A conservatory-trained musician offering violin and piano lessons, I am able to teach in Russian, Kazakh, and English. I am certified as a violin/viola teacher at all levels from beginner to advanced/conservatory levels by the Glinka Conservatory in Novosibirsk, Russia, where I received my undergraduate degree.
In the past nine years, I have taught beginning and intermediate students on the piano, and beginners (age 3) to advanced conservatory musicians on violin.
My approach is to respond to the needs of the individual student. With beginners, I initially assess the student’s musical ear and use games and other fun exercises to introduce fundamental elements of music theory. At the same time, I work with the beginner to establish a foundation of good habits

***Introduction*** I believe the most important aspect of teaching music is creating a positive environment where the student feels confident and relaxed. My curriculum is put together from a variety of methods and aspects of music education. I'm a dedicated piano teacher who believes that you ca
I was also fortunate that the time for our classes worked well for me, even though I am learning from overseas.
I look forward to continued lessons.

I've worked with students who came in struggling to find pitch and they've left with powerful voices. I've worked with professionals looking to open a new opportunity and they did. This isn't rocket science, there's no secret formula. But, I do work very hard to help you discover the unique and powerful qualities of your voice. This and proper technique are key.
Ask about combining this with your accompanying instrument.
I've taught both privately and in the classroom (in schools from Pre-K to college, and through workshops), and have been a working musician and teacher for more than 25 years. I have a degree in music from Columbia College Chicago (Summa Cum Laude). My students have included everyone from absolute

BA in Piano Performance and Music Theory/Composition from Appalachian State University
Tin whistle is a wonderful instrument, with rich cultural ties to Ireland. I studied abroad in Ireland to learn Irish music. I've had 2 very adept whistle teachers who imparted great technique and great love for the instrument. With tin whistle lessons, I focus on fingering, breath control, ornaments, style, and phrasing. I teach tunes, and encourage students to play along to recordings or with friends.
I'm a film composer by trade, but I love teaching as well. I love sharing my passion for music with others. I have a BM from Appalachian State University in piano performance and music theory/composition. I also have an MFA in music composition for the screen from Columbia College Chicago. I st

That's ultimately what I value so much about Andrew, he really cares for his students. I would recommend Andrew to anyone. They will not be disappointed!"
I had always wanted to learn to play the piano myself, but thought that because I never learned (and probably never would), I would make sure my son learned how!
My son is not only well on his way to learning to play the piano by by ear, he is also having a blast recording his own music! Randy always emails out a recap of the lesson along with things to work on for the upcoming week. I love these recaps because I can listen to the music they recorded and know what my son should be working on. It's great!
I always remembered hearing about what learning to play an instrument was like when I was younger (probably why I never tried to learn), an old blue hair wapping your hand with a ruler when you did not practice enough.
This is not what it is like at all with Randy. Lessons can be as engaging as you want them to be. Randy has a special talent to know what to focus on every week based on how his student is feeling.
I know this because I have witnessed several lessons where my son has been a real bundle of energy bouncing off the walls and Randy was able to reel him in and make progress for the day!
I have enjoyed watching my son grow as a musician so much , that I started taking lessons from Randy about a year ago. My favorite part about the process is I told Randy up front that I wanted to play November Rain by Guns -n- Roses, (no easy task). He did not tell me that it was an impossible, or that it was a bad idea... He just drew the sheet music and we got after it. It has been awesome learning my favorite song along and at the same time learning how to play the piano by ear.
You will begin to listen to all music differently after spending time with Randy, that is a fact.
I have always been a lover of music, but it goes to the next level when you start to gain an understanding and a feeling of how the music is put together.
I know that Randy is able to look down the road with each student and know how exactly how to teach each individual because everyone responds differently.
Randy really does a terrific job making sure you know that it is not IF you will reach your goals, but WHEN.
I am confident that we will be his students as long as he will have us, and I highly recommend you give him a try! You won't be disappointed!"
What are minor and 7th chords anyway? TakeLessons teacher Brian T. breaks down the music theory behind building these chords... Learning guitar chords is one of the early challenges of learning the guitar. Very often a new student will find themselves presented with a host of fingering patterns that make little sense. "Why this set of frets and not that one?" the student wonders "Why, when I move my E major down a string does it become A minor?" With just a bit of music theory and a willi …
