I have been playing violin since kindergarten, and I have experiences in teaching beginner students at SUNY Albany campus and I absolutely loved it! Music Performance was one of my majors of my undergraduate degrees, and I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to perform a solo piece, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in my senior year. I am currently enrolled in a Master's program for Intercultural Communication & English language education. Teaching has been one of my long-lasting passions and I am more than happy to work with various levels of violin learners. Hope to hear from you soon!!

I am a professional violinist and violist in the Boston area. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory where I have studied with Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, and Martha Katz. I have performed extensively throughout my life as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player on both the violin and viola in a variety of professional ensembles including substitute viola work with the Borromeo String Quartet. I draw from this performing background to teach my students of all ages and abilities.
I currently act as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola at Merrimack College, where I serve as a primary instrumental teacher to enrolled students. I have also acted as the primary violin teacher for Main Street Music, LLC, in Waltham. Additionally, I run a private studio of 5-10 students as young as 6 and as old as 60. Of these, some never touched an instrument before our first lesson, and some are serious conservatory-bound musicians intending to make a career as a performer.

There is a potential in every person to be truly great at any one thing. All it takes is hard work and honest determination, with determination being the most important. Because where determination comes, hard work follows naturally.
I hope to inspire my students to really love making music and being creative with their instruments. I can give my students all the information in the world and tips on how to improve at violin playing, but in the end it will not matter if the student has no desire to improve. And that is why I love to teach- inspiring students to love what they do!
About Abigail
Abigail Tsai received a Bachelors of Music from the Eastman School of Music, where she was awarded a Performer's Certificate. At Eastman she studied with Professor Oleh Krysa. She is currently pursuing her M.M. in violin performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Ilya Ka

Pyunghwa cared for me as a music student in her instruction and also sought after opportunities that would help me expand my skills as a violinist. With no school orchestra to join, she found opportunities for me to perform with the local youth orchestra that gave me the experience I later built on to lead my school orchestra as a concertmaster.
With her knowledge and experience, Pyunghwa is a wonderful teacher for both the beginner and the advanced student. She is firm but gentle and patient, able to connect the new student to a challenging instrument in an exciting and approachable manner. As for the advanced student, working with a teacher with such vast experience and natural skill is a blessing."

My 5 year old LOVES him. Mr. Lacey communicates well with his students. He uses positive reinforcement, but makes it a point to teach that students take ownership. My grandson has only been taking lessons for a couple of months, and is already playing several songs on the violin. I would totally recommend Mr. Lacey to anyone interested in learning an instrument."
