During my doctoral program, I was the teaching assistant in clarinet for three years. Previously, in May 2016, I graduated from California State University with a Master in Music in clarinet performance under the teaching of Hakan Rosengren, international soloist. My lessons adhere to classical pedagogy with an emphasis on reading notation, as well as applied ear training. Whether you haven't picked up the instrument yet, have been playing recreationally on and off for a few years, or study at the collegiate level, my approach builds student's classical repertory, tone production and voicing for all registers, fast technique, and accurate intonation. I always use a variety of fundamental exercises alongside pieces that teach what the student is working on.
About Kyle
I don't just teach students how to play an instrument, I teach students important creative techniques for developing musical skills. Making music is a life skill that helps children and adults of all ages realize, develop, and utilize their expressive and creative talents. In my studio, I focus on

Hear From TakeLessons Clarinet Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

I have been taking lessons with Tony since 2009 and I have seen nothing but improvement in the way I play. I saw my biggest improvements when I would audition for the regional band. My score increased each year. I went from 560 my first year to 915 out of 1000 my last. You will not be disappointing when you will take lessons with him. You will continue to grow if you follow his lessons."

I enjoyed weekly lessons for about three years and really reached the point where I was constantly improving my clarinet mastery and getting closer to my performance goals. At one point, I became so enthusiastic, I also began saxophone lessons with Masaru!
I looked froward to meeting him for my weekly lessons and felt he gave more than 100% in patience, encouragement, and musical technique. He has a very warm, giving personality and when we were together, I made great progress and was very motivated to study and practice on my own.
I enthusiastically recommend Masaru Koga to other music students and wish I could be his student again!"

Our daughter is in middle school and is playing in a band with about 20 other clarinets. At the first testing, she was seated in the middle of the pack. When she asked to take music lessons, we looked online and found Mikaela. Within a few lessons, Mikaela was able to find small things that made a huge difference. Now not only is our daughter playing better but has a lot more confidence with the clarinet as well.
Mikaela is very personable and patient. She really seems to care about our daughter and makes the lessons enjoyable. Not sure that we could have found a better instructor for our daughter!"
