Chicago area for music libraries in Florida and California currently.

With national and international touring experience, I was featured in an exclusive interview for Online Drummer in August of 2011 sharing my knowledge and experience of music and drums.

Thank you for reading, and I hope to have a fun and educational time with you!

Steven is a great teacher! He's flexible, and works well with all ages! He's teaching my 3 kids, drums, guitar and bass. He's very receptive and adjusts his lessons according to what my kids are interested in. For example one of my kids was learning notes, but then the other wanted to learn a specific song and he easily adjusted to focus on what each of them wanted to do to. My kids love him!

I took 5 in-home guitar lessons from Steve and loved every minute! I had never played guitar before so we were starting from scratch. We covered a lot of information, tailored to what I wanted to learn, and I felt like I made a lot of progress in a short amount of time. Steve was always on time, well-prepared for lessons, and was very encouraging. I would recommend Steve to anyone interested in taking guitar lessons.

Voytek F.

Rolling Meadows, IL

Learn to play the piano one step at a time using the Piano Adventures book series for kids, and Adult Piano Adventures for adults.

About Voytek

Hi, my name is Voytek and I love music! I currently do over 200 shows a year and in addition to performing as a soloist, I play in 2 gigging ensembles. Thanks to music, I've been able to meet many incredible people and travel all over the world to Germany, New York, Switzerland, Washington DC and the Dominican Republic. My goal is to inspire my students and share with them my passion for music so they can also experience how wonderful and rewarding it really is. Let's rock some jams!

*** Lesson Details ***
While teaching lessons, I like to keep the atmosphere relaxed but productive. I
utilize many proven traditional teaching techniques (for example: scales, theory, exercises, drills and prepared pieces) however, I also try to keep things fresh with fun backing tracks and music theory games to keep students engaged. I am also very flexible and open to suggestions, so I encourage students to ask questions and let me know if they want to learn a specific song or musical concept.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio is equipped with a 76-key keyboard, drum set, music stands, recording equipment and a PA system. Plenty of parking available, either in the driveway or on the street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
In order to teach at a student's home I will need a quiet room/area where we can concentrate on our studies. If the student is taking drum or piano lessons, they will need a drum kit or piano/keyboard. Also, a boombox/CD player may be necessary if we need to play with some backing tracks.

*** Specialties ***

My son is only 6 years old, so during the online class, he could not fully focus all the time. But Voytek was very patient and try to encourage him and attract his attentions.
Yesterday was the first class, we will continue to finish the 5 classes and see the progression.
But so far, Jeremy said he enjoyed the lesson, it was awesome.
Thanks,Voytek.

Voytek is very friendly and uses many techniques to keep a highly active kid focused. He even went 10 minutes over to make sure my kid covered 4 songs well. And he is good at inspiring her on love for music too. She practiced piano for half an hour on her own after the lesson. I am excited to have my kid learn piano with him.

Voytek is patient, kind, encouraging, and enthusiastic. He focuses on what you do well, and then gently pushes you to do just a little bit better. And behind that, he is a master of music theory … he breaks it down, makes it easy to understand, and then applies that knowledge or skill to whatever you’re working on to help you gain proficiency. But he does it in such a way that doesn’t feel overwhelmingly technical. He helps keep you motivated and excited to learn. And his love of music, all kinds of music, always comes through. Lessons are fun! He’s an excellent teacher!

Britta Y.

Round Lake, IL

My approach to teaching piano is simple and flexible. I work with the unique learning styles, interests, and goals of each student. If you’re a beginner, I’ll get you started quickly with the basic skills. From there, we’ll explore new music, building your skills along the way. We’ll follow a method book and supplement with other music as well as scales, ear training, theory, performance skills, and more. I’ll be attentive to your needs and interests, and am always open to suggestions.

About Britta

My name is Britta, and I love piano and teaching! Music has brought great joy to my life, and it all started with the piano. I am eager to share that joy and power with you.

I started playing piano before I can remember and began lessons at age 5. I studied under my phenomenal teacher in Minnesota until I moved away when I was 18. I continued playing duets and quartets at her studio anytime I was back in Minnesota. I spent a few years living abroad and at college in Chicago. I taught first graders for a year at LEARN Excel Charter School in Chicago. Now I’ve relocated to Round Lake Beach, w
here I have a beautiful 80-year-old baby grand piano and a peaceful in-home studio.

When it comes to music, I think it's important to stay relaxed, push yourself, and have fun. Learning to play an instrument like the piano can be a very rich and transformative experience for anyone. Whatever it is you're looking for in learning piano, I'm eager to help and share the gifts my teacher gave me.

Grace C.

Carpentersville, IL

My lessons are geared toward the individual student. I spend the first lesson getting to know the student's strengths and weaknesses, history, hobbies, and general feelings about music. This helps me to better understand what the student (or parent) is hoping to gain from taking piano lessons. My lessons are meant to produce the best possible success, and most importantly, a great time and a permanent love of music.

About Grace

I started piano lessons at the age of 3 and continued through middle school. I played the flute in the high school band and continued to pursue my love of music in college where I joined the Piano Ensemble and received a degree in Music from DePaul University. I graduated in 2015 with high honors. I have been teaching music and piano for several years. I love, enjoy, and welcome students of all ages. I enjoy teaching all styles of piano music and I believe in catering teaching styles, methods, and pieces to the individual student. I strongly believe that music lessons can be happy, fun e
xperiences. Learning an instrument provides academic, mental, physical, and emotional benefits and strength, but it can also be a truly enjoyable experience to anticipate each week! I look forward to meeting you!

Grace was an extremely nice teacher. I was an adult, beginner student. She taught me all the necessary basics as well as including songs in my lessons that I had sought out and wanted to learn. When she teaches you, she takes into account your musical taste/preference in choosing which pieces you will work on. Her patience is outstanding when you struggle and her ability to give you confidence in your playing style is an addition that makes the experience wonderful and everlasting. I highly recommend Grace, as her I've seen her work with both adults and children and she is capable of altering her plans in order to make them more specific to each individual rather than grouping us all into the same category.
