John C.

Santa Clarita, CA

About John

With a pedigree going back to Beethoven, a bachelor's in music and a certificate in theory, harmony, and ear training from Berklee College of Music online, I have a broad and versatile musical background. My training began when I was in 6th grade and started taking piano lessons. By 9th grade I began competing in national private school fine arts competitions, and aside from my solo performance background I have had extensive experience accompanying, writing, and arranging music.
I also come from a family of school teachers (both my parents, two aunts, and one uncle), and have extensive exper
ience dealing with and teaching children (like tutoring, substitute teaching, coaching, and teaching in a church setting).
Because of all this background, I feel well-prepared to not only bring a strong knowledge-base and skill-set to the lessons I provide, but also to helpfully convey that knowledge-base and skill-set to my students.
My lessons are catered to the student and aim to develop the whole musician, technically and artistically, incorporating a broad musical understanding with the goals of the parent and/or student in mind. Let's make some true musicians!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any travel equipment. The student should provide a piano/keyboard for lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Along with teaching traditional piano technique, I specialize in improvisation, arranging, songwriting, and composition.

I have been working with Cathy now for three months and I couldn't be happier! She is the first and last name in vocal coaching for the Santa Clarita Valley, in my opinion - she's cheaper than most of the other teachers out here, but has more experience with performing, touring, and working with vocally disadvantaged individuals (i.e., speech impediments, volume disparities, confidence issues, etc.) than anyone else my friend and I know of. She has helped me come out of my shell and boost my confidence more in the past few months than my own parents could do in my entire life! Working with Cathy, I was finally able to audition for one of the plays local to this area, something I've wanted to do for years, but always talked myself out of. Therefore, I credit Cathy with my success personally, and in the theater community out here.
In short, she is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; she sends out a list of possible time-slots available for you (or your child) promptly after you contact her and can help expand your knowledge and technique of singing/acting/speaking in just a matter of a few lessons. :)

Review: A Must-Have Resource for Classical Singers
Classical singers, listen up! Here's a resource you absolutely shouldn't miss, reviewed by voice teacher Molly R...   If you teach classical voice, you are probably aware that one of the biggest challenges is accompaniment! We can fake our way through standards and simpler Disney tunes for our other students, but this is not usually the case when it comes to Mozart or Verdi. And if you are a classical soloist, it’s every bit as frustrating. It can get very costly to hire an acc
