You will learn how to play and identify notes on the keyboard, read sheet music, learn rhythmic values, play chords, and so much more. The piano is a very diverse instrument. It is a great tool to teach a student about music in general. In addition to learning how to play the piano, you will lean many basic music theory concepts.

I have been helping beginners and other more experienced musicians to learn to play the piano for 23 years. We can start from scratch and advance through five levels of piano methods. I have used various published methods over the years depending upon the experience and age of the student. I emphasize fundamental techniques of piano playing and music reading. A good piano player can eventually play any style he or she would like to focus on. It is never too late, you can begin to learn to play piano today!

I've been teaching piano for 5 years with students ages 4-70. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play short songs, identify the piano keys and begin learning how to read music. Over time, you will be confidently playing with both hands and will pick up pieces more quickly. I specialize in beginner lessons and typically use the Faber Piano Adventures and Alfred books (for adults). I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

We will go over music fundamentals as well as technique for playing piano. There will be homework assignments and it is encouraged to have your own keyboard at home for daily practice.

Students will work on piano technique, based on their level of study. They will learn through the use of exercises (playing scales, arpeggios, and studies/etudes), as well as through the application to real-life repertoire, in the genre of their choice (classical, pop, rock, jazz, etc.)
